The insecticidal plant protection drug, Mospilan, has clearly passed the peak of popularity among summer residents and small private growers, and during it hopes for this drug were definitely excessive. But the potential of Mospilan as a plant protection product (NWR) against pests has not yet been exhausted. The active ingredient of the drug stops the development of eggs of harmful organisms, and very few plant protection agents have an impact on their non-feeding phases. Therefore, it would not be superfluous to figure out in what cases and how Mospilan in an individual farm is still applicable and useful.

Composition and release form

The insecticide Mospil is designed and manufactured by Nippon Soda Co. The active ingredient, α-acetamiprid, is a white or yellowish powder (see fig.) With a solubility in water of 4.2 g / l. This allows you to produce the drug for the purpose of agrochemistry in the form of a water-soluble powder (GRP, RP) or a water-soluble concentrate of VRK, since Acetamiprid is much better soluble in organic solvents, for example. in ethyl alcohol. Sales forms of other manufacturers in the form of wettable powder JV, suspensions, emulsions (KS, SK, KE) necessarily contain additives that may not be indicated in the description of the preparation.

Acetamiprid belongs to the class of neonicotinoids and is a contact-intestinal nerve poison. Its effect on pests is similar to that of other substances of this class (see below): the drug blocks the nicotine-dependent acetylcholine receptors of the synaptic membranes of nerve cells. The object of defeat ceases to feed, and within an hour convulsions and death await it. But, unlike other neonicotinoids, acetamiprid is able to penetrate to some extent through the membranes of fertilized eggs and kill the developing embryo, i.e. the drug Mospilan also has ovicidal activity, although limited, see below.

In the comments to this video is one of the possible reasons: not the original drug. It is likely, because “Analogues” of the bulk-purchased active ingredient often contain acetamiprid in a concentration of 5-10 times less than the original. Well, if it is indicated on the packaging or in the description, see fig. below, but it often happens that there is not.

Secondly, neonicotinoids are incompatible with plant protection products having an alkaline reaction (Bordeaux mixture, preparations with copper, lime, soda), this is the summer residents and private owners know. But not everyone knows that Mospilan is absolutely incompatible with sulfur. If, prior to its use in the sprayer, a sulfur-containing preparation was refueled, then there is little washing of the device. From traces of sulfur it needs to be disinfected, and in relation to this substance is oh so difficult. And if there are insignificant traces of sulfur in the sprayer, then the company Mospilan will be sprayed out of it almost ineffective.

Thirdly, aphids in the open field is very difficult to lime without first getting rid of the ants grazing it. Without them, the aphid population will not grow to bring tangible harm - the natural enemies will not give. At the same time, acetamiprid is extremely toxic for carnivorous insects, also see below. And the ovicidal activity of Mospilan on aphids eggs is small, best of all, it destroys the laying of mining mines. As a result, the ants have time to save part of their flock for breeding, useful predators, after eating poisoned aphids, die, and the effect of Mospilan against aphids turns out to be the opposite.

Mospilan and bees

The allegations about the alleged safety of Mospilan for bees, excuse me, or utter ignorance, or shameless lies. There are 4 known neonicotinoids today:

  • Acetamiprid (drugs certified for individual farms of Grind, Mospilan, Stozhar).
  • Imidacloprid (same, Boreas, Golden Spark, Konfidor, Tanrek, Taboo).
  • Tiakloprid (Biskaya, Calypso).
  • Thiamethoxam (Aktara).

In all of them, the hazard class for insects (any) and aquatic organisms is not lower than 4th, and for Bees, it is safe to assign the 5th (deadly) to bees. It is because of too iridescent, not at first attitudes towards neonicotinoids that some Western countries are now importing bees and beneficial insects - their all have become extinct. In France, where there are no uncultured lands and reserves of wild insects in nature long ago, all neonicotinoids were banned as early as 1999. In 2017, under pressure from the “brethren” in the EU, the Ministry of Agriculture of France allowed Calypso with ticlopridum, but local authorities agrotechnics refrain from recommendations for its use.

In Russia, there are more natural spaces that are not contaminated by pesticides, and land use is much less chaotic. It is at least a matter of principle to provide an apiary protection zone of more than 3 km and more or less systematic use of pesticides in summer arrays and small settlements. Replenishment of the beneficial entomofauna in cultivated areas from natural reserves is quite real. Therefore, in addition to the above 11 drugs for small areas at the beginning of 2018, another 8 or 9 drugs on neonicotinoids are allowed for large agricultural engineering in the Russian Federation. But it is better for private traders in the open field to rely only on the Golden Spark and the Confidor from the Colorado potato beetle, since full replacement is not. And with Mospilan need to be careful, see at the end. In any case, Mospilan should not be used during flowering at the site of any nectar-bearing plants minus two days before it and plus the same after.

