Fruit shrubs

In the country

For decorating the backyard you can use a variety of plants. So, in the same garden can grow ornamental grasses, shrubs, trees and even creepers. And if such cultures are correctly chosen and well combined with each other, then the personal plot acquires a particularly attractive appearance. Thus, actinidia, a liana with large leaves and edible fruits, can be a great find for the garden. Such plants are not very capricious, they multiply easily. Today we will clarify which vine is worth growing: actinidia argut or actinidia colomicta, let's talk which one is better and what is the difference between such cultures.

Actinidia came to us from the Far East of Russia, as well as from Asia, they are popular among gardeners, as they are hardy and able to adapt to different environmental conditions. Actinidia argutus and actinidia colomicta are believed to be the most common varieties of such plants. They are often grown for decorative purposes, and they successfully tolerate big frosts.

Such vines are woody, deciduous and perennial. Botanists refer them to the Aktinidiev family. The leaves of these plants are whole, can be thin or leathery. The motley color of the foliage noticeably highlights actinidia in the garden. Stems and shoots of vines are not covered with suckers, so they need to organize supports for successful cultivation.

Actinidia can be excellent plants for decorating various buildings, arbors, walls and fences. They often decorate homestead verandas. Edible fruits can be used to make jam or marmalade, they can also be added to compotes and other tasty dishes. Such fruits can be eaten raw. They are believed to be very useful.

Description of varieties of actinidia argut and colomicta

So, argut refers to dioecious lianas. Botanists claim that it is one of the most powerful cultivated varieties found in the Far East. In length, such a plant can reach thirty meters, there are cases where the diameter of its trunk was equal to twenty centimeters. The leaves of this liana look pointed and ovate, their edges are finely toothed. Leaf length - up to fifteen centimeters.

On the actinidia argut appear white flowers, with a diameter of about two centimeters. They have a strong and pleasant aroma. The flowering period begins in July. On the liana can be formed and single flowers, and collected in wrist inflorescences.

Fruits forming on actinidia argut appear spherical. They are edible and have a mild weakening effect. The weight of one fruit ranges from five to fifteen grams. These fruits are painted in dark green tones, and they ripen around the end of September.

This liana is recognized by botanists especially resistant to severe frosts and severe winters. Such a plant is also dioecious, it can reach ten meters in length, and the diameter of its stem is about twenty millimeters. Leaves of actinidia kolomikta ovate with sharp serrated edges. Their maximum length is about seven centimeters. The veins of the leaves are covered with reddish pubescence, and the petioles are colored in reddish tones. Interestingly, among the male representatives of the plant, the leaf tops become whitened in July, and over time they change color several times from pale pink to bright crimson.

In autumn, the leaves of actinidia kolomikty become especially beautiful - yellow-pink and red-purple.

The floor of the plant can be calculated based on the number and type of flowers that appear.

So female representatives are covered with single flowers with a pleasant aroma and white color.

In male plants, white flowers are collected in brushes consisting of three to five flowers.

This kind of liana also has edible fruits, they usually do not exceed two and a half centimeters in length, have a green color, but they can redden or grow a little in the sun.

Which plant is better to choose for the garden? Actinidia differences

If you want to grow a particularly powerful vine, turn your attention to actinidia argut - it can grow much more than a colomicta. It has larger leaves and larger fruits, a better crop can be harvested from argutas - the size of the fruits is somewhat larger than that of the colomikta, and more fruits can form on one plant. Nevertheless, some gardeners believe that the colomica fruits are more useful because they contain more ascorbic acid.

As for decoration, both argut and colomikta delight their owners with their attractive appearance. Arguta leaves look smooth and green, turning in autumn in rich yellow tones. And the foliage of colomikty changes color several times per season.

Those readers of Health Popular, who live in regions with particularly harsh winters, do not have to choose especially - they should give preference to the actinidia of the colomict as more frost-resistant. Although, it is worth noting that there have been cases of successful wintering of actinidia argut in the conditions of the Moscow region.

What is better for you actinidia? Decide for yourself! Both actinidia colomikta and actinidia argutus can be a wonderful decoration for the garden.

Features Actinidia Arguty

Another name for Arguty is Acute. This liana has a powerful trunk, growing up to 25-30 meters. The stem is stiff. Color is gray-brown. Stalk wraps around any support that occurs in its path. The plant looks unusual, decorative. In the gazebo, which is wrapped with actinidia, even on the hottest day is cool and fresh. Summer resident, who decided to plant in his exotic shrub, should immediately think about support. Without objects for which it would be possible to be hooked, the liana cannot develop normally. It will simply lie on the ground, and curl, forming a circle.

Shrub frost. It can endure harsh winters when the air temperature drops to -30 ... -40 degrees.

The leaves of Argut, just like Kolomikty, change color depending on the month. In the spring they have a dark emerald color. When the plant blooms, and it blooms with white flowers, the leaves also turn white. In the fall, the foliage becomes a yellowish-green color, then a pale lilac. In October, the leaves fall.

Flowering plant begins in early June. The process lasts about 13-18 days. At this time, the garden is filled with a wonderful delicate floral scent. You can catch the notes of tropical fruits, lily of the valley.

It is during flowering that the sex of the plant can be determined. Actinidia Argut as well as Kolomikt and other varieties, dioecious culture. There are female and male instances. In order for the bush to bear fruit, it is necessary to plant different-sex varieties on the plot. You can plant 4-6 women on one male plant. Only then will the pollination take place, and the fruits will begin to grow. In male specimens, flowers are collected in inflorescences. They have many stamens, but no pistil. Female flowers are larger. Almost always grow one by one. They have stamens and pistils.

Another nice feature of Actinidia Spicy is that tasty fruits do not crumble. Even fully ripe berries cling tightly to the branches. The fruits, depending on the variety, are rather large, 2-4 cm each. The approximate weight is 5-7 grams. Harvest can be collected in September. Some varieties in October. The fruit is fragrant. They smell like pineapple, apples, flowers. The taste is reminiscent of a mixture of strawberries, kiwi, gooseberries. The color of the fruit, depending on the variety, is green, light green-pink, purple.

note! Actinidia Argut is considered long-lived. With proper care, it can bear fruit and continue to grow for almost a hundred years.

Actinidia Argut: varieties

This kind of actinidia has several dozen varieties. All of them differ from each other in fruits, a little in appearance, sex. Growing each one is easy. The care is pretty simple. However, this does not mean that after planting you can forget about the plant. In order for the culture to develop well, decorate the site and bear fruit, it needs to be given enough time. Each of the varieties has its own characteristics of the place for planting, the formation of the bush, reproduction, which must be taken into account.

