The variety of roses is so huge that it is difficult to decide at a glance which culture is right for you. Types of roses with photos, names and descriptions - a great opportunity to choose the right plants for home and garden, because each variety of this flower has its own characteristics of growing and care.
From this article you will learn what types of garden and indoor plants are, what features of cultivation they are characterized, and photos and videos will help to distinguish between different hybrids in appearance.
What types of roses are
Rose - one of the most ancient flowers. According to research by archaeologists, the first flowers appeared on Earth about 25 million years ago, and in culture there are already 5 thousand years. Even before our era they were cultivated in India and China, and their image was used to decorate the walls of the tombs of the pharaohs.
Scientists believe that Persia is the birthplace of modern culture, but this flower was loved and revered in many countries around the world. For example, in ancient Greece, she was even worshiped, considering it to be not only beautiful, but also a useful flower.
The first detailed description of the culture and features of its care was made by the Greek scientist Theophrastus. But they became especially popular in ancient Rome, where they were considered a symbol of courage and used to decorate the banquet halls. It was the Romans who began using fragrant water and oil for the preparation of cosmetics and medicines. In addition, the petals began to be used in cooking and winemaking.
Note: Since the Romans used the crop and its petals everywhere, it was they who first began to cultivate this flower, growing it not only in the open field, but also in greenhouses.
But the popularity of the plant was not stable. After great popularity in the times of ancient Rome, the flower lost its popularity in the new era, as it served as a living reminder of the debauchery and vices of the Romans. A particularly strong negative attitude emerged during the formation of Christianity, since love for this flower was considered a sign of paganism. Already later it was dedicated to the Mother of God, and the whites - to Mary Magdalene.
New varieties (for example, musky, damask) appeared in southwestern Europe during the Arab conquests in the 8-12 century. During this period, the flowers were interchanged between each other and cultivated by man, but still they differed by a single flowering, and only in the 18th century perennial species that bloomed many times were brought to Europe. They became the main for modern hybrids (Figure 1).
Figure 1. Species variety of roses
A special love for culture was experienced in France. Here created a rose garden and brought new varieties. In Russia, these flowers began to be actively cultivated in the 19th century, and the Nikitsky Botanical Garden became the first center for breeding new types (about 100 domestic hybrids were bred in it). At the moment, breeding work continues, and the number of subspecies already exceeds 2.5 thousand.
At the moment there are about 30 thousand types of culture. All of them are divided into wild (botanical) and garden varieties.
The flower is classified by origin, external signs (flower shape, height of the bush, the structure of the leaves) and biological characteristics (resistance to disease and cold, duration of flowering).
Note: Since the plant has been cultivated for a long time, its classification is considered conditional, since it is difficult to clearly define the identity of individual varieties to certain species. This is explained by the fact that the most ancient of them went through a long period of formation and were mixed with others for many centuries. Figure 2. Popular varieties: 1 - park, 2 - Chinese, 3 - repair, 4 - hybrid tea
The most valuable and popular are the park, hybrid tea, miniature, climbing and groundcover group:
- Park (Figure 3) was cultivated in antiquity (French, Provencal and Moss). They bloom once and have a strong aroma. To the same group belongs a hybrid - wrinkled rose, on the basis of which they have created many other species, differing in wide color diversity.
- Chinese, many-flowered and multiflora were imported to Europe from China. Chinese is also called Bengali (Figure 3). Their flowers have almost no flavor, but appear almost all year round. It was the Bengali variety that became the basis for creating the tea type. It has elegant flowers and rich aroma. But they are not resistant to disease and cold, and when grown in open ground require careful maintenance.
- Repair were created on the basis of the Portland variety (a hybrid of Damascus and Chinese). They are characterized by repetitive flowering, but, unlike the tea, they tolerate cold.
- Hybrid Tea Group appeared thanks to the crossing of tea and repair species. It is the types of this group that are widely used in the modern world, since cultures are not only distinguished by long flowering, but also undemanding content.
- Polyanthic (Figure 3) were obtained by crossing many-flowered and Chinese varieties. As a result, a hybrid emerged that grows into a low compact bush with branching branches and small flowers, which for a long time retain their freshness and flavor. They tolerate cold and are easily propagated by cuttings or roots (for example, "Dick Koster", "Muttertag").
