Despite the fact that this plant has such an ambiguous name, in its medicinal properties it surpasses many well-known modern medicines. His name is cocky. Medicinal properties and contraindications of this herb have been known for a long time. In medicine, all parts are used. This is due to the fact that beneficial substances are contained in the whole plant. For example, its leaves contain an enormous amount of various chemical compounds: alkaloids, xanthostrumarin, iodine, and ascorbic acid. Seeds also contain iodine, tar, fatty oils.

Two types of plants that are actively used in traditional medicine can be attributed to the Astrov family, and specifically to the genus Durnishnikovy:

  • Cocklebur prey (ordinary) lat. Xanthium strumarium.
  • Dormish needle (prickly) Latin. Xanthium spinosum.

Plants and the first and second species are actively used not only in traditional medicine, but also as separate extracts that make up medical preparations. At the moment, in any pharmacy you can find drugs, which includes cocklebur. Medicinal properties and contraindications of this plant are fully studied, so there are no problems in choosing for themselves the necessary drug.

Botanical features

As for the botanical features of plants, the first and second species is an erect annual grass that can often be found in fields, dumps and along roads. As for the ordinary cock, it has a pubescent reddish and branched stem. Its leafy cover has a heart-shaped structure, the fruits themselves have spines, due to which the subsequent dispersal of the species to nearby territories takes place.

Despite the fact that this plant has a large number of biologically active compounds, in fact it is poisonous, so its use in traditional medicine should be based solely on its own solid knowledge in botany and medicine, supported by the relevant education certificate.

Xanthium spinosum

Durishnik prickly has a slightly different appearance, therefore, most likely, it will not work to confuse them. Its leaves are elongated and elongated, in the lower part of the notched stem - tripartite. Durishnik prickly has this name because of the presence of needles, which are located almost at the very base. As for the chemical composition, it is almost identical to the ordinary, and the application is also similar. In order to prepare for themselves the medicine from this plant, they use not only leaves, but also seeds, and even roots. In this case, we must not forget that the plant of this species is also poisonous, so if you do not know anything about the exact dosage, then it is best to enlist the help of specialists.

During flowering, cut off the upper part of the plant, which is located above the ground. Seeds are harvested during their ripening, and the roots - only in the fall. Grass Durishnik will be useful only if it is properly collected, stored and prepared.

As for the stem of the plant and the leaves, immediately after harvesting them during the flowering period, it is necessary to lay them out on an ordinary newspaper under a canopy, preferably in a dark place. After this raw material has dried, it should be stored only in a dry room, preferably in paper and canvas bags. Shelf life is 3 years, after this time the plant loses its healing properties.

Plant benefits

The grass has a very strong blood purifying effect. Also, studies show that there is also the ability to suppress the activity of cancer cells, the removal of spasms of smooth muscle muscles is noted, thanks to which the plant is actively used in the treatment of asthma attacks.

In addition, in folk medicine and as one of the components of the drug, the grass cockle is used as an anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, diaphoretic agent for the treatment of not only many skin diseases, but also internal organs, as well as for:

Cockpit comes from the Astro family of Astrotsvetnyh order. Its appearance has specific features that distinguish the plant from its kind. The stem is straight and hard with a red or gray shade and lots of hairs. Dorishnik reaches a height of significant size - more than one and a half meters.

The leaves grow in the shape of a heart and have up to five leaf-like large-toothed blades with petioles. This part of the plant grows up to 10 cm in length and above the green color, and below the light green. Durish flowers form spike-shaped axillary inflorescences consisting of monoecious heads.