Among the most common varieties of actinidiaBUTThe brackets are as follows:

Many gardeners engaged in the cultivation of this varietal actinidia, claim that its pinkish-maroon fruit is the most delicious of all varieties. They are honey. In the mouth after the berry remains a long fruity aftertaste. The perfect grade for making wine.

A place for Geneva needs to be chosen so that the sun shines there during the day. In this case, the bed should not blow the wind. Like other varieties of culture, Geneva does not like and fears drafts.

Important. The soil should be neutral, drained, fertile.

The landing pit should be 60 to 70 cm. Drainage in the form of pebbles and stones is laid out on the bottom. Next, a layer of fertilized garden land with peat, humus. It is necessary to add ash, fertilizers containing nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium. Do not use drugs containing chlorine, lime. Culture does not like them. From the usual garden land on the laid fertile layer a mound is made. On it the gardener places the roots of the seedling. The root neck should be deepened under the earth for a distance of 1-2 cm. The pit is covered with earth. Well spilled. Bottom circle mulch straw, grass. You can use peat.

The bush must be tied to a support. The formation of the bush is due to the removal of broken, frail, old branches and shoots that thicken the crown. All varieties of Actinidia Arguty fruiting goes on short branches. Therefore, it is necessary to cut the twigs rather shortly, do not forget about pinching. Creepers do not need to be replaced during life. Unlike the actinidia of Kolomikty, they are constantly bearing fruit in Arguty.

This is a self-fertile variety. However, despite the efforts of breeders, the crop yields the best harvest only if the male variety grows on the site. The first crop is harvested within one or two years after being placed on a permanent place.

Planting is similar to the variety Geneva. The place also needs a sunny, without strong winds. Can be grown on neutral, slightly acid soils. The earth should be loose. Do not land in places where groundwater accumulates.

Issey - one of the most miniature actinidia. It is recommended to plant on small areas. The culture of this variety requires timely watering.

Interesting. The formation of the bush is exactly the same as in other varieties of Arguty. Removed all frail, broken, old branches. Shrub thoroughly thinned. The branches are shortened. Pruning is carried out in the fall a few weeks before cold weather sets in. A shrub at this time should not have a single leaf.

Reproduction is standard. You can plant a seed, you can use cuttings, layering. The easiest way to propagate - cuttings. They are taken from mixed shoots. Cuttings are cut from the apical part. Each stick should have 2-4 live kidneys. Procurement of cuttings takes place in June, July. Sticks are planted in a windless place, where the shadow. You can define them in a greenhouse. No cuttings are allowed under the scorching sun. Suitable soil is peat mixed with sand. A month later, the cuttings should take root. A month later there will be branches. Characteristic varieties Issey reports the rapid growth of the plant.

The plant needs pollinators. Berries ripen in October. They are very large. The weight of one fruit is about 20-30 grams. The first crop is harvested after 3-5 years after planting. Feature of the variety in the short period of flowering. Flowers on the actinidia of Argut Jumbo can be observed only a week. Fruits have high keeping quality and transportability.

On a note. Planting, the formation of the bush similar to other species. Planting material in the form of a seedling is transferred to a permanent place only when it turns 2-3 years old. Before being placed in an earthen pit, one cannot take out roots from a shelter. The roots are very gentle. Any damage to the roots can disrupt growth.

Jumbo also needs drainage. The variety does not tolerate acidic, alkaline soils. Reproduction is allowed as cuttings, layering, seed. If the method is chosen by root layers, then the adult strong shoot is bent to the surface of the earth. It is fixed at the ground. Next, put on the stem soil mixture. A year later, the new plant is separated from the parent.

Berries varieties have a greenish-purple color. They have no flavor, but a wonderful sweet taste. The variety is planted on loose, drainage, non-acidic soils. Peat, humus, and deciduous humus are used for fertilizers.

Kens Red has ripened in the last decade of September. Until that time, it should be watered, but not pereuvlazhnyat. Fruits are characterized by keeping quality. Well transported. Therefore, the variety can be seen on industrial plantings.

The fruits of actinidia kokuwa argut resemble small kiwi. But you can eat them straight with juicy soft skin. They do not spoil for a long time. Have a sweet taste with a spicy sour note. You can feel the lemon aftertaste. Positioned as self-fertile. But to get a good harvest you need to plant a pollinator near.

For cultivar, good soil drainage should be performed. He does not tolerate stagnation or souring.

In this variety, careful pruning is necessary. The bush is formed in such a way that the crown is not thickened. The variety needs air. Once all the fruits have been removed and the leaves have fallen, the gardener should begin pruning. In central Russia, the procedure is carried out in October. Secateurs remove old branches, shoots with injuries, healthy branches are significantly shortened.

The Kokuwa variety needs extra cover before winter. Its frost resistance is only -22 degrees.

Additional Information. Kiwis are the fruits of the world famous actinidia, which grows in hot countries. Name of the species - Chinese actinidia.

Purple Garden

This variety can be distinguished by the color of the fruit. They have a purple color. Used together with the peel. The peel is thin, moderately sour. The color of the pulp and the rind is the same. The flesh is brighter, violet-scarlet. It has excellent taste characteristics. The berries are large, sweet. Grow up to 4 centimeters in length.

Note. The first harvest ripens 3-4 years after planting.

The culture pit should be 60 cm deep and 60 cm wide. At the bottom of the stones are placed, expanded clay. For drainage - soil mixture. You need to cook it from peat, garden soil with sand, humus, fertilizers. After the soil in the form of a mound is poured on the soil mixture. On it place the roots of actinidia. Everything is covered with earth, it is well spilled and mulched with hay.

Fruits are picked in early October. Before winter, the plant is removed from the support and covered with peat, hay or foil.

Reproduction is allowed by layering, cuttings, seeds. The formation of the bush is normal.

The variety is self-fertile, high-yielding. Often grown on an industrial scale. Fruits are juicy, superficially resemble very small elongated green apples. In the context of their can be taken for kiwi seedless.

Important. You can not land in a place where the wind blows, a little light and cold. Does not tolerate acidification of the soil. It should have drainage. Landing often takes place on an elevation to eliminate the accumulation of groundwater.

A distinctive feature of the variety is that there are no seeds in the berries of Viti kiwi. Therefore, the variety multiplies only layering, cuttings. The cuttings planted in the greenhouse must be covered for the winter so that they do not freeze.

Particular attention to the care of the culture should be given timely watering.