- Floribunda - A special group that was bred on the basis of dwarf and hybrid tea varieties (Figure 3). Their main feature is an intense and prolonged flowering, and the flowers are collected in fairly large inflorescences. It is floribunds that are used for landscaping, as they are easily propagated, are highly resistant to cold, and undemanding to the conditions of the contents.
- Miniature - plants obtained by crossing low polyanthus with other varieties. Such plants are distinguished by small flowers with a rich aroma, which appear on the bushes almost continuously throughout the year, if the culture is grown in an apartment.
- In the middle of the last century, a separate grandiflora group (floribunda hybrids with hybrid tea) was developed. Representatives of this group bloom for a long time and abundantly, differ in color and size, and the bushes grow quite large (up to one and a half meters).
- Group of climbing crops (Figure 4) was obtained by crossing the cultivated varieties with wild plants. The main feature is small flowers, gathered in small inflorescences and long, twisting stems that need support (Dorothy Perkins, Excelsa). As a rule, climbing hybrids bloom one-time, but there are species with repeated flowering ("New Dawn").
- Ground cover group - varieties bred on the basis of Chinese and roses Vihura (Figure 4). These are creeping shrubs with dark green leaves with small flowers. They cover the earth with a dense carpet, and thanks to their resistance to disease and cold, they are easily cultivated ("Swoni" and "Snow Ballet").
Additionally, there is a group of semi-woven crops, but they are conditionally distinguished, since this group includes flowers that are not included in other categories. Flowers of this group are distinguished by abundant but uneven flowering, resistance to diseases and cold. They are easy to propagate by grafting or grafting.
Recently, French breeders brought a completely new hybrids, which are combined into a group of landscape flowers. They have a high decorative value, and due to the abundant and long flowering are actively used for landscaping. From the video you will learn which hybrids of these colors exist.
According to the botanical classification, the flower belongs to the Rosaceae family. In the wild, there are about 400 varieties (they are called wild roses). Mostly wild flowers are found in temperate climates, but there are species growing in the subtropics and the Arctic.
Figure 4. Ornamental species: 1 - grandiflora, 2 - climbing, 3 - ground cover
Breeders regularly develop new flower hybrids, making them more adapted to different growing conditions. A variety of types affects:
- Most species are multi-stem shrubs, deciduous and evergreen,
- There are liana-like varieties that make up garlands of flowers,
- Cultures also differ in height: from dwarf bushes, up to 15 cm high, to huge shrubs that can grow up to 10 m.
As a rule, the stems are covered with thorns, but there are cultures without them. The flowers are bisexual, arranged singly or in small inflorescences.
Roses differ in the number of petals in the inflorescence (Figure 5):
- Simple (4 to 7 petals),
- Semi-double (8-20 petals),
- Moderately terry (21-29 petals),
- Medium double (30-39),
- Gustomahrovye (the number of petals exceeds 40).
Diverse and petal shapes. They can be flat, pointed or curved, forming inflorescences in the shape of a bowl, a ball. Flowers can be goblet-shaped, have a square center, or resemble a camellia or carnation.
Thanks to breeding work, hybrids of a wide variety of shades were brought out, although pink, white and yellow tones are considered the most common. There are cultures that change the color of the petals as the flower ages, as well as flowers with striped or dashed colors.
Note: It is believed that all roses smell the same. But it is not so. Cultures of pink and dark red color have a typical smell; other varieties have a fruity aroma or no smell at all.
Depending on the variety, crops are grown in bush and standard forms, using them for decoration of borders and flowerbeds. Weaving is used to decorate walls and other vertical surfaces. Ground cover used for landscaping slopes. Tea hybrids are grown for ornamental purposes and for cutting in open ground and greenhouses.
Figure 5. Plant species by inflorescence type
Rose is valued not only for its decorative, but also for healing properties. Roots and fruits are used in traditional medicine. In Japan, fruits are used for cooking, as they contain a lot of carotene and vitamins.
Rose room: types, photos and names
Types of room roses with photos and names are so diverse that even beginning flower growers can choose for themselves a beautiful and unpretentious type.
