The closest relative of Chinese cabbage and one of the oldest known vegetable crops in the world is Chinese cabbage pak-choi (another name is bok choi). In Asian cooking, it has been very popular for many years. This useful vegetable is quite possible to grow in the country.

What is cabbage pak choi

This is an annual cruciferous plant, although there are also two-year varieties. A distinctive feature of how Chinese cabbage grows is that it does not have a developed rhizome. It forms a kind of rosette of leaves from 30 to 70 cm tall. There are two main types of this vegetable - with green and white petiole. The culture is frost-resistant and early, and the two-year-old is also prone to the formation of arrows in the second year. What does Chinese cabbage look like?

Cabbage roots are immersed in the ground no more than 15 cm. It can be grown in a greenhouse at any time of the year, outdoors only in summer. Pereopyleniya plants can occur exclusively with the Beijing "relative". Chinese kale - a storehouse of vitamins and minerals, as well as, like all vegetables, contains a lot of fiber. This is an indispensable product for losing weight or people with diabetes.

It is also necessary to grow Chinese cabbage in the garden because it perfectly removes slags and toxins from the body, and has a general health effect due to the whole complex of vitamins. Daily use of vegetables makes blood vessels more durable and elastic. Vitamin A helps renew the skin, and folic acid contributes to the proper development of the fetus in pregnant women.

Famous varieties

In vegetable farming, they mainly cultivate several varieties that are best adapted to garden conditions:

  1. Vesnyanka. The most precocious leaf variety - seedlings appear within a few days, and in less than a month you can eat fresh leaves.
  2. Lebedushka. The term of its full maturation is 40 days or a little more. Differs large (up to 40 cm in diameter) upright outlet. White 35-centimeter scapes make up the bulk of the plant. Very unpretentious variety, adapts well to difficult climatic conditions.
  3. Alenushka. It has a massive petiole and an impressive rosette of leaves. It is considered the most delicious variety.
  4. Peahen. Hybrid, which is the result of the interbreeding of Chinese and Chinese cabbage. Its main advantage is an unusually juicy and crisp cutting. It can be planted at any time, as it is resistant to stem formation. In addition, Pava looks beautiful and long stored after collection.
  5. Chinese cabbage Swallow. Mid-season variety, ripening which is about 2 months.

Growing cabbage pak choi

In order for the vegetable to germinate better, the soil must be light and saturated with oxygen. As a rule, the seeds are planted at the end of March, but for this, there must be a high temperature outside, or the planting should be done at home. The most convenient way to plant Chinese cabbage pak choi for growing every two weeks.

Once the seedlings acquire five sheets, it can be transplanted into permanent soil, but remember that it does not take root well. For this reason, many recommend sowing cabbage immediately to the garden bed. It is necessary to replant very carefully, along with a clod of earth.

On the ridge of the plant is planted in rows, at least 30 cm apart. If these are seeds, then they are safely covered with a film, soon after that the first shoots will appear.

If possible, planting can be treated with ordinary wood ash, which scares cruciferous flea dangerous for any cabbage.

It is recommended to prepare the land for planting in the fall - to dig, fertilize. It is best to make organic fertilizers in the calculation of 10 l / m2. You can also add a small amount of lime and superphosphate fertilizers. With the onset of spring, the ridge should be wrapped with foil so that they can quickly thaw and be ready for planting.

Plant Care

Chinese cabbage, cultivation and care for which are quite simple, requires certain rules for watering. Watering is necessary regularly until the seedlings are well acclimatized in the garden. In the future, watering is necessary only in drought conditions, when precipitation does not fall longer than two weeks. In this case, the calculation is as follows: for 1 m² of land you need to pour out 20 liters of water at room temperature or slightly warmer.

To improve the harvest of Chinese cabbage planted in open ground, you need to spud carefully.

It is best to spud 3 weeks before harvest.

The plant from time to time forms arrows and flowers, this is especially noticeable with an increase in the length of daylight. Therefore, some experienced agronomists recommend planting a vegetable not earlier than in mid-July. Also, to feed and preserve moisture, you can enclose each plant with compost or hay.