You can plant on the site, as a male variety Wakey, and female. Berries have a sweet taste with sourness. The color is lime. In places where sunlight falls, reddish spots are formed on the fruit. Wake is ideal for decorating the site. In addition, the variety is abundant. Up to 10 kg of selected berries are harvested from the bush. Landing takes place according to traditional technology. The bush grows heavily. Every autumn requires careful pruning and pinching of the twigs.

Reproduction by seeds and vegetatively is allowed. Seeds of variety for quite a long time can be stored in the refrigerator. Before planting, they are cleaned in the cellar, where they are stratified. They should be removed to the cellar in December. At an air temperature of about + 3 ... + 5 degrees Celsius, the seeds will lie for 80-90 days. In March, they are placed in a container with loose, light soil and removed in heat. For example, left in the living room, where about +25 degrees Celsius. Do not place a container with the ground in the sun. In mid-May, the container is transferred to fresh air. It is better to remove them in a shaded place. Shoots by July-August should become stronger. At this time they can be planted in a greenhouse. For the winter they cover with foliage, hay.

Important! Seed propagation has several significant drawbacks. First, the method is too long, requiring painstaking work with seed material.

Description of berries contains information about a rich taste, reminiscent of a sweet gooseberry and kiwi. Fruits are two-colored. From the side where the sun does not fall - light green. On the sunny side - red-pinkish.

The soil in the garden, where actinidia will grow, is selected neutral, loose, with a sufficient amount of peat, sand. Drainage, which fall asleep at the bottom of the landing pit, should not consist of building rubble. This product contains lime, and it affects the acidity of the soil, significantly reducing it.

It is worth paying attention to the formation of crown liana. Pineapple shrub needs to be pruned more carefully than many others. If you allow the crown to thicken, you can lose the harvest. Pruning is recommended in late autumn. Pineapple vine can be strongly drawn out, therefore it is necessary to plant it away from other varieties. It is better if it will have neighbors that are at a distance of 2 meters.

Pros and cons varieties

The advantages of varieties of the form:

  1. Frost resistance. Almost all the varieties listed are cold-resistant. Arguta Geneva transfers without additional shelter of winter when the temperature drops to -30 ... -35 degrees. Jumbo, Pineapple, Whips,
  2. High yield gives Wiki, Viti kiwi. 10 kg of berries are removed from the bush. Normal varieties give 5-7 kg,
  3. Excellent taste of the fruit. Varieties Arguty different rich sweetish taste with a pleasant sourness. Considered the sweetest variety of Geneva. According to reviews, its fruits have honey taste, melt in the mouth. Berries of Kokuva, Purple Garden varieties have very pleasant taste characteristics. They can be consumed directly with soft skin,
  4. Very beautiful view of the shrub. Varieties Kolomikty Ostroi are distinguished by a powerful crown, strong stem. The leaves change color, and the berries can be seen in many different shades. For example, in Purple Garden they are maroon-pink, and in Pineapple they are light green,
  5. Longevity and transportability. Korts Red, Jumbo varieties at a temperature of 0 ... + 3 degrees can be stored for several months,
  6. Berries do not fall. Unlike the Kolomikty actinidia varieties, the Arguty varieties can boast a long stay on the branches even after ripening.

Disadvantages varieties of the form:

  1. Additional required shelter before winter. It needs a variety Kokuva. Its frost resistance is only -22 degrees,
  2. Required timely watering. At the same time it is impossible to allow overmoistening of the soil. This is especially characteristic of the varieties Issey, Viti Kiwi,
  3. All varieties require special arrangement of the landing pit. In its lower part should be drainage. It is made of stones. Do not use materials containing lime, such as building rubble,
  4. Before landing you need prepare the ground. Argut varieties will not grow in acidic or alkaline soils. They need fertile neutral lands.

Actinidia Argut is a decorative and useful inhabitant of the garden. It has a massive crown, which can entwine any obstacle, decorating buildings. If you know the main points in the cultivation, reproduction, then plant any of the varieties will be able as an experienced gardener, and novice.

It is an ornamental and fruit liana, originally from the forests of the Far East, reaching a height of 7 m. The shoots are red-brown, the leaves are thin, from the second half of the growing season they often whiten in whole or in part, sharply serrated along the edge. The brightest decorative color appears in good light.

The flowers are white, fragrant, 1-2 cm in diameter. It blooms in May – June. Fruits ripen in August – September. Fruits are dark green with dark stripes, oblong-elliptical, edible, fragrant. Actinidia is a dioecious plant (that is, either female or male flowers form on the same plant). The floor of the plant does not change throughout life, therefore, to obtain crops in the garden, you must have at least one male and one female plant. Sustained fruiting begins in the fifth year.

Promising varieties of actinidia kolomikta: 'Pineapple Michurin', 'Fragrant', 'VIR-1', 'Strawberry', 'Zest', 'Caramel', 'Queen of the Garden', 'Marmeladka', 'Monetka', 'Nakhodka', ' Festive, Sweetheart, September and others.

‘Adam’ is the male form, which is most often used as a pollinator for fruit varieties. The leaves have a white-green color, later a pale green-pink.

‘Dr. Shimanovsky’ (‘Dr. Szymanowski’) is a self-fruited variety, up to 3-4 m high. The leaves are greenish-white-pink. The fruits ripen in August and immediately fall down. The grade begins to fructify for 4-5 year.

Actinidia is a dioecious plant, therefore there should be male and female specimens in plantations.

It is possible to distinguish a male specimen from a female one only during flowering.

Male actinidia

Flower male plants

Actinidia male: flowers collected in 3 pieces in the inflorescence, poluschitok.

In the center - a barely noticeable reduced ovary, surrounded by numerous (up to 80 pieces in a flower) stamens.

Female actinidia

Female plant flower

Actinidia female: single flowers.

In the center has a large white upper ovary with a sedentary radius stigma, surrounded by a few stamens on short filaments.

The anthers of female plants contain sterile pollen (more than 95%), so they lack self-pollination. Single self-fertile and therefore culturally valuable forms were found in actinidia colomics and argut. To get the fruit, one male is planted on 10 female plants. The maximum yield of 2-5 kg (rarely up to 12 kg) per liana can be obtained for 10-12 years after planting. High productivity lasts a long time.

The main stem of an adult specimen in actinidia colomicta and polygamous has a base thickness of 2 cm, in actinidia arguty - up to 20 cm. The root system of actinidia is densely branched, holds the soil well. The bulk of the roots develops in the horizontal direction and is located within a radius of 60–80 cm from the center of the plant at a depth of up to 40 cm from the surface.

