How to grow tangerine tree from the stone at home?

The most affordable way is to grow a tangerine tree from the stone. To do this, you need a ripe mandarin and a pot of soil. First, remove the seed from the fruit and process it with a growth stimulator, which you can always buy at a gardening shop. Follow the instructions that are usually on the label.

Next, put on the bottom of the pot with a hole a few broken shards or pieces of brick. This will result in drainage, without which the roots will be damp and stuffy. Fill the pot with soil. For her, take the purchased ground for citrus or prepare a mixture of humus, sod land, peat and sand, taken in equal quantity. Land for mandarin need to steam over a pot of boiling water.

Plant a bone in a pot, pour and place in a warm place. It will take a long time, only a month later a sprout will appear. This time the soil needs to be watered periodically so that the soil does not dry out. Move the pot with the sprout to the lighted place, take care of the young tree and after a couple of years you will get a beautiful plant that will bloom and even rejoice with the fruits. True, they will not be tasty, and in order to get sweet tangerines, you need to plant this bush at a young age or grow another plant from a cutting. For grafting mandarin you need to take a stalk or a bud from a varietal plant.

Growing mandarin from cuttings

To get a plant with sweet fruits, you need a mandarin with a sprig and a leaf. This can be bought in the store. The main thing is that the twig was not dried. Cut the stalk with a leaf and plant in loose fertile ground. Pour and cover with a half-cut plastic bottle of soda water with the lid unscrewed.

After a couple of months, the twig will take root and new leaves will appear. All this time it is important to monitor the soil moisture. When the plant finally strengthened, the shelter can be removed. Further, care is reduced to regular watering, annual transplanting into a more spacious pot with soil replacement and fertilizing. For dressings, take manure, diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10. Water the soil under the home tree with this solution 2 times a year, in spring and autumn.

At first, the mandarin will grow, then it will bloom with beautiful white flowers, and soon you will be able to enjoy its fruits, grown personally on the windowsill.

How to grow tangerine from the bone with his own hands at home?

The process of growing a tree from a stone consists of several stages:

  • The first stage is the preparation of pits.

The very first thing to do is to make the selected seeds swell.

To do this, you can buy seeds, but you can take them from the tangerine (only pre-dried).

Next, the bones should be soaked in gauze for several days.

The main thing to remember is that there should not be a lot of water.

Gauze should be wet. For one tree, you need to prepare about fifteen seeds, since not all will swell and give sprouts.

  • The second stage - planting / soil preparation

Hacked seeds must be planted in a pot.

Only first you need to choose the right soil / soil. The ideal option would be to purchase a special soil for citrus trees.

However, this is not so important, the soil is also suitable.

Since the home tangerine tree is unpretentious. Therefore, you can choose a mixture of soil from sod and leaves.

It is important to remember that it is impossible to choose peat, as it quickly sours and dries, moreover, it has a minimum of beneficial bacteria.

And you can also make a soil mix with your own hands. For this you will need: sand, turf, humus, leaf soil, clay.

For drainage needed: small pebbles, expanded clay, brick chips. Next to the bottom of the pot drainage layer runs out, and on top of it - the soil mixture.

Only after that, you can plant ready-made bones, which will sprout in a few weeks.

At the initial stage of growth, the future tangerine tree does not need any care. But as soon as it gives the first shoots, you need a special feeding.

Can be fertilized with organic and inorganic nutrients.

. However, for the best effect, you should purchase supplements for citrus representatives.

Which tangerine is necessary to use the bones?

Grow a tangerine tree from seed is not difficult.

The main thing to remember, in order for the seed to sprout, you need a large mandarin.

Remove from it you need only the most solid hard stones.

At home, it is best to engage in the cultivation of low-growing representatives. In principle, you can plant any kind of citrus plants.

But to obtain a fragrant harvest, preference should be given to such varieties of mandarin as:

  • Skoroplodny Unshiu. This variety refers to the yield and unpretentious. This is a low-growing tree with large foliage. And if you properly care, this variety will delight the fruits all the time.
  • Room Murcott. This variety pleases sweet, honey fruits.
  • Early conquering Shiva Mikan. Unpretentious, room representative citrus. It smells strong and gives fruit.
  • Clementine. It will easily become a wild species so that this does not happen, a vaccination against domesticated mandarin is needed.

How to sprout bones before planting and check germination?

Before planting, you must prepare the seeds themselves in the amount of fifteen pieces. After all, not everyone will come. Next, you need to sprout bones.

This can be done like this:

  • A small piece of gauze needs to be folded several times. Then, in the resulting gauze segment you need to fold the bones. And constantly wet with water for a couple of days. After a while the seeds will be ready. They swell and hatch.
  • In addition, you can purchase a hydrogel. When interacting with water, it swells, besides, it creates excellent conditions for seed germination. Place the tangerine seed is necessary in the central layer of the hydrogel, as in the bottom a lot of moisture, and the top quickly dries.
  • Still do not prepare the seed. Plant directly into the prepared soil, and wait for the sprouts. Only at the same time it is necessary not to forget about watering defended with water.
  • Unfortunately, it is impossible to determine whether the seed will rise or not. However, practice shows that there are some points that need to be paid attention to.

There is one interesting way - you need to take the selected bones and put them in a bowl with water. The bones that went to the bottom are alive, which means they will germinate. But those who surfaced are dead and will not give germs.

How to cook the right soil, plant and water?

Soil for tangerine wood can be purchased already ready in a special store. And you can do it yourself.

This will require: the top layer of the earth, located in deciduous trees, river sand, humus, ash.

The recipe for preparing the soil will be as follows:

  • leafy ground - two glasses,
  • river sand - one glass,
  • humus - three tablespoons,
  • ash - one tablespoon.

At the beginning of the bottom of the pot is laid drainage, consisting of small stones, brick chips and expanded clay.

From above the ready ground is laid. Here such soil can already be planted prepared tangerine seeds.

And you need to plant as follows: each bone is placed in the deepening of the soil for four centimeters.

Water the tangerine plant should be as the soil dries.

At the same time it is impossible to allow full drying of the earth. The soil moisture must be monitored continuously, especially in the warm season.