Pest control

Carefully it is necessary to monitor the appearance of cruciferous flea on a vegetable. These insects are able to destroy the entire crop in a short time. Preventive measure can be timely loosening and competent watering. From time to time in the morning you can mulch Chinese cabbage with ash or tobacco extract.

The solution prepared from household soap and wood ash is also quite effective.

Other solutions that are easy to prepare at home: tomato leaves + garlic, vinegar + dandelion roots, green wormwood + arrows of garlic. They can both be watered and sprayed with pak choi. In gardening stores sold and specialized drugs from cruciferous flea, which should be used according to the instructions.

Another dangerous pest is the cabbage tree. Inspect the leaves of the plant every day so as not to miss the eggs laid for her. If found, immediately eliminate and destroy them.

A garden slug can also be harmful, often attacking all the plants planted in open ground. They are destroyed with the help of bait from alcohol brew or bran. But you can simply collect snails with your hands or use special tools. Manual harvesting has an advantage over chemical treatment - harmful substances will not accumulate in the leaves.

Harvesting and Storage

Pack-choi can be collected at any stage, from germination to full maturity.

Young cabbage must be cut at 3 centimeters above the soil level, the adult - a little higher.

After cutting, cabbage does not die, but continues to grow and will soon yield again the harvest. At the end of September, the time comes to uproot it, because in rainy and cool weather the plant will not be able to fully grow.

It is not recommended to keep Chinese cabbage for a long time, because the leaves tend to lose their freshness. The exception is storage in the freezer, where the vegetable can lie through all winter without losing vitamins. You can make a lot of delicious dietary dishes from pak-choi, for example, a salad with the addition of corn, green peas or mandarin slices.

Due to its ease of care, Chinese cabbage is gaining more and more popularity every year.

Description of the Chinese guest

Chinese cabbage pak choi is more perceived as a salad vegetable or exotic greens, because it does not form heads. Moreover, due to the precocity of such a product can be consumed within a month after planting, which in the warm climate of Asia allows you to receive the crop several times a season. This culture is valued for its high content of vitamins, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and lysine, which is a powerful source of energy required for normal growth of cells, production of antibodies, enzymes, hormones and tissue repair. In addition, lysine prevents the development of cancer, which makes Pak-choi a very popular product at the dinner table.

The above-ground part of the garden plant is used as food, which is a rosette of succulent leaves of bright green color with middle, rather wide veins, connecting in an elastic base of white color. Depending on the variety, the height of the plant varies from 30 to 60 cm. The leaves are collected in a socket with a diameter of about 30 cm and are characterized by bright green color, the petioles are white.

Beneficial features

Chinese cabbage pak choi, the cultivation of which does not pose any particular difficulty, is an excellent dietary product. It is used in salads. The Chinese wonder is good as a low-calorie side dish, an independent vegetable dish, but salting is not suitable. It has a multifaceted rich taste, giving freshness and sharpness with a slight bitterness. Perfectly combined with various products, it is vaguely reminiscent of Chinese cabbage, spinach, lettuce and chard and is an excellent addition to any dish.

Cabbage pak choi can be eaten while getting rid of extra pounds and to maintain the shape. This is an excellent tool for the prevention of constipation and cleansing the intestines from cholesterol, slags and other harmful elements. Regular consumption of Chinese cabbage has a positive effect on the elasticity and strength of blood vessels. Vitamin A contained in its composition effectively affects the renewal of skin cells. Cabbage pak-choi, the preparation of which takes a minimum of time, is recommended for pregnant women, as it contains folic acid, which prevents the formation of various defects in the fetus.