For the landing of the actinidia, the pits dig approximately 50 × 50 x 70 cm. The distance between the pits for the actinidia of the colomict is 2 m, and for the actinidia the argut is 4 m. At the bottom of the landing pit it is necessary to lay a drainage layer. The pit is filled with a fertile soil mixture of equal parts of humus, sand and clay. When planting requires abundant watering and mulching pristvolnyh circles.

Spring pruning is undesirable, because it causes "crying" and desiccation of the plant. Actinidia is cut in the fall after leaf fall. Cut branches, thickening crown. Winter damage, if any, is removed in late May - early June, during the period of regrowth of shoots. At this time, the border between living tissue and dead skin is clearly visible.

The rejuvenating pruning of actinidia starts at 7-10 years old. Replace one old branch with a young vegetative shoot.

  • grows slowly on soils after liming, eventually dies,
  • tolerates a low content of nitrogen and phosphorus in the soil, but grows better with increased potassium content (it reacts negatively to potassium chloride), is responsive to the introduction of wood ash, humus and compost
  • critical temperature -50 ° C
  • flowers are damaged at a temperature of -2-3 ° C
  • Pineapple Michurina, Fragrant, Waffle, Grape, VIR-1, VIR-39, Strawberry, Golden Ring, Abundant, Graceful, Clara Zetkin, Queen of the Garden, Large-fruited, Lakomka, Leningrad Large-fruited, Leningrad Late, Maritza, Marmeladka, Matte, Mom, Maritsa, Lentenradskaya Leningradskaya, Leningradskaya Late, Maritza, Marmeladka, Matovaya, Mom, Momnitsa Coin, Hope, Folk, Nakhodka, Stranger, Garden Nymph, Pavlovskaya, Parkovaya, Flat, Festive, Adorable, Homestead, Early Dawn, Robinson, Russian, Sakhalin-6, September, Sweetie, Soroka, University, Fantasy Gardens,
  • Actinidia Colomikta - dioecious plant, for the successful tying of berries the minimum required number of female plants - 5, male - 2,
  • variety Commander - only male plants, used as a pollinator

Actinidia kolomikta - it is a vine 7-8 m high, trunk diameter 3-4 cm, sometimes up to 10 cm. The plants, though light-requiring, but grow better and bear fruit in a light shade. Its juicy berries contain a high amount of vitamin C, ascorbic acid, have a strong aroma of pineapple or apple. The ripening of the fruit is stretched, in the Moscow region ripening begins in early August or later, depending on the variety. When ripe, the fruits are showered, but the collected unripe fruits, together with ripe, ripen within 2-3 days, without loss of taste.

In the half-shaded mixed and coniferous forests of the Far East (Amur region, Khabarovsk Territory, the south of Primorsky Krai, the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin). Creepers (shoots) of actinidia twine around trees and shrubs, bringing the leaves and fruits to the light. It is found sporadically and in small groups on clarified places, clearings, old burns, glades, light forest, windfalls, rocks, along the edges of stony placers, on the slopes of ravines and streams with a sufficient amount of humus and on well-drained soils.

Of the 36 species growing in the world, five have taken root in the middle lane. Four types of actinidia are recommended for cultivation in the garden: kolomikta, or “Raisin”, acute argut, or “Kishmish”, polygamous “Perchik”, or “Bitter kishmish”, Giraldi. However, the last three species in the middle lane are less winter-hardy. The flower buds of actinidia polygamous and Giraldi almost annually freeze, the branches die to the level of snow cover. The most winter-hardy in the middle lane of the actinidia kolomikta and its varieties, actinidia arguta in other winters without shelter freezes.

The content of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in actinidia is up to 1500 mg%. With the technical processing of fruits, it is practically not destroyed, which significantly increases the value of the culture. In this connection, the fruits of actinidia and the products of their processing can be attributed to natural natural concentrates of vitamin C. The presence of the remaining substances is: vitamin P — 30 mg%, carotene — 0.3 mg%, sugars — 15%, organic acids — 3%, dry substances - 17%, there are tannins and dyes.

Taste and beneficial properties of actinidia higher than the northern grapes. Fruits in dried form resemble raisins. It is advisable to use them as a dietary, prophylactic and therapeutic agent for scurvy, bleeding diseases, tuberculosis and whooping cough. Recommended after infectious diseases, industrial and domestic intoxications, hepatitis, as well as for physical and mental overstrain, sluggish digestion and constipation. With diabetes and obesity should not be consumed in large quantities. Fruits consume fresh, prepare from them juices, kissels, compotes, jams, jams, marmalade, jelly, candy fillings, etc.

Liana of average power in favorable conditions on the supports rises to 15m, in unfavorable conditions it grows with a bush up to 1.8 m in height (diameter is about 5 cm). The bark peels off, but does not exfoliate with long ribbons, like actinidia argut. Plants are weaker than arguty. The leaves are opaque and slightly pubescent along the veins on both sides, the arguts are slightly smaller in size, and more tender, slightly wrinkled, with a slightly noticeable red-bronze tint. In June, especially in male plants, sometimes variegation appears, some of the leaves acquire a purple color, sharply delimited from the green white border. Flowering earlier and compressed than arguty. Fruits, unlike arguts, ripen earlier and at the same time fall.

Actinidia pineapple - argut or colomicta?

Recommended for introduction into culture throughout the European part of the territory of the former USSR.

Biological features of actinidia argut. Large creeper climbing up to 25m in trees, diameter up to 15 cm. Bark flakes longitudinal plates. The leaves are whole with a heart-shaped base, dense, shiny, slightly leathery, with a dark green bright color, bare.

Litiness does not occur. Flowering begins a little later than Kolomikty, and more stretched. This allows you to sometimes save late blooming flowers from late spring frosts. Fruits ripen friendly and not showered. Harvest is higher than colomikty. Less hardy than colomikta. It is possible to introduce into culture, but it is necessary to cover for the winter.

Biological features of polygamous actinidia. The height of the vine reaches 6m, diameter - 2cm. The vegetation comes a week later than argut. The leaves are dull green. Flowers single and bisexual. Fruits ripen late, do not fall off, when ripe, acquire a light orange color, taste bitter and burning, become edible after the onset of frost. In the middle lane weakly resistant.

The group of varieties of actinidia "kiwi" - derived from New Zealand from Chinese actinidia, characterized by large pubescent fruits weighing 80-150g, cultivated in subtropical areas, in the middle lane - in greenhouses.