Water for watering should be boiled. In addition, it must be defended for several days immediately before watering.

The emergence of the first shoots and proper care after the emergence of sprouts

It is impossible to say exactly when the first shoots will appear.

Each time you need a different amount of time. Sometimes germination occurs after a few days, sometimes after a fortnight, and sometimes after a month.

In any case, the important point is to monitor the humidity and temperature.

After the sprouts rise, it is necessary first of all to maintain the soil moisture and create additional lighting.

Care of small shoots is:

  • Watering. For the best growth of seedlings in the prepared water, you can add a little potassium permanganate.
  • Spraying. As well as for watering, settled water is necessary.
  • Do I need to cover the tangerine plant, the right lighting, watering, care and transplanting
  • Every year the plant is transplanted into a larger pot. The plant should feel comfortable. When the mandarin reaches the age of four, it is transplanted into a wooden container and left to grow for several years.
  • Mandarin transplant should be carried out in the spring, when the citrus representative wakes up completely. Begin transplanting should be a small dig, so as not to damage the roots.

  • To the ground better moved away from the walls of the pot, it must be moistened.
  • To root with the ground moved, the pot needs a little knock.
  • Tangerine tree must be carefully taken by the trunk and pull out, not brushing off the old soil.
  • Tangerine tree must be placed in a prepared container and filled with new soil from above.
  • Strongly tamp the plant is not necessary. It is necessary to water and put in the sun.
  • Tangerine plants need sunlight. The more light, the tastier and more abundant the harvest.
  • Mandarin soil should always be wet. In the summer it is necessary to water every day, and in the winter several times a week.
  • In winter, the tangerine plant does not need to be fed, but in the warm season it needs to be fertilized. The tree will need nutrients several times a month. Fertilizers containing phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen, as well as mineral compounds are necessary.
  • Cover the tangerine tree with cellophane is necessary only for vegetative reproduction.

In conclusion, it should be noted that growing tangerine trees at home is not a difficult task.

The main thing is to follow certain rules.

Their observance will bring joy to the beginning gardener.

Features of dwarf mandarins

This is a decorative type of plants, differing in low growth. They are indoor varieties of mandarins. Mature trees are usually not higher than 80 cm. This made them popular among the plants that are kept on the windowsill.

For indoor tangerine tree there is no need to form a crown. However, from time to time it is necessary to remove the branches that have withered or grown incorrectly. The peculiarity of dwarf mandarin is that it begins to bear fruit after two years of life. However, the size and taste of the fruit is the same as that of ordinary fruit trees.

Planting and Transplant Basics

In order to plant a plant you need to take a suitable pot. His stuff doesn't matter. But there is an important condition that the upper part of the diameter does not exceed 15 cm, and in height it must be the same. The bottom of the tank should have one or several small holes that during irrigation excess water could drain from it.

The pot can be in the form of a plastic bucket, wooden, ceramic or glass container. At its bottom must be placed drainage, which may be expanded clay or sand. Practice shows that charcoal after the fire plays the role of drainage. Do not drain more than 5 cm in height.

After selection of drainage it is necessary to take some soil in order to powder it. Any soil in this case will not work. There are specially prepared soil types, for example “Mandarin”. They can be purchased in specialized stores.

In some cases, soil preparation can be done by yourself. Where old deciduous trees grow in the forest, take some soil. However, avoid places where oak, poplar or chestnut grows. The soil is most fertile in the upper layers, the thickness of which is 10 cm. In addition, sand must be added to it, river water, ash, humus, if any, will be suitable. Dilute a glass of earth with a glass of sand, three tablespoons of humus and a tablespoon of ash, as well as a small amount of water. You should have a thick mass similar to sour cream. This will help avoid airborne void near the root of the tree.

When half a year has passed, it is necessary to take a container that would be 5 cm longer and transplant small tangerines there. When you planted a tree, it is necessary to spray it from time to time and water it with a weak means of potassium permanganate.

Prepare a place for the plant in advance. For this, a window sill is suitable, which is directed towards the light so that sufficient sunshine falls on the leaves.

Plant Breeding Basics

Propagation occurs when seedlings are planted from other citrus fruits, such as orange and lemon. Also use this method air slips. If you want to graft the plants using amateur conditions, then you will not succeed.

Important attention should be paid to lighting. The window on which you will keep the plant should be on the southern sunny side. When summer comes, take it outside to take a breath of fresh air. This may be a veranda, garden or balcony. However, it is important that this place is protected from the wind.

It is good if the plant grows on the south side, but it is important not to forget in the summer to save it from being exposed to direct sunlight. It can damage the roots and crowns, as well as burns on the mandarin of the stone at home. How to avoid it? Make a curtain of gauze and place it on the window where the tree stands. When you plan to leave home, make it a rule to cover the glass with a curtain, especially when the sunny days are passed.

Temperature and watering plants

Did you put the mandarin on the windowsill? Then in the winter it should be taken care of, well insulated window. Also carry out warming and the pot with a tree. To mandarin threw buds and bloomed, it is important to maintain the temperature up to 18 degrees. Also should be suitable humidity - 60%. You should not be afraid of high temperatures, because the plant has the ability to withstand up to 40 degrees of heat.

We now turn to the basics of watering. As the topsoil dries, it is necessary to water the plant. In no case should the earth clod dry up in a pot. Every day, determine how wet the soil is by checking with your fingers the surface layer of the earth. If during the test you notice that the earth is stuck together, then it does not need watering, but if it starts to crumble, then watering is mandatory.

Especially in the summer, it is important to monitor the condition of the soil. After all, due to the fact that the tree is affected by high temperature and bright sun, the earth often dries up. It is worth remembering that not any water is suitable for watering.

If you have a city apartment, then the water from it is not suitable for watering mandarin. This is due to the fact that it contains alkaline earth metals, as well as chlorine. Such substances only harm the plant. As a result, its leaves will suffer from chlorosis, and in the soil metabolic processes will be disturbed.