Popular varieties

Being a two-year-old plant, cabbage is grown in horticulture by pak-choi as an annual crop. In temperate climates, its seeds can be sown throughout the growing season. The following varieties of cabbage pak choi are used most of all in vegetable farming:

  • Vesnyanka. Sheet variety, characterized by super-ripeness: seedlings appear after 3-4 days, after three weeks you can rejoice at the first harvest of ripe leaves. The socket is richly leafy, slightly raised, about 35 cm high.
  • Swan. Variety of average terms of ripening: 40-45 days. It has an upright outlet that is approximately 40 cm in diameter. The petioles are white, about 35 cm, about 80% of the total weight of the plant. The grade is hardy, well transfers adverse weather conditions.
  • Alenushka. It has a leaf outlet of average size, fleshy wide petiole. It is characterized by excellent taste.
  • Peahen. It is a hybrid of Peking and Chinese cabbage, characterized by juicy crispy petioles. Resistant to stalking, therefore suitable for sowing at any time. Externally, the plant is decorative and well preserved after cutting.

Growing points

Growing Chinese cabbage is somewhat different from the usual way and has its own nuances. The advantages of the product include its undemanding nature of the composition of the soil: cabbage pak choi, the cultivation and preparation of which is simple, is quite good for medium- and low-fertilized lands. The plant loves a cool climate, high humidity, fertile land, which is recommended to prepare in advance. It is best to do this in the fall: dig with simultaneous fertilization. It is good to add organic matter at the rate of 1 bucket per square meter; on the acidic lands of the garden beds, it can be enriched with wood ash: 200 grams per square meter. meter. When choosing a site for planting should take into account the predecessors, the worst of which are all types of cabbage. Indeed, in this case there is an increased risk of damage by common pests and diseases.

Sowing Chinese cabbage

Pak-choi seeds are sown from April to August, although most gardeners prefer to plant cabbages in the middle of summer - it is the July product that pleases with the greatest yields. Moreover, during this period the risk of setting flower arrows is minimal. When sown in open ground, pak-choi seeds are laid in prepared holes at a depth of 2-3 cm in accordance with the following scheme: 20-30 cm between cabbage sprouts at row spacing of 25-35 cm. The feed area of one unit is 30 * 30 cm. Small copies will be enough 20 * 20 cm.

Proper care factors

In the care, Chinese cabbage pak-choi, the cultivation of which is possible even for an inexperienced gardener, is undemanding. It is advisable to periodically loosen the soil, doing it very carefully, because the Chinese cabbage root system is located close to the soil surface. It is important to water the plants in a timely manner, without excesses: do not flood the ground, but also not allow it to dry out. The average irrigation rate in the month of August-September is 15-20 liters per square meter. Slightly more water should be consumed in the process of tying sockets.

Like any plant, cabbage pak choi, reviews of which are positive, need periodic supplements aimed at activating growth and increasing the expected yield. During the growing season, the plant is recommended to feed one or two times with a liquid herbal solution or infusion of mullein. It is important to provide fertilizing after prolonged rains.

Harvesting

The harvest of the Chinese wonder is recommended to be collected at every stage of plant development: from the appearance of sprouts to the moment of formation of the flower arrows. The grown up cabbage needs to be cut at a height of 2-3 cm above ground level, adult specimens are cut a little higher. It is desirable to use juicy greens immediately, as it is not adapted for long-term storage.

Pests and diseases

Of the pests for cabbage pak choi, cruciferous flea are not indifferent, which are particularly dangerous for young sprouts, and are capable of destroying the plant at the initial stage. The larvae gnaw through large through holes in the leaf plates, which significantly reduces the growth of the vegetative mass and the quality of the product itself. It is possible to get rid of such pests by frequent soil loosening and regular watering. If this method is ineffective, it is required to sprinkle cabbage beds every morning with extracts of tobacco or process wood ash. From chemical agents it is recommended to use an effective drug "Kinmiks" (2.5 ml per bucket of water).

The cabbage blanket is not indifferent to the overseas product, the presence of egg-layers of which can be identified by yellowish grooves. In order to avoid the massive invasion of the voracious caterpillars, the eggs found must be removed from the plant. To get rid of an unwanted pest will help the treatment of cabbage chemicals.

Cabbage pak choi is also loved by slugs and rain snails. Therefore, in order to prevent the appearance of broad, winding paths on the leaves, gnawed by such pests, the latter should be removed from the leaves.