If you are interested in what types of this culture are, we recommend that you read their detailed description with photos and namesand (Figure 6):
- Bengal - low-growing culture, which forms a lush bush with flowers of various shades, from white to bright red. This is one of the most unpretentious species, which does not require forming trimming. It is enough to periodically remove dry and damaged branches. The plant requires moderate watering, and the moisture level of an ordinary city apartment is excellent for this type.
- Polyanthic were obtained by crossing different garden species. As a result, the height of an adult shrub rarely exceeds 50 cm, but at the same time the bush is rather lush, and the flowers can be terry or gathered in a brush.
- Tea also suitable for growing at home. However, one should give preference to the bush varieties, since if the basis of the species was a braided variety, the plant can grow up to two meters in height.
Growing indoor culture, make sure that the plant has enough light. It is possible to place a pot with a flower on any window sill, except northern. In winter, daylight is prolonged by artificial means using fluorescent lamps. Do not allow the plant to overheat, as in such conditions the root system may start to rot, and the culture itself will be more susceptible to disease. It is necessary to periodically feed, and watering should be moderate: it is made more intense only during the flowering period.
Types of Musk Roses
Musk roses are also called landscape, as they are great for decorating the site, but they are distinguished by unpretentious care and endurance.
Note: This group received its name due to the pronounced and rich aroma, which is a bit like the smell of musk.
There are several popular types of musk roses, photos and names of which aree (Figure 7):
- Cornelia - a hybrid with a wide variety of shades of inflorescences, from white to bright pink,
- Buff Beauty different unusual apricot color inflorescences,
- Felice - an unusual selectional hybrid, whose petals are pink inside and apricot outside.
- Pax also refers to the two-color types, as the buds are mostly white, but with a yellow middle.
Despite the fact that musk species are considered hardy and unpretentious, they still need some care. For example, in order to make the flowering more intense, it is necessary to conduct spring pruning, and during the flowering period to make special dressings in the soil. In addition, some musky hybrids do not tolerate partial shade, so they are better planted in well-lit areas with protection from drafts.
Types of Chinese roses with photos and titles
The second name of the Chinese rose is hibiscus, and outwardly this flower does not look like ordinary inflorescences. This is a very popular plant among gardeners, not only because of the unpretentiousness of the growing conditions, but also because of the great diversity of species.
Note: There are about 300 varieties of this plant. They all differ in the color of the buds, the height and shape of the bush.
Types and varieties of Chinese roses, suitable for Russian gardeners, such (Figure 8):
- Trees, for example, the Syrian rose, grows in the form of a small tree, and with regular pruning - in the form of a compact shrub.
- Herbaceous include hibiscus marsh and hybrid. Unlike other types of Chinese roses, which are perennial, grassy varieties are annuals that die off completely in the fall.
It is noteworthy that there are special cold-resistant varieties of hibiscus, specially adapted for growing in our climate. For example, the trifoliate (northern) hibiscus outwardly seems inconspicuous, but during flowering it can become a real decoration of the garden. In addition, it tolerates low temperatures well and does not differ in special care requirements. The only condition - you need to plant such a Chinese rose on a plot with good lighting and loose fertile soil.
Types of climbing roses with photos and names
The main advantage of climbing types over other varieties is a flexible stem, which is tied to supports for decorating gazebos, fences and walls of buildings.
Types of climbing roses are very diverse, so we give only the main ones, with photos and names (Figure 10):
- Golden gate - polupletistaya culture, which throws a lot of shoots, the length of which can reach 4 meters. Yellow velvety flowers are collected in large inflorescences.
- Snow goose - variety of climbing culture with small flowers, which abundantly cover the whole bush. If growing conditions were observed, up to 25 inflorescences can be on one brush. A characteristic feature of the variety is the complete absence of thorns, but it can only be grown in a vertical plane, tying the stems to supports.
- Santana - climbing variety with large bright red inflorescences. The height of the bush rarely exceeds 3 meters, but at the same time the seedlings perfectly take root on any soil, are resistant to disease and cold.
It is important to take into account that the majority of climbing varieties do not tolerate shade well; therefore, they are used in the cultivation of sunny areas. In addition, a prerequisite for care is the installation of supports, which will be attached to the flexible stems of the plant.
Types of garden roses: photos and names
Briefly describe all types of garden types of culture is difficult, as they are presented in a very wide variety.