It would be nice to boil water every time, but you hardly need such a hassle. Another good option is to use hot tap water, which contains less chlorine and, moreover, it is soft. Before watering the tree, leave the water in an open container for a day - then chlorine will be completely removed from it. Ведь это вещество губительного для любого цитрусового

Если вы владеете частным домом, то подойдет вода из колодцев. Однако та вода, которая находится в озере или ручье, еще лучше. Перед поливом пусть она немного подогреется при комнатной температуре. Rainwater is not suitable for irrigation, because it contains harmful impurities. And what is the best way to care for mandarin in the winter? Heat the water so that it has up to 35 degrees of heat. Then the tree will grow better and bear fruit. In summer, this issue is easier to handle by simply putting water on the window, where there is more sun.

Spraying and fertilizer

For tangerine wood, watering alone is not enough. Every day it is necessary to spray it with clean water. Especially you need to take care of it in the summer. Use a sprayer or other means to spray to create moisture. Thanks to this there will be no dust on the leaves and they will be able to breathe. Also once a month it is necessary to carry out the following procedure: put the plant in the bathroom, cover a section of the soil with a plastic film, while treating the entire plant with a cotton swab and soap suds. This will allow you to forget about the heavy pest control. However, remember that you need to take gauze or bandage to tie up the trunk of a tree. This will prevent soapy water from entering the ground.

And what about fertilizer? In winter, there is no need to feed mandarin. But in the summer and spring, they do it every two weeks. There are features that show how to properly feed. Do not begin to do this before you water the plant, because otherwise you will burn the roots. Wet soil is suitable for feeding.

How abundant is it necessary to fertilize a tree? Make sure that it is enough and that it directly flows out of the drainage hole. In specialized stores you will see a large selection of fertilizers. You can also use the usual fish soup, which is suitable for plants that are above one meter. Thanks to this feeding, it will start to bear fruit better. But at the same time, do not neglect the special fertilizers, such as "Mandarin".

Fighting pests

Mandarin can be damaged by sucking and gnawing pests, as well as fungi and viruses. You can often encounter a spider mite and a shield. To combat them use chemical and biological products. However, this is the case if you plant the plant on open ground. Toxic chemicals are best not to use within the apartment.

How can you determine that the plant needs care? For example, it can be covered with white dots. You can also see a reddish mite on it that moves quickly if you touch it. In addition, white web may appear on white leaves.

To combat such pests, use tobacco dust, garlic and laundry soap. One tablespoon of tobacco dust is poured with boiling water (one cup). All this must be insisted on for 6 days. To this, then add a laundry soap. Spray the plant every 6 days. However, take a break for 6 days.

And how to use garlic from pests? Mash the head of the plant and fill it with hot water. Wait 2 days and strain the broth. Spray mandarin can be on the same previous scheme.

What if you noticed that the plant was covered with brown-gray shiny formations? So this defeat of the shield. This can be overcome with the help of water-oil emulsions. Lubricate the engine oil (1 tsp) with warm water (1 cup). To this, add laundry soap (40 g) and washing powder (2 large spoons). When you handle this plant, be sure to use plastic wrap to cover it with soil. Also apply a bandage to bandage the trunk. Due to this, the emulsion does not fall on the ground and does not damage it. For processing, you can use a cotton or gauze swab. Treat the entire surface and leaves of the plant. Then wait 4 hours and wash everything away. This procedure also needs to be done 3 times.

Thanks to such simple advice you will grow a beautiful plant.

Experts are unanimous in the opinion that without a graft a tree will not bear fruit. Do not let this scare you, it is easy to acquire a cultured graft, one sprig will be enough. The tangerines grown in this way, for 3-4 years, delight with orange fruits.

The graft will quickly take root on a well-established crown. Such a plant will cost much less than buying citrus at a flower shop. Many amateur gardeners share sprigs for breeding different varieties of cultivated mandarin.

There are cases when mandarins go on sale with sprigs. For the sake of experiment, you can try to instill or implant it. You do not need to be afraid of difficulties, there will be no problems with the plant. Effort will be rewarded with a fragrant harvest.

Optimal conditions for growing

Unpretentious plant requires some conditions for placement and cultivation. Observing these requirements, you can achieve fruiting throughout the year. If the tree is properly maintained, it will constantly bloom and bear fruit. Often on the windows you can find tangerines with fruits of different maturity. Conditions to be met:

  • stable temperature condition not less +14 degrees ,
  • the best place in the house unshadowed windows on the south side
  • plant need sufficient air humidity, it can be achieved by spraying,
  • during the dry period it is necessary provide regular watering (it is recommended to put a container with water nearby),
  • autumn and winter, reduce the frequency of watering, add soil loosening,
  • feed in the spring universal fertilizers.
In the first year of fruiting mandarin, some flowers are pinned

In adult plants form a crown, remove excess twigs. With abundant flowering in the first year of fruiting, it is better to pinch part of the inflorescence. This is done in order not to burden the young tree. It is necessary to monitor the condition of the mandarin, so that there is no disease on the leaves and drying out.

How to choose a bone for planting?

Bone taken from the ripe bright orange color of the fruit. Yellow and green are not suitable. To get 2-3 sprouts, you need to collect at least 10 strong seeds. . Planting is better to make immediately, no need to wait until the bones are dry and wrinkle. It is preferable to buy tangerines in the season of natural fruiting, in autumn or winter.

The rest of the year there is a greater chance of getting poor-quality shoots of hybrids. The quality of the seed can be checked with water.. Heavy seeds will sink, hollow will remain floating on top. Thanks to the selection of high-quality seed, seedlings will be strong and stable. Weak seeds may die over time.

Landing conditions

Conditions may seem difficult, but these are only subtleties that need to be met. In the future everything will be much easier, the main thing is to do everything correctly. Prepared bones, before they fall into the ground, must undergo some training.