Culture description

Pak-choi (bok-choi) - Annual (rarely two-year) plant from the cruciferous family. This variety of cabbage has no roots. Side-choy forms a rosette of leaves with a height 35-65 cm.

There are two types of plants: with white and green petioles. Side-choi belongs to the category of early and cold-resistant cultures. The two-year-old cabbage in the second year of life forms a flower arrow.

On the territory of our country are grown several varieties of cabbage pak choi. Breeders brought early and mid-season Chinese cabbage. The first category includes "Alyonushka", "Golub", "Vesnyanka", "Corolla". These cabbage varieties ripen very quickly (the growing season is 45 days).

Mid-ripening varieties include “Swan”, “Swallow”, “Chill”, “Four Seasons”, “In Memory of Popova”. The growing season of mid-ripening varieties 50-55 days.

Buck choi not particularly demanding on soil. It can even grow in an uncomfortable area. But the best place for landing will be sandy loam or light loam. The acidity of the soil should vary from 5.5 to 6.5 pH. The best predecessor is the cucumber. It is not recommended to plant pak choi in the place where last year another variety of cabbage grew.

It is also undesirable to plant a bok-choi on one place for more than two years in a row.

Planting and caring for seedlings

For growing seedlings cabbage seeds are planted in peat cups at the end of March - mid April. Soil for seedlings can be mixed with humus for better seed germination. After planting the seeds pour water (cold water is undesirable). Seedling cups are best placed in a sunny place.

Under each sprout pour a little earth, then the plant quickly forms the fourth and fifth leaves. After five leaves are formed on the seedlings, it can be planted on a previously prepared area with cups.

Planting seedlings in open ground

To seedlings pak-choi quickly got accustomed, you need spraying water regularly (2-4 times a day, spraying is carried out for 5-7 days). It is best to plant cabbage in the penumbra. Until the roots of the seedlings are strong, hot sunshine can harm it. It is better to plant seedlings in the ground in the evening or on an overcast day.

The distance between the rows of cabbage should be 25-30 cm. Dig into the soil before the first true leaflets.

Watering and soil care

Side-choi should be watered until the plant has fully taken root at the landing site (we wrote about this in the previous section). After that, water only in cases when there is no precipitation for a long time (two weeks or longer). In such cases, 15-20 liters of warm water should be poured per square meter of soil.

The plant must spud for better yield. Do it for 20-25 days before harvest.

Sprinkle the ground ash before hilling the soil. If there is a lot of weed on the plot, we need to weed it.

Top dressing Chinese cabbage

Absolutely no difficulties should arise when caring for pak-choi. The best option for feeding plants is to use the necessary organic and mineral fertilizers. You must comply with the amount of fertilizer per square meter, so as not to harm the cabbage. Otherwise, it may die or lose its taste and beneficial properties.

The same proportions of g / m² are observed when superphosphates are added. Replacing all the listed chemical fertilizers can be wood ash.

It is better to refrain from the introduction of nitrogenous fertilizers (as even if the cabbage adds growth, it will lose its taste).

Pak-choi description and product benefits

This kale is also called Chinese, because it started to cultivate it in this country. The plant forms a compact outlet of tightly adjacent leaves. The leaves of the cabbage are juicy, on top often bright green color, but at the base they are white and more fleshy. All the above-ground part of the plant can be used as food, both green leaf mass and white petioles.

There are various varieties of this cabbage, which differ in terms of ripening and size. Pak-choi can reach a height of 30-60 cm in height, and up to 30 cm in diameter of the rosette. The plant is rich in vitamins and various minerals. Beneficial effect on the body with regular consumption of food, suitable for dietary nutrition.

But besides its exceptional usefulness for the body, pak-choi is popular with gardeners also due to its:

  • good germination
  • high yields
  • precocity,
  • unpretentious care.

Features of growing

Like any crop, this cabbage has some peculiarities of cultivation that must be taken into account by the gardener. The plant prefers cool weather and high humidity. As for the predecessors, it is better not to sow the pak choi on the beds, where in previous years some kind of cabbage was planted. Well planted it after onions, legumes, pumpkin and grain crops. But to the soil, it is quite unpretentious. Of course, cabbage will grow better on fertile land, but good yields can be obtained in poorer soil.

