Fruit shrubs

Grapes - Libya: variety description, care

The grape variety Libya is excellent for growing at the dacha. It can be attributed to one of the best varieties of modern breeding. The clusters and berries of this dining form of grapes differ in size and appearance from other varieties: extremely attractive and large. Early fruiting and undemanding when growing make a variety in demand among many gardeners. Libya obtained by crossing the main varieties: Flamingo and Arcadia.

Variety description

Berries can have a variety of shapes: from oval to rounded. The color of the berries can be different and vary from pink to yellow, sometimes with a purple tint. The berries have thin skin and fleshy dense flesh. Fruits with nutmeg aroma, which is not lost during storage of the crop.

Berries are endowed with a high sugar content (about 25%). Dense and large brushes have an excellent presentation. To protect against wasps, farmers often use special bags of mosquito nets. From the moment of bud break to the beginning of fruiting, it takes about 105 days. The flowers of the Libya grape variety are bisexual, which contributes to excellent pollination when growing a single bush on the site. Care must be taken when transporting the crop.

Properties of grapes Libya

The cultivation of this variety is not only in country areas, but also used for industrial purposes. Compared with other varieties, Livia grapes have numerous advantages. Characteristics of the variety emphasize a number of advantages:

  • Excellent keeping quality of the crop. A whole month of grapes preserves not only the presentation, but also the taste. Berries do not crack and do not fade.
  • High transportability. Due to the inherent hardness of the fruit does not crumple during transport. This factor is an important criterion for farms.
  • Constancy of fruiting. Creepers are able to bear fruit constantly with proper care.
  • Variety self-fertility. This criterion makes it possible to plant one bush at the dacha and get a great harvest.
  • Resistance to freezing temperatures. With a reliable cover device, these grapes can be grown in central Russia. Vine is able to withstand the thermometer in -21 degrees.

Like any plant, grapes of this variety have some drawbacks. They are very small in grapes Libya. Description of the variety reduces them to the color of the berries, which is uneven and changes in the process of fruit ripening. Another disadvantage of the variety is susceptibility to diseases of mildew and oidium.

Growing and caring for plants

Care for this variety is not much different from others. The whole range of services comes down to timely watering during the period of active growth and fruiting. And also the bush periodically needs dressing, pinching and trimming. In the period of active growth organic and potash-phosphorus supplements are introduced under the bushes of Libya grapes. The description of the variety recommends the use of fertilizers in dry form and applied in late autumn or spring.

Pruning is short due to the strong growth of the bushes. It is necessary to carry out it periodically. The bush is formed by the method of load control: no more than 45 holes are left on one bush. If you leave more, it can decrease the yield. Experienced winegrowers do not recommend tearing off the leaves of this variety.

With abundant flowering of the flowers from the bush are removed. With abundant ovary part of the clusters will not be able to mature. Bushes of this variety have many stepsons and shoots. In order to maintain normal fruiting, pinch the extra fruits before flowering, and remove the stepchildren so that the bush does not waste extra strength on growth.

Adult bushes should be sheltered for winter only in areas where the air temperature drops below -21 degrees. Young seedlings require shelter in any region.

Planting methods new bushes

Grapes of this variety can be propagated by grafting or grafting. Experienced gardeners can use any method, including vaccinations. To implement this procedure should:

  • Carry out the correct cut of the seedling so that it is cut off from both sides with a wedge.
  • The lower part of the cut below the first peephole.
  • After cutting, place the upper part in paraffin for a few seconds. This is done to ensure resistance to the environment and preserve moisture.
  • Prepare a stock. It is a part of the adult bush, which is planned to be vaccinated. To this end, the old bush is cut off at the root, leaving a stump of 10 centimeters.
  • Make the cut-off even and smooth. A split in the middle is made such that a cutting is placed there.
  • A piece of matter tightly connect the place of cleavage after placing the cutting in it. To retain moisture, the vaccination site is covered with clay.

It is better for inexperienced gardeners to choose the method of cutting, due to its lightness.. For planting the finished seedlings in the ground should:

  • Choose a seedling with two or three buds, with no visible damage or signs of morbidity. In this case, the root system must be healthy, and the cut must be green.
  • Trim the tips of the roots and process them with a growth stimulator before disembarking to a permanent place.
  • Dig a hole for planting four times as much seedling. Humus is poured into the prepared hole to the middle, and sand and soil are added on top. Humus itself can burn off the seedling's root system.
  • Take special care when landing in the ground. At this point you can easily damage the fragile roots. Have a seedling so that two buds remain on the surface.