  1. Seeds must be decontaminated from the effects of fungi, hydrogen peroxide solution. The ratio of peroxide and water is 1:10. It is enough to dip the bones in the solution and remove.
  2. Next, take a saucer or any other container, cover it with a soft cloth. Wrap the seeds in it. Moisten well with cloth. Every day, ensure that it is wet. Pour heavily with water is not necessary, from the overabundance of moisture seeds rot.
  3. If the germination process seems tedious, you can immediately sow bones in wet soil. In case the seeds do not sprout, this option will not work.
Depth of seeding mandarin seeds 1-2 cm
  1. In a few days the seeds will pass over.. At this point, you will need to prepare the ground for their landing. It is better to prefer light non-acidic soil. Land composition can be bought ready or cook it yourself. On 1 part of sand take 2 parts of the earth and humus. Well suited land taken in the forest belt.
  2. Small pick pot. Put there bones. Planting depth of 1-2 cm. Weak sprouts can always be removed. Strong - transplanted.
  3. Some practice growing seedlings in disposable cups. This method has the right to life, but it is better to take peat or flower pots. In a glass, moisture evaporates worse.
  4. Water as the soil demands, it should always be wet.
  5. Loosen the soiluntil the plant is well rooted, not necessary.
  6. To sprout tangerines grow quickly, you need to provide additional lighting. This is especially true of the winter period when natural lighting will not be enough.

By the number of shoots it is possible to judge how high the bones were. When planting 10 seeds normal germination 3-5 seedlings . Some of the seedlings may die in the process of maturation. Natural selection will allow you to get strong shoots.

How to care for a young seedling

Care is a regular watering and spraying leaves. So that the leaves do not hurt, do not spray them with water from the tap. Let it stand at least one night. It is good to have a special watering can, in which there will be separated water.. To the roots do not rot, in the water, you can add a little potassium permanganate.

Germinated seeds of mandarin

As a preventive measure against aphids and black flies, onion peel should be placed around the plant. EIf the pests have started, the sapling is washed with water infused with garlic, laundry soap or salt. Midges can live on the surface of the soil. It will need to loosen.

Inoculation of indoor plants

In order for the citrus tree to bear fruit, it is necessary to inoculate the cutting from varietal mandarin. Sections are made disinfected with a sharp instrument. At the time of grafting, the young tree should be as thick as a pencil. Methods of vaccination set, choose the most convenient option:

  • T-shaped graft using a shallow notch under the bark,
  • grafting at a sharp angle, the cut is attached to the cut on the tree,
  • V-shaped incision It is done in the center of the wilderness, a twig is inserted inside.
Grafting Mandarin

Graft need to quickly and accurately. The site of vaccination tightly bandaged and covered with garden pitch. To ensure a comfortable plant after the graft, you can cover it with a transparent bag or a glass jar. You can use growth stimulants.

A rooted and grafted tree, being on the southern side with sufficient irrigation and fertilizer application, will delight you with an abundance of tangerines. Enlisting tips on growing, you can safely start planting. As experience shows, it turns out that everyone can grow a tangerine from a stone.

How to plant a mandarin from a seed at home

Growing tangerine is not a difficult and exciting activity. Do it with your child, it is very interesting to grow your tangerine tree!

What do we do?

  • Soil preparation
  • Seed preparation and planting
  • Care
  • Pest and disease control
  • How to grow a house with mandarin fruit?
  • Graft
  • Video about grafting mandarin

1. Soil preparation

Mandarins do not like dry, sour land. Therefore, we try to avoid getting peat into the ground. Purchased mixtures are almost always with peat. Read the composition and choose the land without peat. The best composition can be prepared by yourself.

  • 2 pieces of humus,
  • 2 pieces of forest land
  • 1 part of sand

Not everyone can do it at home, the main thing is that the earth was light, well let in water and air. If the land is ready, prepare the seeds.

2. Seed preparation and planting

Although I do not like customized seeds, but still soak mandarin seeds for better germination. You can put them in a damp cloth for a couple of days, put them in a warm place. Do not fill it with water, but make sure that the fabric is always wet and does not dry out.

Here our seeds are well swollen, and maybe sprouts have appeared, we are preparing a pot. The size of 4 liters is necessary for the grown sapling, but it is possible to sow while in the cups, then to transfer to a larger volume.

As for any flower, a drainage should be put on the bottom - a layer of pebbles, shards, and nuts. Then we fill it with earth and plant seeds to a depth of about 4 cm.

We plant several pieces at once, up to a dozen.

First, not everyone will grow if there is no proper care. Secondly, if you decide to plant a twig of a varietal mandarin on it, it is better to have a few bushes for the experiment. Grafts are not often successful the first time, the tree may die.

Before germination, we keep pots in a warm place, we monitor the humidity. Then we transfer the sprouts to a bright warm place, not lower than 20 ° С - the mandarin does not like the heat-loving southern plant and does not like the cold.

Semi-annual sapling of mandarin

Young, and adult tangerine trees do not like dry air and dry land. They need to be sprayed frequently with water, as in the apartments in the winter dry air and wipe the leaves from dust. Watering as necessary, pour too harmful.

A tangerine tree can grow at home for many years. Every year it needs to be transplanted by transshipment into a larger pot. And after eight years, in a year.

For the health of your pet, it is important to notice pests on time.

4. Pest and disease control

Red ticks, aphids, flies may appear on the mandarin. There are different biological products, "green soap", or prepare an infusion of garlic, onion peel. Chemistry at home is better not to use. It is not needed if you notice the disorder with mandarins on time.

Rinse the entire plant thoroughly, arrange a real “bathhouse” for it. You can put the pot in the bathroom or sink, and not sparing the solutions, wash all the leaves and the trunk from pests. Because simply spraying will give nothing.

Read more recipes for preparing solutions for controlling plant pests here.

Flies usually breed in constantly wet ground, do not pour in mandarin, constantly loosen the ground, let the top layer dry up.

Also, from over-wetting, young mandarins can get sick with a black leg and die.

5. How to grow a house with mandarin fruit?

No vaccinations in any way. From the bone that we plant from mandarin grow wild. With beautiful shiny green leaves, which if you rub, smell great citrus. Maybe it will even bloom for 3-5 years and it will have a small green mandarin fruit. That is, as a decorative flower, mandarin grows well at home with many people.

Such beauty can be grown at home!

6. Vaccination

Need to find a friend or buy a fresh stalk of varietal mandarin. If you cannot graft it right away, store it in a bag in the bottom shelf of the refrigerator so that it does not dry out.