Attention! Pak-choi does not tolerate sour soils too well. If the acidity of the soil in the place of intended planting is increased, it is better to prepare the ground in autumn by adding ash or dolomite flour to it.

Planting cabbage pak choi

You can sow cabbage in open soil from April to August. But not all this period is equally favorable for sowing pak choi. It is better to choose for planting seeds one of the following two periods:

Gardeners especially prefer to sow cabbage pak-choi in July, because when it is planted at this time, you can not only get really good yields, but also to avoid the care of the plant in the arrow as much as possible.

Pak-choi is sown in the prepared soil 2-3 cm deep into the wells with a distance between them of 20-30 cm. The distance between the rows is also better to follow at least 20-30 cm so that each plant has the necessary area for food. When planting in spring, when it is still cold enough, crops can be covered with a film or special material to protect young seedlings.

Plant care

Even a beginning gardener can easily cope with the care of a pack-choi. It is not difficult and consists of:

  • sufficient watering
  • regular soil loosening around plants
  • making feedings.

But too much to get involved in feeding this early-growing culture is still not worth it, especially the introduction of mineral fertilizers. It will be enough to feed the pack-choi once or twice with herbal infusion. Can be taken for plant nutrition and infusion of mullein.

Cabbage is watered depending on weather conditions. Watering should be sufficient, but without excess. After the rains and irrigations, the ground is loosened so that it is light and breathable. Do it carefully so as not to harm the root system of plants, which they have superficial.

With the appearance of cabbage pests need to take measures to protect plants. But since this culture is precocious, you need to use only safe means. From cruciferous flea or cabbage whiteflies, plants can be sprayed with extract of tobacco or use ashes, and it is better to remove the larvae and eggs. Manual harvesting is also effective for cabbage pests such as slugs and snails.

The use of pak choi in cooking

Pak-choi is used in the preparation of a wide variety of dishes, and in any form this cabbage is very good. It can be braised or fried with other vegetables or meat. It is used for cooking first courses. For example, very tasty, light and nutritious is chicken soup with pak-choi.

To cook this dish with 1.5 liters of water, you will need 2 chicken fillets, 6 bundles of pak-choi cabbage, 4 small potatoes and carrots, 2 stalks of celery, 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic, 1 tbsp. vegetable oil, 1-2 bouillon cubes.

  1. Chicken fillet and vegetables cut into cubes, finely chop the garlic.
  2. Put the chicken fillet in a stew for 10-15 minutes, then add potatoes, carrots, cabbage stalks and celery to the pan.
  3. Heat the oil in a pan, fry the onion and garlic in it until softened.
  4. Stir fried onions and garlic in a saucepan, then cook for about 10-15 minutes more.
  5. At the very end put the bouillon cubes, cabbage leaves and salt.

But during heat treatment, some of the vitamins of the green leaves of the pak-choi are quickly lost. Therefore, in a fresh salad, this cabbage will be much more useful. Ingredients for making fresh salads can be taken different. It already depends on the taste preferences of the person.

A very tasty salad will turn out, for example, from Bulgarian pepper, pak-choi leaves, dates, grated ginger and carrots. These ingredients need to be mixed, then season with lemon juice. If desired, you can also add a little vegetable oil, better than olive oil. The dish is light and nutritious.

Choosing what to plant in your garden, do not forget about the cabbage pak choi, because it is a tasty and healthy product. Moreover, in the care of this culture is quite simple. Even a novice in garden affairs will be able to cope with its cultivation.

More about pak choi care

Culture is prone to the formation of arrows and tsvetushnosti, so when growing you need to take into account some of the biological features of the cabbage. Arrow formation and color flow processes are usually observed with a constant lengthening of daylight hours. To avoid this, some agronomists advise do not plant pak choi before July.

For better yields, the soil around the cabbage can be mulched with rich compost or mowed grass. So it will be better to preserve moisture (this is especially necessary during dry periods of summer).