It is better to plant new bushes in spring or autumn. In the first year, stakes are used as a support. Since the second year of growth of the bush, trellises are used to support the vines.

Irrigation methods

Many gardeners with experience during the season water the bushes twice. The first watering is done during the flowering period of the grapes. The second watering occurs during the formation of the ovary. This method is possible in case of natural precipitation between irrigation. In the absence of them should be watered bushes more often.

When watering the grapes must be careful. Excess moisture can cause the berries to crack, making the crop unfit for sale and consumption. In hot weather, do not limit the grapes in the watering.

Varietal features "Libya"

The grapes of this grape are very large, the mass of one brush varies from 600 grams. up to 1 kg, and the length can be up to 30 cm. The shape of the brush grade description - conical, although often they are branched and rather loose. The berries themselves are large, oval-shaped, pink in color. The average weight of berries - 11-13 grams.

The skin of the fruit is thin and tender, the flesh is fleshy, with a high content of juice. The taste of the berries are sweet due to the content of a large amount of sugars, have the finest nutmeg aroma. Taste and aroma up to one month remain unchanged.

Seeds are present in each berry in quantities from 1 to 3 pieces, they are easily separated from the pulp and do not interfere with the consumption of grapes for food. "Libya" according to the description attributed to table grapes. He doesn’t tolerate transportation, heightened keeping quality is also no different.

Fruiting occurs in the third year after planting. The stage of technical maturity of grapes "Libya" reaches in 105-110 days from the beginning of the growing season. Bountiful harvest possible due to the fact that the bushes grow strong and tall. This variety is capable of self-pollinating, therefore it is suitable for a single landing.

Pros and cons of grape "Libya"

"Libya" - relatively new variety grapes. It has its advantages and disadvantages, the description of which is worth paying attention to when choosing. The advantages of grape "Libya" include the fact that:

  • The variety is frost-resistant and calmly withstands winter temperatures down to -21 ° C. At lower values, the vine must be covered.
  • With good care "Libya" gives abundant harvests.
  • This species is resistant to mildew, which is valuable for grapes.
  • The variety is characterized by very early ripening.

Of the minuses it can be noted that the berries do not always turn pink by the end of the ripening period. Another disadvantage is the weak resistance to powdery mildew, which requires preventive treatments.

Landing method

This variety can be planted as a sapling, and vaccination. If you grow it on your own roots, the bush will tall and strong, and berries - very rich, bright taste. Inoculation of a seedling on a mature bush contributes to accelerated first fruiting, in this case the crops will be more abundant.

On the handle for planting, there should be at least 2-3 eyes. If you grow it on your own roots, pay attention to the state of the root system. Saplings harvested wrong, can not settle down. Roots should be without frostbite and damage, do not have dry rotted areas.

Healthy roots have a white color. Before planting, the seedling must be soaked in water for a while. Additionally, you can spend treatment by Kornevin for better rooting, and just before planting, trim the roots slightly with a sharp knife or shears.

When preparing a sapling for grafting, it is cut with a wedge under the lowest eye, so that “hangers” remain on the handle. The upper part of the cutting is sealed with paraffin to preserve moisture. Before grafting, the cutting of the lower part is placed in water with a root formation stimulator dissolved in it and kept for 12 hours.

For the stock, the old bush is cut off, leaving a stump of 8-10 cm in size. The cut is carefully cleaned of irregularities and wiped with a damp cloth, after which it is chopped in half in the middle. The split is done in such a depth that the vaccine is placed there. The stalk is inserted into the stock and wrapped around the trunk with a piece of strong matter. Place the graft over the fabric covered with clay to protect the stock from moisture loss.

Where and when is better to plant

Planted grapes "Libya" in full sun, best to do it from the south side of the house. In this case, the bushes will be maximally protected from the cold wind. Well, if the site is located on loamy soils or black soil. If this is not the case, regular fertilization will correct the situation.

You can plant new bushes in spring and autumn. The soil should be well drained, without close groundwater deposition. The landing pit is made 3-4 times the size of the root system. At the bottom is placed humus, then poured sand layer or ground. If you put the seedling directly on the humus, you can burn the roots. On the surface leave 2 buds. Shoots after planting are tied to pegs, but in the second year of cultivation they need a trellis.