All operations are done with a sharp clean (disinfected) instrument. There are different types of cuts, as for any fruit trees. Which one is more convenient for you to choose.

The graft is made on a young tree as thick as a pencil. You can plant a bud and cutting. There are many different ways, you can make a T-shaped shallow incision on your wilderness, and insert a graft there almost under the bark. At the graft - the stalk needs to be cut at a sharp angle, try to make the cut completely fit into our cut.

You need to work quickly and clearly, like a surgeon in an operation. Think and cook everything in advance. Потом место прививки замазываем садовым варом и забинтовываем фумлентой, которую используют в сантехнике или скотчем.

Желательно растение накрыть после прививки — сделать ему мини-тепличку. Может это выглядеть примерно как на фото.

Mandarin after vaccination

After a month, you can remove the film, when a new branch begins to grow, we remove the bandage.

I do not have an article about vaccinations, I suggest to watch the video.

7. Video about grafting mandarin

A method of grafting rotape on thin twigs is shown. This method is also suitable for thicker branches, as long as they are of the same diameter.

When the graft goes to growth, we cut the wilder above the graft and cover it with garden pitch.

Tangerine from the bone - analyze the difficulties

Before you decide to grow a tangerine from a stone, you need to think: how much are you willing to work to achieve a result, and what exactly do you want from the tree you grow - just decorative or even fruit? Are you ready to wait? Tangerine from the bone grows quite slowly. Do you agree to experiment? In order for the plant to bloom, it will take more than one year, and there are often cases that the mandarin does not bloom at all, then you will need to help it.

In addition, if a mandarin grown from a stone gives fruit, they are not similar to those from which the seed is taken (for the variety to repeat it is necessary to propagate it vegetatively - by cuttings, grafts). However, what happens, in any case, pleasantly surprised!

What seeds to plant?

For planting mandarin is best to take the bones of the many hybrids offered today for sale. They sprout faster, bloom earlier, in most cases, give edible fruits and are easier to take root. It is very simple to distinguish them from real tangerines: the real ones do not have bones in the fruits, or very few of them, and the hybrids are always with bones.

Selected seeds should not be thin, as if drained, deformed or with a blackened tip. It is good that the mandarin seed is at least five, since not all will germinate, and if the plants are planned for grafting, at least ten, because grafting is not always possible.

Cooking the land and pick up the pot

The next task is the preparation of the substrate. It should not be peat, as the mandarin does not like sour soil. Therefore, the substrate is either bought at the store, marked pH = 6.5-7 (neutral soil), or made independently, mixing two parts of well-rotted humus, two parts of forest land (from under deciduous trees) and one part of sifted river sand. If there is no humus, you can just take a non-acidic soil and sand.

Now you need to pick up the capacity for landing. The first pots for young tangerines are quite capable of becoming plastic cups with a volume of 200 ml, a bowl, a depth of at least 7-9 cm (with a drainage hole required) or small pots.

Planting mandarin seeds

For all citrus fruits, there is a single rule: the faster the seed from the fruit gets into the soil, the higher its germination rate. Therefore, having eaten a tangerine, it is not necessary to dry its bones, it is necessary to immediately place them in the ground, prikopav to a depth of 4 cm.

If, for some reason, the seeds of the mandarin could not be planted immediately, then in order to speed up the germination process a little, they are recommended to be soaked for several days. At the same time, the dishes in which they will lie should be flat, the cloth should be damp but not filled with water, the place should be warm, but not in the sun. To keep the rag in which the mandarin bones are wrapped, do not dry out, the saucer can be placed in a plastic bag, slightly cover it, but not tie it.

From sowing to germination

It is impossible to say in advance how long it will take the bone to germinate and sprout. In some cases it is 15 days, but more often - about a month. In any case, it is important to monitor soil moisture and air temperature before germination, which should not fall below +20 ° C and exceed +25 ° C. At the same time, it is not recommended to place pots in a mini greenhouse, tangerines sprout so well, and plants grown in greenhouse conditions will then need to be accustomed to the conditions of the room.

Mandarin seedlings transplantation

If the mandarin seeds are not planted in separate pots, but all together in a bowl, with the appearance of four leaves (it is believed that citrus fruits do not have cotyledon leaves), it is time to transplant them into separate cups. From the resulting seedlings, the most powerful are selected, and the weak and deformed are culled, producing stronger and more capable plants for growth and development.

Sometimes it happens that two sprouts grow from one mandarin bone (in citrus fruits there is a plurality of seeds). In this case, you can do in two ways: either pin a weaker plant, or plant sprouts in different pots - usually each of them has its own root system.

The next tangerine transplant should be oriented towards the development of the roots: as soon as the roots take up the entire volume of the cup, the plant is transferred to a more spacious pot. But immediately planting a sapling in a large volume of land is not highly recommended, because in this case, there is often a waterlogging of the soil, which significantly inhibits the plant.

Young tangerine trees are transplanted annually. Fruiting - once every 2-3 years, increasing the diameter of the pot not by 1, but by 4-6 cm. When planting, it is important to take care not to bury the root neck.

Old plants and large specimens of mandarin are not transplanted, but every few years they carefully remove the top layer of soil in a pot, replacing it with a new, fertile one.

Mandarin Formation

Mandarin - from those plants that often have to form. The first pinching (if he did not start branching himself) is done to him when the seedling reaches a height of 30-40 cm. This technique makes the tree start up side shoots of the first order. But for flowering this is not enough, because the mandarin fruits only on the branches of the 4-5th order. Therefore, pinching is continued, removing the tips of all the shoots after 4-5 leaves, as well as weak shoots and those that grow inside the crown. In general, the formation takes 3-4 years.

But in order to force branches of the first order to branch, you can take a different path - to deflect the shoots by fixing. This method is more laborious, but interesting enough. For its implementation, one end of the wire is fixed on a branch, and the other is fixed with a hairpin at the edge of the pot so that the mandarin escapes are bent closer to the parallel position relative to the ground.

Mandarin care at home

Care for tangerine trees varies somewhat depending on their age and purpose. If the specimen is young (up to 5 years) or grown exclusively for green foliage, it needs regular watering (the soil should be kept wet, but not flooded), spraying (fairly frequent) and plenty of light (with shading in the summer from the bright midday sun and backlit in winter days).