Fight against plant diseases and pests

Cruciferous fleas are the most dangerous for side-parasites. With the wrong care of the plant, they are able to destroy most of the crop. To combat the parasite should be the most frequent loosening and abundant watering. You also need to mulch the cabbage in the morning through the infusion of tobacco or wood ash.

To combat the cruciferous flea, the use of an aqueous solution based on Kinmiks is allowed. The drug is diluted in water according to the instructions and sprayed in the evening or morning.

It is necessary to inspect cabbage leaves regularly at the stage of their formation for the presence of cabbage whitefish eggs. If they are detected, you need to collect all the eggs and destroy them.

Garden slugs or rain snails also pose a serious danger to the plant in open field conditions. To combat these pests use bait based on bran or alcohol infusion. Snails can be collected manually. Effective drug to combat slugs is "Rodax".

All the above preparations should be used strictly according to the instructions - the plant is very sensitive to any changes in the soil or on its surface.

Pak-choi is able to accumulate harmful trace elements in leaflets, so it is best to avoid frequent spraying and fight pests using the manual collection method.

Growing crops at home

Currently, on the shelves of stores there are more than ten different varieties of Chinese cabbage. Among them:

Sowing of seeds produced directly in open ground, covering them with a film. It is desirable that about three of them should be placed in one well. Also practiced rassadny landing method, which is considered ready for planting at the age of 20-25 days. An important feature of the care of the culture is mandatory thinning in the phase of 1-2 true leaves at a distance of 15-20 centimeters from each other. In this case, the sockets can become especially large and lush. It is not recommended to sow too much Chinese cabbage in one place, because leaves will lose their softness and become small.

Description of cabbage pak choi

Pak-choi is an annual kale that belongs to the Cruciferous family. Also, summer residents grow two-year-old species, although in the second year of life they begin to form a flower arrow, due to which they are not in great demand.

Adult specimens do not create heads, remaining a magnificent rosette of leaves, growing to 20-60 centimeters in height. Today, two key types of cabbage are used:

  • with white petioles and dark green leaves,
  • with greenish petioles and leaves

The culture is distinguished by excellent cold resistance and high speed of crop development.

The rhizome of Chinese cabbage lies at a shallow depth (no more than 15 centimeters). Roots are relatively thin with good branching. In greenhouse conditions, the plant can be grown all year, and in the open field - only during the warm season. The composition of the soil plant does not show high requirements.

Initially, the special spread of cabbage pak choi was noticed in the countries of Southeast Asia, although after a while, the culture was brought to the European continent, where it gained special recognition. Incredible taste qualities were highly appreciated by gourmets of European cuisine, and especially, by the inhabitants of Holland, where greenhouse plant cultivation has been practiced for the whole year.

Among the most popular varieties that are ideal for home planting, gardeners distinguish Gipro F 1, Swallow, Vesnyanka.

For culinary areas, the above-ground part of cabbage is used, which is represented by a lush rosette of dense leaves with amazing taste and juiciness. To taste, Pak-choi fruits are similar to spinach, Chinese cabbage and lettuce, although our variety is characterized by richer properties and versatility of tastes.

When grown in temperate climates, they start planting in the early stages of the growing season.

Growing pak choi What diseases and pests threaten the culture

As mentioned in the description of the species, Chinese cabbage grows free in adverse climatic conditions and perfectly fights many garden pests and infections. However, the spring-planted individuals are attacked by cruciferous flea beetles, which massively infect the leaves and stop their development. To avoid such a course of events, it is enough to cover the beds with agrofibre. The method of dusting the culture with ash or a solution with ash and tobacco dust in a ratio of 1 to 1 is also excellent.

In eastern countries, pak choi is indispensable part of the daily diet and is in great demand for many centuries, while in the domestic space the species appeared relatively recently and is considered a bright novelty. Pak-choi is an annual leafy plant that looks like a lush bouquet of broad leaves with juicy, petioles tightly pressed to each other. Often in nature there are also individuals with white and green petioles.