Departure after landing

Caring for grapes "Libya" is not much different from caring for other varieties.

  • Bushes require plenty of water before and after flowering. Increase watering only in dry summer. From a sharp drop in the moisture level in the ground berries can crack.
  • In the spring and autumn, the soil is mulched with a layer of humus 3 cm thick. This makes it possible to feed the bushes, protects the ground from excessive evaporation of moisture, and protects the roots from unexpected frosts.
  • Besides fertilizing with organic matter, a complex mineral fertilizer is applied under the bush in the fall, it will reach the roots just in the period of active growth in spring.
  • If the thermometer falls below -21 ° C in winter, the bush is cut before hibernation and bent to the ground. Atop shelter of soil, dry foliage and film. Small, recently planted bushes can be covered with an old bucket or barrel without a bottom, additionally covered with soil.
  • Pruning plays an important role in obtaining a rich harvest of grapes "Libya". The shrub is formed from the main 3-4 shoots; pruning of the branches is carried out on 2 buds. Before winter, the main shoots are significantly shortened.
  • With a large number of ovaries, some of them remove. If the bush is overloaded, the grapes will not be able to ripen properly.
  • In order to prevent the appearance of powdery mildew, the plant is treated with fungicides twice per season. The first treatment is carried out immediately before flowering, the second - immediately after it.

History of the variety

This variety is the fruit of the work of the famous amateur breeder from Ukraine Vitaly Zagorulko. At first, this grower simply grew various varieties of grapes on his plot. And then he began to cross them. As a result, he created such famous and popular varieties and hybrids among gardeners of different regions as:

But, of course, Libya is considered to be one of the best hybrids bred by this breeder.

This perennial berry shrub was developed relatively recently - in 2010, Libya was tested, and the following year, this hybrid was entered in the register of Ukraine. The hybrid of grapes Libya belongs to table varieties.

The advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The advantages of the variety include:

  • extra early ripening of the brushes (about 105 days from the moment foliage appears until the berries fully mature),
  • good annual harvest
  • average resistance to major fungal diseases affecting vineyards,
  • frost resistance - above average,
  • pleasant persistent smell of ripening brushes,
  • beautiful appearance of ripe bunches,
  • the harvest harvests transportation well,
  • ripe clusters can be stored for at least a month.

But this hybrid has drawbacks:

  • not always ripening berries have the color that is stated in the description,
  • it is necessary to carry out preventive spraying of mildew and oidium,
  • frost resistance is not too high.

Landing hybrid Libya

This grape can be planted in open ground in several ways:

Variety Libya, planted seedlings, grows and develops on its root system. As a result, the bushes grow stronger and more powerful, and the taste qualities of ripened clusters are excellent.

Grafting this hybrid on other grape varieties, achieve fruiting as early as next season after this procedure. Increases the amount of harvest.

Saplings of Libya are ordered in proven nurseries. Usually they send planting material with a closed root system, which is very convenient: the roots do not dry out during transportation, do not break, such seedlings adapt more quickly to a new place, they get sick less.

But before planting seedlings in open ground should be carefully examined. Damaged roots and shoots should be removed with a sharp shear, the tips of the roots will also be trimmed and dipped for half an hour into a solution of any growth stimulant. Then the seedlings are immersed first in a solution of molten paraffin, then in water at a temperature of 23-25 ° C. This will allow the roots and shoots of the young bush to retain moisture, strengthen their immune system.

Preparation of the site for planting seedlings should begin in the fall. The ridges for Libya should be sunny, protected from cold winds and drafts. Typically, protection against the wind are buildings, solid fences or walls of a country house. Under the autumn digging they bring humus or well-rotten compost, as well as a complex of mineral fertilizers for grapes and berry bushes. All these fertilizers should be carefully embedded in the ground to a depth of one spade, so that useful substances are not washed out of the soil during the spring thawing of snow.

Saplings in the warmed soil

The soil for the vineyard will fit almost any, except for heavy clay soils. The main thing is that the soil is light and loose, and there is no stagnant water in it. It is also necessary to select a site where groundwater does not come closer to the soil surface by 0.5-0.7 m. Grapes are very sensitive to excess moisture in the soil, and this must be taken into account when it is planted.