In the warm months, the tree can be carried out on the air (gradually accustoming) to a place protected from the wind. Once a month mandarin is useful to arrange a warm shower.

Like other citrus fruits, mandarin tends to turn the leaves to the main light source. Therefore, for a more uniform formation of the crown, it can be rotated around its axis. But this should be done no more than 10 ° C at a time and no more than once every two weeks, because citrus fruits do not like permutations and can react negatively to them.

If the mandarin began to bloom, then, in addition to the usual care, it needs a period of winter dormancy, at a temperature of + 10..12 ° C with less frequent irrigations (it is necessary to allow the ground to dry out a little), a smooth rise in temperature in the spring and optimum temperature for the formation buds (in the range of + 16..18 ° C). As well as moderate heat in summer - no higher than +25 ° C (at higher temperatures, the flowers can crumble) and gentle spraying (water should not fall on the flowers).

Since tangerines are sown for about 6 months, many people have a question: should the tree rest in the winter or dostaschivat it with a lamp so that the fruits ripen? The answer is to arrange. Even under conditions of + 10..12 ° C, the mandarins are slowly ripening.

Feeding mandarin

Small tangerines do not feed, they simply roll over into a larger pot. But older plants need to begin to fertilize from the beginning of spring growth until autumn. This should be done with a special fertilizer for citrus fruit or mullein infusion (1:10 with water) every two weeks. Suitable for dressings and chicken manure (tincture 1:20 diluted at the rate of 1:20 with water).

If the tree is planned to transplant, feeding mandarin stop at least three days before the event. After transshipment, fertilizers are returned no earlier than 2 weeks later. In winter, tangerines do not feed.

The first fruiting mandarins

In the fruiting mandarin grown from the stone, enters the 5th-6th year. Its fruits do not repeat exactly the maternal variety in taste and may differ from it in size, sweetness, aroma, but not only in the direction of deterioration of these qualities (as is commonly believed), but also in the direction of improvement (here - as lucky as anyone).

In this case, the first fruiting still does not fully reveal all the characteristics of the plant obtained from the seeds. Therefore, if the mandarin has bloomed and tied fruit, it must provide the most attractive conditions so that the tree can manifest itself with repeated fruiting.

How to make mandarin blossom?

Well, if the mandarin blooms itself. And if not? In this case, it can be stimulated for this. It is necessary to take the copper wire and wrap it tightly with the base of the mandarin trunk so that it is pressed into the bark. This will disrupt the sap flow and make the plant “think” about the offspring - to bloom. After six months, the wire must be removed, and the wounded place treated with garden pitch - it will quickly recover.

However, the method will not work if the mandarin does not have a crown and does not have a rest period. Therefore, before embarking on an experiment, it is necessary to help the tree to grow branches of the 4th and 5th order and go through a cold wintering place.

Vaccination mandarin

Another way to get the fruit from a mandarin sapling is to plant it. To do this, it is necessary to grow stock (mandarin from the bone) to the thickness of the trunk with a diameter of a simple pencil (about 6 mm) and find a graft - a small segment of the shoot, taken from a varietal mandarin, or rather, a kidney (peephole) with a leaf stalk.

At a height of 7 cm from the soil on the bark of the rootstock, it is very sharp, preferably with a special budding knife, to make an incision in the shape of the letter “T” in such a way as not to cut through the wood. The length of the incision should be about 2.5 cm, the upper web (cap of the letter “T”) is about 1 cm. Insert the cut mandarin bud (with leaf petiole) into the bent ends of the bark (push them back with a knife) and press it back. Treat all garden pitch and wrap tightly with blue tape, leaving the petiole out. Place the grafted plant in the greenhouse of the package.

If the mandarin vaccination was successful - the kidney will take root within three weeks, the leaf stalk will turn yellow and will easily disappear. If the vaccination has failed, the stem will turn black.

In case of success, the greenhouse begins to be a little gradually aired, gradually increasing the time of the sessions. One month after the emergence from the new bud of the shoot, the stem of the mandarin stock is cut with shears at a height of at least 5 mm from the site of inoculation, obliquely. The bandage is removed. The cut is treated with a garden bar.

Mandarin care during flowering / fruiting

In the flowering and fruiting phase, mandarin needs more phosphate and potash fertilizers than nitrogen. Watering should be regular, but not excessive. When the plant blooms, it must continue to spray, but in such a way that the water does not fall on the flowers.

In most cases, the mandarin sheds excess flowers and ovary, self-regulating the load. If this does not happen, he needs to be helped by removing the extra flowers and tangerines, leaving one fruit on the plant for every 15-20 leaves.

If ripening mandarins burst, then the plant is watered irregularly, or experiencing an excess of nitrogen. To Mandarin laid flower buds, he necessarily needs winter rest.

Mandarin Pests

It is noticed that, grown from a stone, mandarin is much more resistant to environmental influences and pests than those that can be bought in the store. But, unfortunately, he has malicious enemies. Most of them are afraid of ultraviolet radiation and high humidity, so observing good plant conditions is at the same time a preventive measure against them. Who is it? Spider mite, scab, mealybug, and more - aphid.

Spider mite

With a size of only 0.3-0.6 mm, it is almost not visible to the human eye. But it can be calculated by the presence of small bright dots on the underside of the leaves of the plant and the presence of the thinnest cobweb. If a tick is detected, the fight against it must be immediate.

The first thing to start with is to thoroughly wash the plant with warm running water using laundry soap. Then it is necessary several times with an interval (7-10 days) to spray a tangerine Fitoverm, Intavir, Aktelik or other insecticide.

It is a convex oval-shaped plate with a size of only 4 mm. The main sign of its presence is a sticky syrup-like bloom that appears on the leaves of the plant. If the pest is not destroyed - the tree is quickly exhausted and dries out.

You can try to cope with the shield by treating mandarin with a soap solution with the addition of kerosene: for 1 liter of water 5 g of soap and 10 g of kerosene. Spray up to two times a week.