Like other relatives, this cabbage is characterized by a high speed of fruit development and excellent yields, which is important for growing in areas with risky farming. Representatives of the variety are not afraid of low temperatures and abrupt climatic changes, and their composition contains a huge amount of vitamins, including lysine, which helps purify blood from germs and viruses. Pak-choi is an excellent way to strengthen the immune system, so the issue of growing such cabbage at home is increasingly interested in many gardeners.

Cabbage pak choi Growing at home. Preparatory stage

Growing pak choi - simple enough occupation which does not demand special skills or a wide experience. Any summer resident can start planting crops in his garden. It is enough to deal with the basic preferences of the variety and review the scheme of planting, watering and fertilizing.

When choosing a soil, preference should be given to carefully fertilized compounds with an average acidity pH of 5.5-7. The plant forms a root system for 10-15 centimeters from the surface of the earth. For spring greens to emerge as early as possible, seedlings should be sown in the second half of April, covering it with polyethylene.

If you choose a later drop-off time, the undesirable development of the arrows is not excluded. Also, this trouble manifests itself in long-term cold. However, the most productive yields are seen in the second half of the summer, from mid-July until the beginning of August. In greenhouse conditions, the maximum yield, and the state of petioles is very good.

When planting a crop in open field or in a greenhouse, keep a certain distance between each bush. The optimal rate - 25-30 centimeters. All care features consist of:

Of the pests, pak choi is exposed only to cruciferous flea and some other insects.

Sowing seeds and seedling preparation

It is better to start sowing seeds in April, although some summer residents practice summer disembarkation. On cancellation from an early landing, this option minimizes the likelihood of developing flower arrows. In springtime, the seeds are planted either in open ground (provided that the air temperature is comfortable), or in pots, which are stored in a warm room until the onset of heat. When sowing in open ground, it is better to cover the crops with a film or a special covering material that provides reliable protection from cold and strong drafts.

If you intend to grow seedlings in special pots, have time to plant it no later than 2-4 weeks after the appearance of the first shoots. Immediately before placing the seeds in the ground at a depth of 2-3 centimeters, the ground should be compacted.

Due to such frost resistance, the culture is considered to be a very valuable find for our summer residents, who are forced to take care of the garden in unpredictable climatic conditions with sharp temperature jumps, unforeseen precipitations and other weather “surprises”.

Cooking cabbage and unique properties

Nowadays, on the basis of pak-choi they create delicious salads, soups and side dishes, so it can be called an invaluable addition to sumptuous dishes. Cooking vegetables is carried out in different ways. It can and cook and fry. For example, when cooking, the stalks are boiled first, and after 5 minutes - the leaves. Pak-choi is great for pickling and salting. Today there are many ready-made recipes that allow you to create a unique piece of culinary art based on Chinese cabbage.

In addition to food destination, cabbage can be an excellent preventive or therapeutic agent. Its juice contains excellent bactericidal substances, vitamins, enzymes and biological elements that contribute to the prevention of various diseases. Regular use of this plant in fresh or cooked form is an excellent stimulation for the immune system, especially during depletion of the body or in the period of beriberi.

Features planting cabbage pak choi

As already mentioned, cabbage pak choi develops well and bears fruit on fertile soil. Given the presence of an underdeveloped root system, frequent transplants are not recommended, therefore, in most cases, gardeners plant seeds directly in open ground, covering them with plastic wrap. It is better to start sowing in spring, for example, at the end of April.

In one prepared well no more than 3 seeds are located. The first shoots will make themselves known in 7-10 days. To improve yields, crops can be sown with an interval of 8-10 days. If you prefer growing from seedlings, then here you need to apply small containers with a nutrient mixture. For more effective treatment, daily spraying of leaves of tobacco or wood ash infusions is practiced. Fighting slugs and rain snails is done by hand, as part of a regular cultural inspection. In order not to disturb the seedlings by picking, which they do not tolerate well, it is better to sow the seeds immediately in separate containers. For this, two seeds are planted in each pot or cell of the seedling cassettes, and with the appearance of sprouts they leave a stronger specimen.