What types of actinidia can still be used. Actinidia purple has been introduced in Ukraine, but like Chinese actinidia, it is demanding for heat. As a result of successful interspecific hybridization (actinidia argut and actinidia purpurea), highly productive hybrids undergoing state trials were obtained: September, Purple garden, Kiev large-fruited, Figured, Kiev hybrid. Fruit weight 8-25g, 8-19% sugar content, vitamin C 100-150 mg%, harvest from a bush 10-25kg. Ripe fruits do not fall off.

The structure of the flowers of actinidia. Female flowers are located mostly singly, their pistils are well developed and stamens are poorly developed. Ovary is upper, large, ends with a bunch of whitish pistils. Male flowers of two or three (sometimes more) are collected in the inflorescence of a half-shield with numerous small stamens with yellow anthers at Kolomikty and black at Argut.

The blooming flowers of actinidia kolomikta with five white petals are saucer-shaped. Diameter - up to 1.5 cm. They are same-sex two types: female - with the ovary, pistils and stamens with sterile pollen and male - well-developed stamens. In actinidia argut, there are cup-shaped flowers with a diameter of 2–3 cm; Flowers pistillate and staminate. Pollinated by insects.

Is there actinidia with bisexual flowers? Yes. In actinidia and polygamous Kolomikty, along with same-sex there are plants with bisexual flowers. But they are unproductive, self-fertile, pollen is characterized by reduced viability. Such actinidia risky plant on the site without additional purely male plants.

What is the difference between the fruits of actinidia of different types? The fruits of the actinidia colomicta are about 2 cm long and 1 cm wide, ovate-elongated, often compressed on both sides. The mass of an ordinary fruit is 2.5g, large-fruited —5g. As ripening fruits quickly fall off, they are usually harvested unripe. Then placed in a well ventilated area, where they ripen for several days. The fruits of actinidia argut vary greatly in size and weight: length reaches 1.5-3 cm, width 1.2-2.7 cm, weight - 1.5-10g. The shape varies from spherical to cylindrical, the tip is blunt or sharp. Ripe fruits of dark green color with a pleasant aroma, juicy flesh, sugary-sweet or sour-sweet taste.

Actinidia Variety Nakhodka with female flowers, that is, it forms fruits that require pollination by male flowers to form. This requires an actinidia plant with male flowers. You can choose and order other varieties of actinidia in the men's catalog for pollination of the Actinidia Nakhodka.

Plant characteristic

Actinidia is a variety of woody, deciduous and perennial vines belonging to the Aktinidievy family. She leaves whole, there are both thin and leathery and are recognized worldwide for their decorative qualities. Possessing a variegated color, they stand out noticeably against the background of other plants of a temperate climate. There are no suckers on the stems and shoots of actinidia, and therefore the plant needs support for fast, harmonious growth and development.

The buds themselves are in the scarring of the leaf, and in its bosom there are flowers, which can be either single or in groups of 3 pieces. Венчик в большинстве случаев белого цвета, но известны также и виды растений, в которых он бывает оранжевого или золотисто-желтого оттенка. За исключением некоторых видов, цветки актинидии не издают запаха.

Due to its properties, actinidia are ideal for decorating arbors, house wall fences and home verandas. The fruits of the plant are actively used for making jams, marmalade, stewed fruit and other delicious dishes, they are also consumed fresh after ripening. It is proved that the fruits of plants contain more vitamins and nutrients than black currants. Dried and dried fruits of actinidia, in taste and appearance are similar to raisins.

Description varieties argut and kolomikta.

Actinidia argut is a dioecious liana, one of the most powerful cultural species found in the Far East. The height of this species can reach about 30 meters, and the diameter of the trunk is up to 20 cm. The leaves are pointed and ovate, finely toothed along the edges, reaching 15 cm in length.

The flowers of the plant are most often white, they can be about 2 cm in diameter and exude a rather strong and pleasant smell. Flowering begins in June. There are both single and collected in racemes inflorescences. The shape of the fruit is spherical, they are edible and have a slight laxative property, the color of the fruit is dark green. Fruit ripening occurs at the end of September.

Actinidia colomicta is recognized by the liana as the most resistant to severe winters, it can be up to 10 m high. The trunk is about 20 mm in diameter. Sheet length may be at least about 7cm. They have an ovoid shape, sharp-edged edges, reddish pubescence passes through the veins, and the petioles usually have a reddish tint. The peculiarity of the male representatives of the plant is that the tops of their colorful leaves in July turn white, and later change the shade several times from pale pink to bright crimson.

Autumn for the leaflets of Actinidia Kolomikty is marked by the fact that their coloring acquires beautiful yellow-pink and red-purple hues. Since the plant is classified as a dioecious species, its sex can be determined by the number and type of flowers. In females they are solitary, have a pleasant aroma and white coloring. In males, floral brushes can consist of 3 to 5 flowers. In this type of actinidia, the fruits are also edible, they are about 2.5 cm in length, green in color, but may become reddish or bronze in the sun.

What to choose.

Choosing from two varieties more suitable for your garden, you need to take into account the features of both. Each type has its own advantages and therefore the choice should be made on the basis of what qualities will be more in demand in a particular area. For example, choosing a variety in order to get tasty fruits is better to pay attention to Kolomikta, because its fruits are more enriched with vitamin C, and therefore more useful. However, Argut has a higher yield.

If you still choose actinidia for decorative qualities, then actinidia arguta will look especially good in the autumn, when its smooth leaves become yellow. In Kolomikty, the leaves are very beautiful in spring, since a pinkish tint is added to the white color, and the leaves themselves are distinguished by their roughness. Another factor can be distinguished by greater frost resistance of actinidia colomicas than arguty, which, undoubtedly, is a topical issue in regions with more severe winters.

Liana actinidia

Actinidia colomicta belongs to the actinidian family. Both East Asia and Russia, in particular, the Far Eastern forests, are her homeland.

Genus actinidia (in Latin - Actinidia Lindl.) belongs to the genus Actinidians (in Latin - Actinidiaceae Van Tieghem), includes 36-40 species. The name of the family was chosen in connection with star-shaped pillars of the ovary. In the original, “actis” means “star.” According to the second version, the name was chosen from the Greek activiziov, which is also not far from the “star” and is translated as “ray of light”.

The actinidia argutan plant grows well in mixed fir-broadleaf and cedar-broadleaf forests, and also in alders and birch forests, in thickets of bamboo and shrubs, along the banks of rivers and streams, along the slopes of the northern mountains, rising to a height of almost a kilometer above seas.

Actinidia Colomikta likes to grow in certain groups of 5-10 lianas. Prefers thoroughly drained, stony, with a high degree of moistureto have access to groundwater. On sandy soils, this plant is a low-growing shrub, which is up to 50 cm in height, with small independent stems.