But more effective treatment (from 3 to 5 times with an interval of 15 days) insecticides Aktara, Fitoverm or other, which can always be found on sale. However, after such treatment, the fruit from the tree cannot be eaten and it is necessary to change the top layer of earth in the pot.

It is quite simple to detect: the pest resembles a white fluffy plaque scattered around the plant in the form of small dots, with a diameter of 3 to 6 mm. You can manually fight the insect by carefully collecting individuals using insecticides such as Karbofos, Decis, Intavira, or infusion of soap and garlic (2 cloves of garlic per 0.5 liter of boiling water to insist 4 hours).

Practically everyone is familiar with this pest: from 1 to 3 mm long, light green in color, it multiplies rapidly, lives in colonies. The harm of aphids is that it sucks the juices from young shoots and mandarin leaves, deforming them and depleting the plant.

In the fight against it, they use repeated (at an interval of 5-7 days) washing the plant with a solution of soap, spraying garlic infusion (1 head of finely chopped garlic per glass of water, leave for 2 days), tobacco infusion (40 g per 1 l of water).

Yellowing and Falling of Foliage

This problem may have different causes. It is important not to hurry, carefully analyze the condition of the plant and make the correct diagnosis. In adult mandarins, leaves may turn yellow and fall due to their old age. But at the same time the tree itself looks healthy and develops normally.

The overall lightening of the foliage may indicate a lack of plant lighting. In this case, you need to take care to rearrange the mandarin closer to the light, or arrange it artificial lighting.

Mandarin leaves can be discharged due to too dry air (in the absence of regular spraying, especially during the heating season), improper transplantation (when the root neck is deep, choosing a too large pot volume), drafts. If you find one of these reasons, they just need to be eliminated.

Drying and dropping of the lower leaves of the mandarin, despite the fact that the leaf begins to dry from the tip, is associated with regular waterlogging of the soil. This phenomenon occurs either as a result of excessive care, or because of a too large pot in relation to the seedling. In any case, the plant must be transplanted into the appropriate pot with fresh loose (breathable) soil, after removing the rotten roots.

If yellowing began from the bottom of the crown and extends to the top - this indicates a lack of nitrogen. In this case, the mandarin must be fed with nitrogen fertilizers.

The light yellow color of the young leaves of the mandarin, which gradually passes over to the old leaves, indicates chlorosis (iron deficiency). Here will help the processing of iron chelate.

Mandarin leaves fall for no apparent reason - the plant may be lacking potassium. In this case, it is necessary to feed potassium nitrate.

Interesting facts about mandarin

It is important to know that young tangerines often produce quite long spines - you don’t need to do anything with them!

In winter, citrus, growing foliage, often form sheet plates of a larger size than in spring and summer.

In farms, citrus fruit trees are produced by grafting. If you want to feast on juicy tangerines, you can perform this procedure yourself. At home, you can prepare the seeds and grow them tangerine tree, not forgetting to follow all the rules of care. The easiest way is to buy a ready-made seedling.

Buying a ready seedling

Having decided to grow a home tangerine at home, buy a ready-to-get seedling at a specialized online store of garden crops or nursery nursery. Often sell plants that have a closed root system, i.e. immediately in an earthen coma or a pot packed in a bag. In the first case, a mandatory transfer to a container is required. If you are looking for a more economical option, it is best to use the second method, i.e. growing a citrus tree from the bone of a ripe fruit.

Ground for tangerine tree

Prepare a pot or a regular box for seedlings, and fill it with a layer of soil to transplant the sunflower seeds there. Despite the fact that indoor mandarin is unpretentious in relation to the ground, experts still strongly recommend that you take this moment seriously. It is best to use a mixture consisting of:

  • 1 piece of leafy ground
  • 3 parts of turf soil,
  • 1 part rotten cow dung,
  • clay
  • sand.

How to plant a tangerine in a pot

To grow a decorative mandarin, do not use peat, which often sours, dries quickly and does not have special nutritional properties. This component is available in almost all those mixtures that can be bought in specialized stores. Do not forget about the drainage layer. Put a dry clay or small regular pebbles on the bottom of the container, then fill the pot with the composition of the above components. Then place the swollen bones in the ground at a depth of 5-7 cm. The seed pot should be placed in a well-lit area.

Soil drainage

For the formation of a lush and bright bush will need to pay attention to the drainage capacity in which it will grow. As already mentioned, lay crushed stone on the bottom of the pot, fine pebbles of expanded clay, but if you don’t have any of the above on hand, use fragments of ceramic dishes. Before planting tangerine and laying the soil, be sure to thoroughly flush the drainage. In general, it is necessary so that excess fluid from the soil is discharged into the pan. Due to this, effective prevention of stagnant fluid and root rot is carried out.

Where to place a flower pot with escape

Caring for tangerine at home requires a competent approach, of particular importance is the location of the tree, which will delight you with its beautiful leaves and flowers. The conditions of the beginning of flowering and the growth activity will depend on the conditions created. The houseplant needs bright and good lighting. When daylight will be shortened, add artificial light. Do not make a sharp transition, because The plant can shed its young leaves.

How to care for a tangerine tree

Actively growing and beautiful tangerine tree is the result of systematic and proper care. For indoor ornamental plants, you must create a comfortable environment with a certain temperature and humidity level. We should not forget the same about the features of irrigation, because in a difficult situation, a shrub can shed its leaves to reduce the amount of moisture evaporated from the surface. When the branches start to bear fruit, they need to be tied to a support. We should not forget about possible pests and diseases.

Air temperature and humidity

The best temperature for a tangerine seedling is a temperature of + 15-18 degrees in the warm season and +12 degrees in the winter. In hotter weather, the plant begins to bear fruit and bloom worse - buds and ovaries at this time are formed weakly. It is important to avoid sudden changes in temperature, but in order for the plant to become stronger, it must be hardened, i.e. help him adapt to changes in lighting and temperature conditions. To do this, in the spring afternoon, take the plant for a short time to a covered veranda or balcony.