We will try to describe the most popular varieties of garden roses by type. (Figure 11):
- Miniature (Patio) - These are small bushes with a large number of small inflorescences. One of the most popular varieties is Laurens - a dwarf copy of Bengal rose, which will look great in a small street pot or on the curb.
- Ground cover - plants with long creeping shoots and small inflorescences. They are distinguished by frost resistance and long flowering. Nozomi, Snow Carpet and Candy Rose are among the popular varieties.
- Park cars will be an excellent decoration of the garden, because they bloom profusely and do not require special care. The most valuable variety is rugoza, which is distinguished by large flowers with a strong aroma.
In addition, there are curly, curb and standard hybrids, which are also represented by a wide variety of varieties. Because of this, this beautiful flower can be grown in any climate and on virtually any soil.
Ремонтантные и бурбонские
Среди разновидностей данных цветов есть ремонтантные цветы. Они были выведены в Европе еще в середине-конце 19 века. Название на латыни означает «дважды цветущая». Interestingly, this is the first breeding species capable of pleasing with its blossoming buds at least twice a season. The repairing plant, as a rule, has terry fragrant flowers. There are certain difficulties in the care of such a plant. It is recommended to cover it entirely with the onset of cold weather, otherwise the flower will frost out and next spring will bloom very poorly at best.
As for the Bourbon plant, its homeland is an island called Bourbon, located in the Indian Ocean. Pink roses are not the only shade of this plant. Its color range includes white, red and purple hues. This variety is also recommended to carefully cover for the winter. Consider one significant disadvantage of the variety: it often undergoes various fungal diseases.
Hybrid Tea and Pernitians
Quite popular roses for central Russia are hybrid tea varieties. They were the result of crossing remontant and tea. The shrub is not large, but its leaves are large. The decorative qualities of a plant can vary somewhat depending on the varieties (smooth or rough leaf plate, single flowers or large inflorescences). Among the most popular varieties of hybrid tea roses are the following:
Roses of different types will become a truly original decoration of any garden or even a small flower bed.
Polyanthic and Hybridic
The small flowers of this variety are mostly red or pink. Such a plant is worth starting in your garden if you want a whole summer to continuously enjoy its abundant flowering. The shrub grows very tiny, but at the same time dense.
Another interesting fact: all varieties of polyanthus flowers tolerate even hard frosts.
As a rule, such plants are not planted randomly, and amateur flower growers today do not distinguish them so much from other varieties. However, as part of landscape compositions, they look amazing. In addition, they are often used to decorate a winter garden under glass or as a pot culture.
Floribunda and Grandiflora
Floribunda types of roses are a dream for any grower. Beautiful flowers, even if they do not have a characteristic aroma, have gained wide popularity among domestic flower lovers. And all because the shrub blossoms for a long and quite abundantly, it is resistant to frost. For those who are looking for new varieties of roses, there will be interesting specimens from the grandiflora category. If you compare the decorative properties of shrubs with those already known, they are more reminiscent of hybrid tea roses, but at the same time they bloom much longer.
Light climbing roses are another popular category of flowers. Sometimes a shrub looks ordinary or a florist simply wants to diversify a few of his blossoming garden. In this case, it is worth paying attention to the curly flowers. The key advantage of this plant is not in beauty. And remarkable curly shrub is not only abundant and prolonged flowering.
The main advantage of climbing plants lies in their practicality. With their help, you can make an arch or hedge, you can disguise entire parts of the house or outbuildings.
Peach roses, cream roses or specimens with much brighter shades - such plants also deserve special attention. They are actively grown flower growers. Mature shrub can reach a height of 130 cm, so when the seedling begins to grow, always tie it. In general, the care of red, pink or white garden species will not be too burdensome for you. The main thing is regular watering, hilling, as well as weeding and loosening the land around the bush.
Varieties of white roses or brown roses - no matter what kind of garden queen you like, you need to learn how to properly care for them. Even for miniature. By the way, this category is considered to be no less demanded. Small bushes are pleased with abundant flowering, as well as elegant foliage. In addition, they are rooted not only in the front garden, but also in the pot as a houseplant.
High park roses also fascinate with their ornamental shrubs. At the same time, they do not need to organize too careful care, it is enough to follow basic recommendations. This category is numerous. As a rule, the classification in this case directly depends on climatic conditions. Among the key points - single flowering.