The described Far Eastern liana arrived to us not so long ago, and for its taste, one to one like a “kiwi”, our gardeners liked. Only a certain complexity of its cultivation confuses most of them, and in some cases compels them to dismiss any cultivation enterprises. However, having some knowledge of the basics of cultivation, it is quite possible to breed it successfully in our gardens and enjoy the staggering fruits of actinidia creepers that diversify the everyday diet.

In nature, the largest species difference of actinidia is found in the Himalayas, Southeast Asia. In our country, actinidia grows in natural conditions on the Far Eastern lands, mainly in thinned forests, common to the mark of 1300 m above sea level. Actinidia is also common in Sakhalin. and the coastal region, in the Kuriles. For an acceptable growth and development actinidia require support. In the forests in its role are trees, on the trunks of which they climb to a considerable height, grow extensively, bloom and bear fruit.

Actinidia argut is a climbing liana, which sometimes climbs trees to a height of about 10 m, and in open areas it is a small climbing bush. The stem and branches are slightly pubescent and smooth, about 2-3 cm thick, their color is reddish-brown. The root system is fibrous, they do not seriously go inside the ground, but they are able to spread up to 1.5–2 meters along the radius.

The actinidia leaves are ovate, alternate, crimson-green in color, 7–16 cm long. The processes are brown-black, or almost red. Interestingly, actinidia blooms: the flowers are white or slightly pink, with a delicate and pleasant smell, appear on the shoots of the current year. The plant is dioecious. Female flowers single, male gathered in inflorescences of 2 or 3. It blooms in late June - early July. When fruiting appears a berry with a huge number of seeds, round or tubular shape.

Fruit weight 5-13 g, brown or green. Berries ripen in the first month of autumn. Of course, the fruits occur exclusively on female plantations. A mature vine at the age of 10-11 brings up to 5 kg of berries. Seeds are small, brown-black or yellow, placed in seed boxes in the middle of the berry. The weight of a whole thousand pieces is from 0.7 to 1.0 grams. (one berry contains more than 100 grains, and in 1 kg up to 700 thousand seeds). The seeds give the fruit an original nutty flavor. Seed germination remains throughout the year.

Such features are also characteristic:

  1. The plant freely tolerates low temperatures. Especially suitable actinidia acute for central Russia.
  2. Actinidia of argut and colomicta is also grown in private gardens. The fruits of the first one are almost twice as large and almost do not fall when ripe, and its shrubs are more productive.
  3. The fruiting period of the actinidia colomica begins at 3 or 4 years after planting in the soil, argut - at 5, sometimes 6 years. However, the first bloom it resets from time to time.
  4. Fruits of colomikty still hang on the plant for 5–7 days, and then fall off. For this reason, the berries should be eaten timely and carried out quickly.
  5. When the first scree occurs, you need to collect all the berries and scatter them on a tray, where it ripens very quickly.
  6. Fruits arguty hang on the vine is quite strong and longer.
  7. The taste of the fruit resembles the taste of kiwi, only softer.

Varieties and varieties of actinidia

From the whole species diversity in the format of the main berry culture, the following species and varieties of actinidia became widespread:

  1. A. Argut
  2. A. Kolomikta,
  3. A. polygamy
  4. A. Giralda
  5. A.purpurna,
  6. A. Chinese (aka delicacy) is a popular type of kiwi.

Consider the description of actinidia in summary, to build a first impression.

Description of species

In Russia, grown safely the main four species, and the remaining two — A. purpurea and A. Chinese, are able to grow in Russia only in the southern, subtropical climate zone. A. Kolomikta has become the most cold-resistant, and therefore the most common in the middle zone of our country. Description of the variety provides an opportunity to carefully study the crop and make the right choice of seeds or seedlings.

Kolomikta is a dioecious plant, in other words, it is present as male samples of this plant, and female. It is possible to distinguish them only when they enter the fruiting phase, during the flowering period. Female flowers - bells of white color, not too large, placed 6–7 cm across the entire length of the vine. Male are the same, with the only difference that they bloom in a group, 3-15 at a time on one bunch. Without masculine female lianas, of course, will be fruitless, and you will not take any crop from them.

The period of flowering of actinidia colomicta can last up to 15-20 days and is accompanied by a strong fragrance. After completion of flowering, edible, extremely fragrant, greenhouse-like fruits form on the vine. They actinidia Kolomikty tubular shape, up to 1.8 cm in length, dark green, with dark enfilade stripes.

Kolomikta has a very strange feature: it creates atsiezan pigment, moreover, unpredictable, at any moment of summer. For example, red-painted processes of peonies, tulips that have just appeared, the first processes of roses turn red only in spring. Actinidia argut also has the ability to highlight its leaves in different colors at any time during the summer. She can become pale with the tips, do not worry - this is not a shortage of food, not a disease, but simply its characteristic feature. In addition, she may have silver stripes in the center of the sheet - also a distinctive feature of this vine. Such a variety of colors makes the vine very festive, and that is why it is called variegated vine.

Actinidia kolomikta very cold-resistant. She came to us from the Far Eastern lands and can withstand –40 degrees. However, there is another danger: in springtime, when the air temperature is only –3 ... –6 degrees, all the young shoots die, and if they die, flower buds also die. Consequently, you will not earn the harvest.

In the spring they must be protected from spring frosts by throwing cover on them. But the vine is drawn up to 4–5 m in length, and how do you plan to cover such a plant? There is a solution, there is only one way - to drive a stake and a vine to start up around a given stake. She will twist and form a funny bush. You will have a green fountain.

Actinidia argutus and its second species of colomicta is a taiga plant, several varieties of which grow in the Ussuri taiga in the far eastern territory of our state. There is a variety of Kishmish of the Ussurian variety A. large, whose shoots are capable of reaching 15–30 meters and produce a crop of up to 20 kilograms.

Now there is also Manchurian actinidia, it is also called Ussuri gooseberry. The fragrance of its flowers is similar to the smell of lily of the valley, and its fruits are more appetizing than other actinides. They are similar to gooseberry fruits with a smooth, thin, translucent skin.

Under natural conditions, the actinidia of the argut species grows, in which the fruits are as fluffy as those of kiwi and have the same taste, but much smaller ones. Blossoming usually begins in early June.for this reason, the ovaries are rarely damaged by recurrent frosts, and the mature vine will bear fruit systematically and abundantly.

Berries in actinidia argut large, one-dimensional, depending on the variety, monotonously green, purple or with a blush. Their outline can also vary: from ovate-oblong to brightly formulated pear-shaped, just like in the figurine variety.