Very important for mandarin and humidity. On hot dry days and in winter, when the heating dries the air in the room, it is often necessary to spray an ornamental plant — sometimes up to three times a day. You can put a bowl of water on the windowsill or some other humidifier, for example, an imitation of a fountain, a waterfall. When the bush begins to bloom, spray carefully to avoid moisture on the flowers and buds. It is better to replace this procedure with regular rubbing of leaves.

Without enough light, a decorative room mandarin will not grow big. The easiest way is to put the container with the plant on the window sill of the southern part of the house, but this is fraught with burns of leaves. A more acceptable option is the side of the east or southeast windows. If the southern side turns out to be the only possible choice, then in spring and summer you will have to plant a plant. In winter, the southern window will be the best place for a sapling. When shortening the daylight, add artificial light using special phytolamps.

How to water indoor tangerine

The tree needs regular and frequent watering. In hot weather, water 2-3 times a day. In the winter period of the year, while maintaining good moisture is sufficient to be 2-time watering per week. It is better to pour the water for this procedure into a container, for example, in a bottle, so that it can stand and warm up to room temperature.

With a short-term lack of moisture tangerine tree will not die, but it can throw off part of the leaves or all the foliage. Fresh greens will not appear on “bald” places, so try to avoid unexpected leaf fall. Leaves will appear only on new branches. Frequent transfusions of plants with water will not benefit; this will lead to fungal diseases.

How to feed a tangerine tree at home

The whole growing season, i.e. From April to September, the tree needs feeding. Every week it must be fertilized with organic or mineral fertilizers, which can be alternated. In particular, mature trees that grow in tight containers need it, and without transplants and soil renewal. In one week, the plant can be watered with a solution of liquid mullein, and after a week - treated with garden complex fertilizer specifically designed for citrus trees. Before feeding should pour the soil.

Mineral mixtures based on potassium phosphorus and nitrogen

In the specialized garden shop you can buy ready-made composition for citrus. Make sure that the solution includes minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen. It is recommended to conduct dressing in the morning. The temperature of the solution should not be less than +20 degrees. Accurately follow the recommended nutrient solution formulation. The rule here is that it is better not to pour than to pour. Excessive concentration, excess fertilizer can burn the stem or leaves and even kill the plant.

Organic fertilizer

Tangerine tree can be fed with both mineral and organic fertilizers, and it is best to alternate them. To prepare a natural nutrient composition, you will need cow dung or bird droppings. Dilute part of the dry component in 10-12 parts of water, draw the resulting composition for 2 to 4 days, then add it in small portions. Soil before this, be sure to remember to moisten.

Household Mandarin Care Rules

In order for your tangerine tree to be as bright and pleasing to the eye as in the photo of one of the magazines about gardening, give special attention to caring for it. Many of the above rules for plant seedlings also apply to grown trees. Additionally, it is necessary to periodically trim the branches and pinch the tips of the shoots. In addition, remove from the tree all dried twigs, leaves and sprouts stretched down. Such measures will help to form a compact mandarin with a fluffy and dense crown. Do not forget about the need for transplanting.

Partial removal of flowers

In order to avoid unnecessary load on the tree in the first years of fruiting, it is recommended to pinch the flowers. Leave only a few flowers on the trunk of the tangerine tree. In this way, fragrant and large fruits can be achieved without depleting the plant itself. Suppose there are only a few beautiful and fragrant flowers on the stem of a plant, but later you will enjoy beautiful and large fruits.

Pinching the tops of the twigs

As the tree grows, it is necessary to periodically pinch the tips of the shoots. This is necessary in order for the tree to form a dense and lush crown. With proper formation, it will turn into a real decoration of the room. This can be achieved by controlling the growth of the tops and shoots, which must be removed from time to time, i.e. to pinch. When each new sprout appears, pinch the tops when forming 5-6 leaves. It is also necessary to get rid of wolves (strong shoots), which grow rapidly from the root itself.

Removal of stretched branches and dried leaves

Remove sprouting twigs, dried leaves in a timely manner so that your exotic tree grows really lush and fruitful. Often homemade mandarin try to grow as a bonsai. For this purpose, remove the growing tips of the shoots to the desired length. As a result, your labors will not be in vain - you will receive tasty fruits with a thin peel, easily separated from the pulp.

Why mandarin sheds leaves

If the basic rules for leaving the mandarin tree are not observed, diseases arise. Do not ignore the threat that various pests can pose. These include red spider mites, scale insects, citrus whiteflies. Dropping leaves does not always indicate the presence of the disease, because this can happen during a period of relative rest on cold days.

What to do

If the cause of dropping the foliage became pests, then wipe all the leaves of the tree with special solutions. A few procedures will be enough to get rid of all unwanted "guests". Yellowing the leaves can be a signal that the plant lacks minerals. During nitrogen deficiency, yellowing begins with the lower leaves. In addition, the mandarin can react so the lack of the right amount of moisture, lack of light. Move the plant to a well-lit area and do not forget to water regularly.

Methods of reproduction of tangerine tree

The most economical way to get a mandarin sapling is to grow it from a seed. This approach will take you a lot of time and patience. If the tree already exists, and you want to get offspring from it, then choose one of the following methods:

  • Reproduction by layering, which are well-formed tree branches. Choose a branch from an adult mandarin that is 4 mm thick and long enough to bend the branch and pin it to the ground. It is not necessary to separate a branch from a bush, just prikopite it with the earth. The top will act on the surface of the soil. Keep primitive site wet. When new roots are formed on a layer, separate the branch from the parent plant.
  • Reproduction is carried out by cutting. For this purpose, the so-called air layouts are used - the stalk is rooted “by weight”. An adult sprout is incised around, cutting off a bark about 1 cm wide, after which it is treated with a wound, wrapped with moss with sphagnum and polyethylene (loosely). Maintain the resulting "pupa" must be wet before the formation of roots - it will take several months.

How to transplant mandarin at home

The plant begins to need a transplant when the capacity becomes tight. For young mandarins, this procedure should be carried out annually, and for trees from 7 years old - once every two years. Do not replant the plant during flowering, it is better to do this in early spring. A new pot should be several centimeters larger in diameter than the previous one. The root neck during transplantation should not be deepened, because bark may be damaged. The excess bud is crushed, and then transferred to a new tank with drainage and soil.