Popular and New Varieties
Cream roses or English roses are a classic. But breeders continue to conquer new heights, and we have the opportunity to experience the original varieties of the queen of the garden. Shades of such roses can be the most diverse or form the most interesting color combinations on one copy. Small or large inflorescences, huge shrubs or miniature plants - the flower queen can decorate your favorite garden in truly unique variations.
From the history of origin
This flower was loved and worshiped in ancient Greece, Egypt, Ancient Rome. Petals adorned the walls of the tombs of the Pharaohs, the halls where the feasts took place. In Rome, the first time they began to use petals for the manufacture of cosmetics - rose oil and water. Of them prepared the wine, brewed therapeutic tea. In Rome, greenhouses were built, they were planted with plantations.
However, there were times when they tried to forget about these flowers and what types of roses, especially during the formation of Christianity, as the rose was considered a pagan flower. Only many years later, the roses were dedicated to the Mother of God and Mary Magdalene.
Much attention was paid to this flower in France. Rose gardens were created, breeders worked on breeding new varieties. The first type of roses were distinguished by the fact that they bloomed once. Only in the 18th century were perennial varieties grown. So they served as material for modern hybrids.
In Russia, flowers appeared in the XIX century. They began to grow and cultivate in the Nikitsky Botanical Garden.
For classification, they take into account in which country they occurred, how they look, when they bloom and what is their departure. Since there are a lot of species, it was difficult to classify them. Only at the XIV Congress of the International Society of Gardeners decided to create a single classification of Rosaceae. To all the characteristics of this plant added additional - biological and decorative features.
From now on in many countries of the world it is customary to divide all varieties into:
- Old garden.
- Modern garden.
By classifying roses, species and varieties, modern rose growers have identified about 9 garden groups.
Park and garden
This group mainly includes wild, old garden roses. Shrubs from this group are most often used to green parks and gardens. They are planted in groups and alone. They are well tolerated in winter, very rarely prone to disease, easy to care for.
Blossom only once a season, but a lot of flowers. Most often small in size, but there are some decorative varieties. Flowers have a diameter of about 10 cm, they can be collected in inflorescences of several pieces. Bushes grow in height to 2 meters.
The park includes the following varieties:
Roses that bloom up to two times per season are referred to as remontant plants. Among them are tall hybrids, reaching 2 meters. Flowers can have a diameter of 10−16 cm
They are very fragrant. Bloom in different shades of color. The first time is in the middle of June, and again - at the end of July, the beginning of August, only flowers are already much smaller than at the first flowering. It is recommended to cover flowers in the middle part of the strip for the winter, to protect plants from fungal diseases.
Among the remontants are the following varieties:
This variety was the result of breeding work. They were obtained by crossing a tea rose with a polyanotope. They are famous for their long and abundant flowering from mid-summer to late autumn.
Bushes can be of different heights, the maximum is 1 meter. Inflorescences are found simple or terry. The colors are very different - cream, white, red, yellow. Flowers are well tolerated in winter, rarely subject to various diseases.
Among the varieties of floribunda there are low varieties that are called patio. They do not grow above half a meter, so they are recommended to be planted in containers or used as a curb.
To obtain tea roses, breeders made the crossing of Chinese, heat-loving in nature and remontant varieties. It turned out the flowers with excellent characteristics. They differ in long flowering from mid-June to late autumn. Flowers can be single or assembled in inflorescences of several buds. Plant height is very different - from 50 cm to 1.5 meters.
Tea flowers are a heat-loving culture, so it is recommended to cover them for the winter. Plants are often affected by diseases and pests, among them - spider mite, aphid. It is necessary to properly care for and timely treat pests.
1. Park roses
This group includes antique roses, including decorative rosehips. As the name implies, such plants are often used for landscaping parks and gardens, they look great in both single and group plantings. Park roses winter-hardy, rarely get sick and are not very picky in their care. They often decorate flowerbeds on the streets of cities.
These roses bloom early and abundantly, but they bloom for a short time and only once per season. However, the rich aroma of these flowers is truly intoxicating.
In decorative varieties of park roses, the flowers reach 10 cm in diameter, they are single or gathered in inflorescences of 3-6 pieces. Leaves - large, leathery, wrinkled. The height of a wide and dense bush is usually 1-2 m.