Actinidia argut or colomicta: which is better

Arguta is inferior to colomikte in decoration, but in spite of this it seriously surpasses it in the output component of commercial products in the form of fairly large, weighing 12–19 g, fruits of oblong shape, sugar and having a delicate pineapple flavor. If fruit harvesting from the same actinidia colomict creeper reaches an average of 3 kilograms, then in argutus this indicator is 40–50 kg and more! Give an answer to the questionwhich is more preferable: actinidia specifically argut or nevertheless colomicta, is obliged to each gardener independently.

The liana arguty has lived for 70–100 years and is characterized by a rapid increase, strength, and endurance, and its stem at the base is able to reach the size of the trunk of an ordinary fruit plant - 8–20 cm! The leaves of the actinidia argut are faceless-ovate, up to 15 centimeters in length, very dense, without a cannon, dark green on the obverse side, in autumn time they turn into lemon and light yellow colors.

Unfortunately, both kiwi and argut are heat-loving plants, and in our state they can grow exclusively in the southern regions.

How to distinguish a male plant from a female

Despite the fact that today there are also self-bearing varieties of actinidia, as a rule, in order to wait for the harvest, it is necessary to plant both male and female samples at the same time, since the described liana is dual, as well as, for example, the familiar sea buckthorn.

  1. One male copy is allowed to plant up to 10 women.
  2. In nurseries, male Acinidian cultures tend to be planted on the sides of the trellis; in private households, one male plant can be kept for everything that grows in neighboring areas - with the only stipulation that tall buildings will not impede the transfer of pollen.
  3. How to distinguish a male plant from a female, is known to experienced gardeners: you must wait for the flowering period and carefully consider the buds.

Vitamin C in actinidia berries more than in lemon. According to the concentration of ascorbic acid This plant is second only to wild rose. One bush is able to provide ascorbine a family of 3-4 people for a whole year. In fruits, except for vitamin C, there are a lot of organic acids, tanning sugars and other substances healing for the body.

Description and Value

Actinidia is a wonderful plant in all respects. It is an excellent garden decoration thanks to its ornamental leaves and fruits.

In addition, it can be used for vertical gardening of arbors, fences, walls of country houses.

A useful plant should be useful in everything: actinidia generously gives its owners the most delicious and healthy fruits.

Appearance of creepers

The natural habitat of actinidia is Japan, north of China, the Russian Far East. You can meet this beauty in the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. Actinidia arguta, which means “acute” in Latin, is one of the species in the genus Aktinidium. The plant lives and bears fruit 70−90 years. The first fruits appear in the 4−5 year of planting the seedling at a permanent place. Actinidia argut is a deciduous vine that is widely used in landscape design and for food purposes. Lignified stem can reach 30 meters in length and only 20 cm in diameter.

The stalk curls very much, but has no fixtures. In this situation, the vine needs a mandatory support: it can be a variety of arches, trellis. Arguta leaves have a jagged edge of the plate, a pointed tip and reach sizes of 12x5 cm. Their color changes several times during the season. Releasing in the spring, the leaves have a rich green color, which is almost discolored during the flowering vine. But in the fall you can admire all the nuances of color transitions from lemon to dark burgundy.

Pollination and fruiting

Actinidia is a dioecious plant. To ensure fruiting, two vines should be planted next to each other: female and male. You can distinguish them during flowering. In females, single flowers, less often collected in small inflorescences of three. The flowers have a pronounced pistil. The male plant is distinguished by small flowers gathered in umbrella inflorescences, in which only stamens with black anthers can be found.

The flowers most often have a bright color of the corolla, with the exception of several species with golden-yellow and orange inflorescences. Some during flowering exude a unique scent that resembles the smell of lily of the valley, but most have no smell. In place of female flowers, fruits of various colors are formed - from green to red and burgundy.

With one liana can collect up to 15−20 kg. The berries are similar in shape to kiwi, and in size - to a very large gooseberry. You can start collecting fruits at the end of September. They have a tender flesh, a pleasant sourish-sweet taste and are very fragrant. The berries are well kept on the stalks, therefore the fruiting stretches for 2–3 weeks.

Чаще в связи с запахом и вкусом актинидии вспоминают ананас, иногда яблоки, бананы или абрикосы.

Fruit use

  • Cardiac activity is regulated by phytoncides and glycosides contained in fruits.
  • In case of radiation injuries, it is useful to use an extract from the berries, which contributes to the removal of radionuclides from the body and the absorption of isotopes into the blood.
  • The fruit contains a specific substance actinidin, which works as an enzyme, promoting better digestion of protein foods.
  • As prevention and treatment, traditional medicine recommends the fruits of actinidia for bleeding, stomatitis, diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract, including tuberculosis. They have a beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal function, especially for constipation.
  • Use the fruit can be raw and after any processing and drying. It is remarkable that after cooking the vitamin C contained in them is preserved.

Varieties and agricultural technology

In many countries, breeders are working to create new adapted varieties of vines. In the Soviet Union, work began with it before World War II. The great Michurin highly appreciated the nutritional value of the fruit of the vines and predicted actinidia a great future.

Actinidia breeding

The climatic conditions of Russia are very diverse, which is associated with a huge length of territory. The varieties of Russian breeding, patented in recent decades, are able to withstand the harsh winters and produce abundant and stable yields. Some foreign varieties of actinidia are popular in our country:

  1. Geneva. American variety that prefers sunny open areas. Differs in high frost resistance: transfers a cold to-30 ⁰ With, but is afraid of spring return colds. The first ovaries appear on four-year lianas. The ripened fruits in the form of small kegs have a red color and a stunning taste bouquet: sour with honey flavor. It is advisable not to delay the harvest, as this variety is characterized by a short period of fruiting: the berries just crumble.
  2. Issey. Japanese masters conducted a selection to create a self-pollinating variety, and they did it. Fruits, sweet to taste, ripen in late September. This kind of argutu tolerates frost well in winter, but it is in panic afraid of drying out of the soil or stagnation of groundwater. The undoubted advantage of the Issey variety is the compactness of the liana (does not exceed 3 m) and the early onset of fruiting: the first ovaries can be found already in the year of planting.
  3. Jumbo Frost-resistant Italian is distinguished by elongated yellowish-green fruits and their good freshness. The variety is late ripening: the first fruits will appear in the fourth year of planting, and sustainable fruiting will have to wait another 2−3 years. But these are the largest and sweetest fruits of all cultivated actinidia, reaching a weight of 30 grams.
  4. Kens Ed. Variety of New Zealand breeding produces a large crop of fruits similar to the greenish-purple kegs. They do not have a strong aroma, but have a pleasant taste and do not deteriorate during transportation and long-term storage. Liana does not require shelter for the winter and is able to survive the cold to -25 C.
  5. Purpurna Sadova. Bred in Ukraine since the USSR, the variety is grown now in different countries of the world. Fruits attract rich purple color juicy pulp, literally melting in the mouth, and a pleasant sweet taste with a slight sourness. The berries appear in the third year after planting in the soil of the seedling.
  6. Viti Kivi. Another representative of self-pollinating varieties, which is successfully grown not only in the private sector, but also on an industrial scale. The highlight of the fruit is green - no stones inside.
  7. Wakey. German variety, characterized by a very high yield and ability to pollinate a large number of neighboring plants.
  8. Pineapple (sometimes called Anna) This is a domestic variety, the fruits of which emit the exquisite flavor of a fruit mix, you just have to cut them. The taste is very similar to kiwi. The plant was created for the features of our climate and agrotechnology: unpretentious and frost-resistant, but requiring regular watering and pruning.
  9. Balsamic. Late-ripening Russian variety, which can be harvested at the end of September. The shape of the fruit like a parallelepiped with round tops. They have a slightly tart smell, similar to coniferous, tender flesh and smooth green skin.
  10. Moonlight This novelty is derived for the central and central Russia. The berries are olive-colored, sweetish, refreshing, slightly flattened laterally.
  11. September. Super-cold-resistant vine, able to withstand winters with frost -40. The berries taste extraordinarily delicate and sweet, emerald skin with stripes diagonally. Reaches a height of 7 meters, for the season increases by 1,5−2 meters and requires regular pruning. Capable of productivity for 30−40 years, which is less than the parent forms of lianas.
  12. Maritime. This variety is characterized by large berries with apple flavor and sweet-sour taste. The berries are covered with a shiny greenish-yellow peel with knobs noticeable to the touch. The variety is very resistant to diseases and pests, but requires the mandatory presence of male plants. The harvest will be higher if you put beehives with bees nearby.
  13. Green Balsam. Indeed, the taste of this variety is unique - balsamic, sweet and sour. It does not have a high yield: only 1−3 kg of berries from an adult bush.
  14. Golden Spit. This is a very powerful vine (up to 30 m), having dark large leaves. Able to survive at -40 C. Greenish-yellow elliptical berries have a sweet taste. It blooms later than others - at the end of June.
  15. Relay race. The variety will delight with large sweet fruits, reminiscent in taste of strawberries and pineapple. The wintering of the vines will not be troublesome, it is not afraid of frosts to -35 C.
  16. Taiga emerald. Dark green small fruits taste like strawberries. This unpretentious and frost-resistant low creeper (3-4 meters).

Arguta and Kolomikta - what is exotic?

The most popular types for self-cultivation are Actinidia Colomicta and Actinidia Argut. If you follow the basic rules of planting and care, your plants will give you fruits rich in vitamin C, in addition to this, the plant will adorn your site in a remarkable way.

The first step is the purchase of seedlings and the choice of a landing site. Actinidia is a dioecious plant, so female and male plants are needed if you want to get a harvest.. For pollination, one male plant for five women is enough. Acquiring actinidia, pay attention to the root system, it should be hidden from sunlight and wind. The best time to land is mid-April.

The place where the actinidia colomicta will be planted should be thought out in advance, because it should be light enough, perhaps partial shade, and since it is a vine, then think about the support on which it will grow. It can be a wall of a house, a gazebo, a fence, an arch, or shoot shoots along the trellis. The plant can be planted in almost any soil, except for floating clay. Actinidia grows best on humus-fertilized, slightly acidic soils.

Actinidia argut and colomikta - landing and care of all the rules!

Actinidia bears fruit for half a century, therefore planting and care must be calculated and directed towards the creation of a stable and strong support. Actinidia grows well on a trellis no more than two and a half meters high, which also greatly simplifies plant care and harvesting. For the construction of supports, use the materials available to you (reinforced concrete pillars, metal pipes, etc.)

For planting actinidia colomikta or argut, a pit of 60 cm by 60 cm is needed, at the bottom with a layer of ten to fifteen centimeters pour drainage material (pebbles, broken bricks, pebbles). It is also recommended to make the following fertilizer: 20-30 grams of ammonium nitrate, 200 grams of double superphosphate, 10-12 kilograms of manure and 30 grams of potassium sulfate mixed with the top layer of earth. Having done these simple manipulations, plant your sapling and pour it abundantly. Then the soil is mulched with peat or compost.

Proper care for actinidia should annually contain the following set of actions:

  • It is necessary to weed the ground around actinidia, but this should be done very carefully, since the root system is close to the surface.
  • Actinidia requires good moisture. In the hot season, it is best to spray in the morning and evening, when the sun's rays cannot burn the leaves.
  • Top dressing should be carried out from the beginning of fruiting. To do this, you should add 80 grams of double superphosphate, 30 grams of ammonium nitrate, 60 grams of potassium sulfate. Every second autumn, in addition to humus, add another 60-80 grams of superphosphate and 15 grams of potash salt.
  • Accurate soil loosening. In the spring, immediately after the snow melted, the soil around the actinidians is loosened and covered with organic matter. For winter, the land is exposed only to light loosening.
  • Pruning is strictly prohibited in the spring during the sap flow. The best time to form and thin a plant is late autumn.

Harvesting - how to harvest fruit?

Actinidia colomikta will give you the first fruits at the end of July, but most fruits will ripen throughout August. Actinidia argut is spiced in late August and early September. These fruits are larger than those of colomikta. Ripe berries can be on the vine until frost. Fruits that are fully ripe, often showered, so it is useful to lay the fabric under the vine.

Since the berries ripen unevenly, the harvest can be done gradually, or to collect all the berries at the same time. But in this case, the undisturbed should be left in the boxes for several days. Kiwi, as we used to call them, is pretty well preserved for a long period. If there is nowhere to store them, do not be discouraged - cook the most delicious and original jam or jam.

The recipe for this refinement is very simple! You will need one serving of a kilo of kiwi, two lemons and 750 grams of sugar.

The last ingredient, however, add to taste, because the fruits themselves are quite sweet. First, cut one lemon into small rings and boil it for 15 minutes with a little water and sugar. Then peeled and sliced kiwi slices sprinkled with the juice of the second lemon should be added to the saucepan with the first one and cook for another 10-15 minutes, after which you can either serve the jam or preserve the jam.