Usually, rows of grapes are made in such a way that their direction is from south to north. The distance between the seedlings in a row should be at least 0.5 m, and the distance between the rows should be 0.7-0.9 m.

A layer of drainage material (fine crushed stone or pebbles) is laid on the bottom of the landing pits, then a layer of nutrient substrate of garden soil, humus and river sand, into which water is applied (about 4-5 liters per well). Moreover, from this soil mixture in the center of the hole is a mound, on which the seedling is installed, and its roots are gently spread on the slopes of the mound. Then the hole is filled with the remaining nutrient substrate, gently crushed so that there are no air bubbles near the roots. Then you should water the young plants and grind with peat or humus.

Bushes care

Since this variety is hybrid, i.e., artificially bred, care for it must be delicate and correct. And if you follow all agrotechnical rules, as a result, the grapes will “thank” the owners with a good harvest of tasty juicy berries.

About some nuances of caring for Libya:

  1. This grape variety needs watering - the soil around Libya’s vineyards must always be wet. Water this perennial berry should be before flowering and during the formation of ovaries. But it is important not to overmoisten the ground too much. You should watch what the foliage of the vines looks like. Бурая расцветка листьев говорит о том, что почва слишком влажная, а температура воздуха высокая. Если же расцветка листвы становится темно-изумрудной, то это может быть началом хлороза.
  2. You should also make mulch under the grape bushes. It retains moisture in the soil, protects the roots from freezing. And the decomposed mulch will be a source of plant nutrients. Usually make a layer of mulch under the grapes in the spring and autumn.
  3. Under Libya, they usually bring in not only organic matter, but also complex mineral fertilizers. Most of this berry culture requires phosphate and potassium supplements. Usually feeding is carried out at the end of autumn, when the foliage begins to fall.
  4. Bushes of grapes before the onset of cold weather cut, laid on the ground and harbor. As a covering material, you can use hay, soil or film material.
  5. Libya must be regularly cut. This procedure improves fruiting. Each of the shoots are usually reduced by 3-5 eyes. When forming trimming is carried out, no more than 4 main sleeves should be left, which should be trimmed regularly in late September - early October.

Important! Very often when ripening grapes in many grape varieties, the foliage is cut off, which shields the hands from the sun. This is not recommended for Libya.

Planting and care

In the north and in the middle lane, it is recommended to carry out such an event only in the autumn, guided by the state of the kidneys, which should be closed. For regions located to the south, with a warmer climate, it is possible to plant in spring. When planting seedlings with an open root system, you need to use a clay talker for better rooting.

Planting pit should be about 40-45 cm deep, and at the bottom you need to arrange a mound and seedling roots carefully spread on its surface. In climatic conditions that require sheltered viticulture, during planting, it is necessary to leave several intact buds, having them below the ground level by 12-16 cm, the rest should be removed.

Under the conditions of unopened cultivation of the Libya grape variety, it is allowed to leave one kidney on the surface. Attention! When dry summer young sapling should be watered regularly. The shrub is formed in the same way as for other varieties.

The main form of cultivation is the trellis, which must be located in the north-south direction.

The main operation in the care of grapes Libya is the timely pruning of bushes. The best results of the variety with a short pruning of 2-6 buds. Proper formation of a bush implies the presence of no more than four main branches, but each autumn they must be shortened. It is better to remove excessive ovaries, because congestion of the vine leads to incomplete ripening of the berries.

Watering the vineyard produced twice per season, the first time before its flowering, the second time, after it ends. In dry seasons, it is allowed to produce additional watering, but it must be careful, excess moisture often leads to cracking of the berries in the process of ripening.

Both organic and mineral fertilizers are used for feeding Libya grapes. The main method of application is mulching, that is, covering the soil with a layer of fertilizer of the order of 3 cm.

This should be done in late autumn, which leads to the penetration of nutrients to the root system by the spring, exactly when they are needed. Yield increase occurs when using potash and phosphate dressings.

Libya grapes can withstand temperatures up to 21 ° C, so in regions with lower temperatures, even if short-term, plantings need shelter.

Before you make it, you need to make a careful pruning of the vine. After that, lay it on the ground, secure with wire straps and tightly cover with dry grass or straw. Covered in this way, the vines must be covered with soil and covered with plastic wrap.