Mospilan from Colorado

Mospilan is relatively cheap (about $ 70 per package of 0.5 cubic dm of original powder), is stored for a long time in suitable conditions (see below) and can be selected from the opened package in parts. But, of course, there is no guarantee that the recipe will work in other local conditions, in this case. As well as objective qualified studies confirming the effectiveness of the technique and the absence of post-effects from it. And the land is not “my hut on the edge,” land use rules apply to everyone. Something bad happened in amateur surroundings in the vicinity - the experimenter is to blame.

Precautionary measures

For humans, warm-blooded Mospilan is a 3rd hazard class substance. But, first, it is necessary to take into account the better than other neonicotinoids, the permeability of the skin for acetamiprid. Secondly, the specifics of the use of the drug in a private sector, see at the end.

If the operator shows signs of discomfort, stop working and consult a doctor. Symptoms of poisoning: shortness of breath, salivation (increased salivation), tremor (trembling limbs, facial ticking), impaired coordination of movements, convulsions. In case of contact with the skin, remove it without rubbing it with a swab moistened with a solution of baking soda, and wash yourself in the shower with soap. In case of contact with eyes, rinse them open under running water. If swallowed, immediately consult a toxicologist: there is no antidote, symptomatic treatment.

The original Mospilan in unopened packaging stores 36 months. in a dark place (all neonicotinoids are subject to photolysis). In reality, the powder can be selected in parts for 2 seasons from tightly closing steam-tight containers, if the drug is stored in a dry place (neonicotinoids are subject to hydrolysis). The remaining storage conditions are usual for pesticides: under constipation from children and animals in a separate non-residential room in which food is not stored. The permissible storage temperature range of Mospilan + (5-30) degrees Celsius.

Compatibility

For the preparation of tank mixtures of Mospilan with means of agrochemistry of a neutral or weakly acidic reaction that does not contain sulfur (see above), it is necessary to first test for compatibility. In a shaded room, 50-100 ml of working solutions are prepared, poured into clean glassware and left for an hour in the dark or dimness. If there are signs of a chemical reaction (changes in temperature and / or color of the mixture, turbidity, precipitation of flakes and / or sediment, bubbles, foam) - the preparations are incompatible. But this is not a guarantee of compatibility: by handicraft methods, the incompatibility of pesticides is precisely determined only by the absence of a protective action.

Application procedure

The temperature range of efficacy of Mospilan corresponds to that for storage. That is, this pesticide is not spring and little effective in the summer heat. The working solution of the drug is prepared in a plastic bucket in the shade or in a shaded room. Water temperature - 20-25 degrees. The container is poured with water for a third to a quarter, with continuous stirring with a chemically neutral stirrer (glass, plastic), the powder is gradually introduced, stirred for another 3-5 minutes and, with stirring, the water is added to the norm. The finished solution is immediately poured into the spray tank. It should be developed within 24 hours. Bearing in mind the disintegration of the drug in the light, the treatment should be carried out in the evening. Time to rain - from 4 hours.

Think about the future

Mospilan, as well as imidacloprid (the basis of the Spark of Gold and Kofidora) at first seemed to be ecologically safe in the long term, since does not contain long-lasting negative post-effects of sulfur, phosphorus, metals. But its deadly effect on insects has already led to a quiet but severe environmental disaster in some Western countries. In Russia, the place and wildlife a lot, but not infinitely many. To control the environmental impact of many small farms is immeasurably more difficult than large areas. For spraying apple trees, 2.5 grams of Mospilan is diluted in 1 liter of water, after which, with constant stirring, it is gradually diluted to a volume of 10-12 liters. For treatment against shield insects, Mospilan should be used 2 times more.

An hour after spraying, the pests begin to lose activity. A day after treatment, the pests die. Effective at high and medium temperatures. Protective effect lasts 2-3 weeks.

First aid

If the drug gets into the eyes, they should be washed in the open state with plenty of running water.

If swallowed, take activated charcoal (1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight), drink two or three glasses of water, and then induce vomiting. There is no antidote - symptoms are treated.

Storage of mospilan

Mospilan should be stored at a temperature of -15 to +30 degrees in a dry place inaccessible to animals and children. Do not store with food and medicine. Working solution is not subject to storage. It is not allowed to mix Mospilan with other drugs, when used in subsidiary farms.