This group includes wrinkled rose (rugoza).
Varieties and hybrids:Grottendorst, Pink Grottendorst, Ritausma.
2. Repair roses
The main feature of these roses - re-bloom. On vigorous (up to 2 m high) upright and sprawling bushes in the second half of June large, fragrant, double flowers with a diameter of 8 to 16 cm bloom. Most often they are red, pink, beige, white or yellow. In July and August, remontant roses bloom again, though not so abundantly.
These roses are winter-hardy, but in harsh winters they can still freeze slightly, so they require shelter. In addition, they are prone to fungal diseases.
Varieties and hybrids:Georg Arends, Georg Dickson, Paul Neuron, Frau Karl Druški, Hugh Dickson.
3. Hybrid Tea Roses
These popular roses are descended from heat-loving Chinese tea roses, crossed with remontant ones. Thanks to this, we managed to get flowers that exceeded all the known species and varieties by their characteristics.
In the middle zone of Russia, hybrid tea roses bloom in the second half of June and do not cease to please with their lush, double flowers of various colors, which are located on the stem singly or are collected in small inflorescences until the very frost. The height of the bush - from 60 to 150 cm.
Hybrid tea roses are thermophilic, demanding to the place of growth. Often they are affected by disease and pest attack. However, with proper care and good winter shelter, they bloom profusely throughout the summer.
Varieties and hybrids:Angelique, Athena, Black Baccarat, Gloria Dei, Duftvolke, Mainzer fastnacht, Nostalgie, Limbaugh, Sonia.
Sometimes a group of grandiflora (large-flowered roses) is isolated separately. As a rule, it includes tea hybrid roses. The most popular variety is Queen Elizabeth.
4. Polycanthus roses
On low, dense and strongly branching bushes in mid-July, a lot of medium-sized roses (up to 6 cm in diameter) are bloomed, gathered in inflorescences of 20-100 flowers. They can be both simple and terry.
Polyantovye roses bloom until late autumn, their flowers in cut form can stand for up to 15 days. Coloring can be white, pink, red, orange. And polyantovye roses are distinguished by the fact that they have almost no thorns.
In the middle band, the bushes of these roses require light cover. They can also be grown in the Urals and Siberia.
Polyanthus roses are most often used in group plantings and borders, and some low varieties (for example, Muttag and Dick Koster) suitable for growing in containers.
Varieties and hybrids:Border King, Gloria Mundi, Yvonne Rabier, Cameo, Orange Triumph.
7. Ground Cover Roses
This group combines creeping shrubs with densely leafy long shoots (up to 4 m), which densely cover the soil. Flowers may be simple, double or semi-double, small or medium. Most varieties of ground cover grow with long and abundant flowering. Such plants do not require special care and are resistant to fungal diseases.
Groundcover roses are used for landscaping slopes and creating standard roses of a weeping form.
Varieties and hybrids:Alba Mayan, Besi, Gold Carpet, Ondela, Snow Ballet, Swoni, Fairy.
8. Climbing Roses
These roses have small flowers (2-5 cm in diameter), collected in large inflorescences, and long, creeping shoots, which require support. Therefore, climbing roses are usually used for vertical gardening: they are decorated with pergolas and arches.
Climbing roses are usually divided into 2 groups:
- Small flowers (ramblers) - with shoots up to 5 m long, with odorless small flowers that bloom once.
- Large blooms (climber) - with larger flowers, resembling hybrid tea roses. During the summer, they may bloom again.
Varieties and hybrids:Dorothy Perkins, New Dawn, Rosarium Yuthersen, Flamentants, Schwanensee, Excels.
Previously, a separate group was allocated semi-woven roses - intermediate between climber and hybrid tea or floribunda roses. Now they are often referred to as shrubs.
9. Bush Roses (Scrubs)
This group combines powerful rose bushes, which are distinguished by high growth, abundant and long, but single flowering and good resistance to adverse growing conditions. This group also includes large wild rose bushes and English Austin roses - with dense flowers with a rich aroma.
Varieties and hybrids: Abraham Darby, Graham Thomas, Bear, Rhapsody in Blue, Rococo, Charles Austin, Hans Park, Chippendale, Charlotte.