Young shoots are covered using a wide tank without a bottom, covering it with a sprout and filling it with soil. Instead of capacity you can use a plank box.

Grape diseases

For the variety Libya the same diseases are characteristic as for other grape varieties. Especially dangerous of them are:

Mildew - downy mildew. For the prevention of the disease, it is necessary to collect and burn all the leaves in the fall, and to clean the soil by copper or iron sulphate as indicated in the instructions for use. In the spring, soil treatment with fungicides after its loosening is obligatory. After the appearance of the first leaves and before the flowering of the formed brushes, spray the Bordeaux mixture. Before performing this operation, it is necessary to thin the leaves to ensure blowing bushes. The development of the disease is hampered by the presence of a sufficient amount of potassium in the soil.

Oidium-fungal disease, powdery mildew. The first signs appear in the form of smoked young leaves, then a grayish-white bloom appears. The affected berries dry up or crack and die. The most significant harm to the disease is the fruit. If time does not take action, the disease can completely destroy the vineyard in one season.

Measures of impact. Unlike mildew, copper preparations have practically no effect on this disease. Oidium is most effectively removed by colloidal sulfur, and the thinner the product is ground, the better its effects, penetrating inside the cells of the fungus, it contributes to the release of hydrogen sulfide, detrimental to the pathogen. But most often used complex drugs that contain copper and sulfur, affecting several diseases at the same time.

Characteristic variety

The author of the variety is the Ukrainian amateur breeder V.V. Zagorulko, who received the Livia grape as a result of crossing the Flamingo and Arcadia varieties. Description of the variety is not yet known to every gardener, as the variety is quite new.

Grapes varieties "Libya" refers to the number of table forms of grapes with very early ripening. High quality characteristics, as well as marketability and excellent external data obtained by a hybrid from the parent pair.

Biological description

The grapes "Libya" forms crowns of young shoots of light green coloring with a complete lack of pubescence. The first sheets on the vine are practically solid. The leaves, located on the shoots above, have a five-lobed mid-dissected structure. Chereshkovye dredging open. Annual, fully matured shoots have a light brown color.

Flowers bisexual. Grape bunches are formed in large sizes. and have an average length of 25 cm, and sometimes more. The form of a ripe grape brush is cylindrical, a cluster of medium friability. Some grapes have pronounced branching. The average brush weight can vary from 0.6 to 1 kg.

Technical characteristics of berries

The grapes called "Libya" is of large size. The form is berry or ovoid. The standard sizes of berries are 2.8 x 2 cm. Weight varies from 10 to 13 g.

The skin of the berry is very soft and tender, has a pleasant pink color. The flesh has a fleshy and rather juicy structure. Taste is very high: the grapes combine sweetness with a delicate nutmeg aftertaste. The level of sugars is 18%. Acidity indicators do not exceed 9 g / l. The number of seeds varies from one to three per berry.

Trimming features

The grapes "Libya" is very responsive to the quality of pruning and gives the grower a rich harvest of high-quality, ripe, juicy berries. The optimum for this variety is the implementation of a short trim for 2-6 eyes.

When performing the formation of vines, it is recommended to leave no more than 3-4 main sleeves, which in the autumn period need a quality shortening. In addition, the cultivation of "Libya" involves the rationing of the crop by removing too many of the emerging grape ovaries. Overload has a negative effect on crop aging.

Gardeners reviews

A relatively new hybrid form of grapes called “Libya” has found both its admirers and gardeners who don’t like this variety. Many cultivators are attracted by such qualities of the variety as large and very well-formed brushes, beautiful and leveled berries of delicious color with a pleasant caramel nutmeg. The grapes "Libya" is among the really popular market varieties, and its harvest is always successfully realized.

Berries of Libya

The fruits of the grapes are large. The berries are egg-shaped, up to two centimeters wide, and up to 3 cm long, the weight of one berry is 11-13 grams.

The skin of the fruit is pink, soft, almost not felt. The flesh is fleshy, juicy, because of which the variety has a special value.

Tastes of fruits are excellent. According to reviews, the description of the variety, Livia grapes, the photo of which can be seen in the article, has a delicate, sweet nutmeg aroma. Even during long-term storage, the taste does not change.

The variety contains a lot of sugars - up to eighteen percent with seven percent acidity. Each berry contains up to three seeds, which are easily separated from the pulp.