Roses - types and varieties for Russian gardens with names and descriptions
Good all the time of day!
Today, the garden theme will be devoted to such a wonderful, and very beautiful plant, like a rose. Surely, everyone in the garden at least one bush of this lovely flower, but there is.
In general, the name itself is common to a large number of a wide variety of varieties and species of this plant. By the way, the well-known wild rose - belongs to the same family.
To grow on your site these beautiful shrubs, strewn with bright flowers and still unopened buds will have to try. But before we talk about this, let's take a closer look at the most popular varieties and species.
Types and varieties of roses with names and descriptions
This plant has gained popularity solely due to its beauty and delicate aroma. And so it is actively grown in their garden plots and greenhouses. And not only grow already known varieties, but also constantly produce new ones, even more interesting and amazing.
In this case, not only trained professionals, but also ordinary amateur gardeners are engaged in selection work. If you are the owner of several different species of this plant, then you just have to have basic skills in this direction, and you can try to bring any variety on your own.
But before we delve into the selection, let's first look at how the species differ from each other, by what parameters they are attributed to a particular species, or subspecies?
If we consider these plants in the form of a bush, we can distinguish such as sprawling, creeping, narrow pyramidal and drooping.
They differ in height:
- up to 25-35 cm - miniature
- 30-45 cm - polyanthium
- 30-90 cm - hybrid tea and floribunda
- from 2.5 to 6 m - climbing
When talking about roses, everyone seems to be a thorny plant. However, the trunk of them may be densely strewn with thorns, and be simply covered with small bristles, and there are varieties that do not have thorns at all.
By the number of petals in a flower, there are also differences:
- up to 7 petals - simple
- from 8 to 20 petals - semi-double
- from 20 to 60 petals - terry
- more than 60 petals - double-lined
Even the shape of the flower can be different.
Well, already about the colors and colors and can not speak. The most traditional ones, of course, are red and pink, white and yellow. But there are more rare - black and green, and even brown. In addition, in addition to monochromatic colors, there are also combinations of various shades.
And in order to make it easier to navigate in all these “beautiful plantings”, a special classification was developed, which takes into account all the biological and decorative features of this popular flower. And in 1976, the world organization of the Federation of Rose Societies, which had the abbreviation WFRS, was engaged in the development of such a useful tool.
How does this system classify all varieties and species. Look at the list below.
The most famous representative in this category is wrinkled, or ribbed (or simply dogrose), which grows in large quantities in many parks and squares, and does not require special care. It grows in the form of spreading powerful bushes from 1.5 to 2 meters in height. It has only one row of petals, as a rule there are 5 of them, all of which are fully formed.
The color of the petals can be purple, pink and white. After flowering gives abundant fruits.
- needle-shaped or prickly rose
- may or cinnamon
- wild rose (dog rose)
- feminine leaf
Flowers at wild representatives please with their appearance only one day. At sunset, they close, and even having dissolved in the morning, they are already losing their freshness and appearance.
Old garden roses
These varieties are called "old" because they were bred before the hybrid tea varieties appeared in the 19th century. Since then, they have not changed, because this name was fixed to them.
This species is quite unpretentious in the care, and is resistant to various diseases and therefore is very popular among gardeners. As a rule, these are hybrids and various garden forms of ornamental wild representatives.
All varieties in this category have exquisite beauty and incredible aroma. Although at first they were not able to bloom many times. Only due to the appearance of tea roses, and then hybrids, their blooming became possible for quite a long time. Grow as a rule in the form of bushes that can grow well.
Their feature is the early abundant flowering, which can continue until the fall, and after that they also delight us with beautiful fruits.
There are such varieties:
- Centiphol (tabletop)
Hybrids were created to facilitate the care of these naughty creatures. Thanks to new cultivars, many gardeners were able to delight their eyes all season with beautiful flowers in a variety of colors. Hybrids are less sick, better adapted to weather conditions and are not afraid of cold winters.
They were obtained by crossing remontant and tea varieties and species. And since then they have taken their rightful place in many areas.
There are such varieties:
- Thetis, or Lutea
- Tea and their climes
Modern garden roses
In this category, according to various estimates, there are more than 15,000 representatives, which differ in shape, height, color, and flavor.
And they are also divided into garden groups:
- Hybrid tea