Disadvantages and advantages of the variety

Characteristics of grapes Libya determine its advantages and disadvantages. The first include:

  1. Early ripening.
  2. Excellent taste.
  3. Attractive appearance brushes. The clusters are large, the average weight is six hundred grams, and the weight of the individual can reach 1.5 kilograms or more.
  4. The variety is able to maintain its quality for a long time.
  5. Crop stability. With proper care, 25-30 kg of berries are harvested from one vine.
  6. Long storage. Harvest can be stored up to thirty days.

The disadvantages include:

  1. Some gardeners note the lack of color of the berries.
  2. Variety is unstable to mildew and oidium.
  3. The need for winter shelter. The variety can withstand up to -21 degrees of frost. Due to its low frost resistance, it is recommended to grow the variety only in the southern territory of Russia. Even in the north of the Rostov region, the vines can be frozen out.

Berries varieties have a great attraction for wasps. Because of this, the clusters must be closed with a net so that insects do not damage the crop.

Landing features

Features of growing grapes in Libya are the right choice of planting place, pruning and care.

It is necessary to plant a variety in a well-lit area, providing it with vertical weaving. The southern directions of the yard area are best suited. The place must be protected from drafts.

There are no special requirements for the type of soil. When grown on scanty soils, regular feeding is carried out. Although, according to the description of the variety, reviews, Libya grapes, the photo of which gives an idea of the size of the fruit, gives the best yields when growing vines on black soil, loamy lands with deep groundwater.

The landing pit is prepared in advance. It should be several times the root system of the cutting. In the pit is laid humus, mixed with fertile land.

The seedling is placed in the hole so that the root collar remains above the ground. The plant gently falls asleep, with support on the north side. At the end of planting the grapes are watered.

If the root system of the seedling is underdeveloped, then before planting it is recommended to treat it with a root formation stimulator.

How to care

The grapes of Libya, planting and caring for which are simple, with respect to the recommendations gives a great harvest. In case of thickened foliage, it is not advisable to tear it off, as the variety painfully reacts to this procedure.

Culture loves moisture. It is recommended to water the grapes at least two times per season: at the beginning of flowering and after its completion. In dry weather, the frequency of irrigation increases. You can not pour the vine, as this may cause the appearance of disease.

Leaves say the need for water. Turned foliage indicates that the plant is hot and humid. To preserve moisture, the soil around the vine is mulched. This helps reduce the amount of watering, as well as retain moisture and protect the root system from the cold weather.

By winter, the vine is removed from the support, laid on the ground, removing all fallen leaves and berries. Be sure to carry out the treatment with a fungicide. The plant is covered. As a covering material used film, hay. Some gardeners drop earth into the vine.

Breeding features

Knowing how to propagate the grapes of Libya, you can get a large number of new plants. Reproduction carried out by two methods: grafting and rooting cuttings.

For reproduction by cuttings from the vine cut off the part that has at least three buds. They put it in water or put it in wet sand and wait for roots to appear. First, the branches will dissolve the leaves, and then the root system will begin to grow.

The pruned Livia grapes are very responsive and offer high-quality, tasty tassels. Vine is recommended to cut 2-6 holes.

When performing the formation of the vine should be left no more than four fertile sleeves, which in the autumn should be shortened. When flowering should remove excess ovary. Overload has a negative impact on the yield of grape Libya.

Libya can not be overloaded. On one vine leave no more than fifty buds. Young plants are pruned shorter, leaving no more than four buds.

An important feature of the variety - fruiting is shifted to the base of the vine.

Opinions of gardeners about the variety

New hybrid has found its fans. There are also gardeners who do not like the variety. The attraction in Libya is that the variety produces large tassels and delicious berries with a pleasant aroma that can be stored for a month without losing quality.

The disadvantage is the need to cover the vine and in insufficient color of the berries. Also, the gardeners do not like the variety because of its instability to certain diseases. However, if carried out timely processing, the culture will not hurt.

Most often, Libya has mildew and powdery mildew.

Downy mildew, or mildew, is considered the most common disease among grape crops. It affects all the green parts of the crop, including berries. The disease is caused by a fungus.

The first signs of the disease is the appearance on the upper part of the still growing leaves of an oily spot of a rounded shape. In wet weather, white bloom forms on the underside on the spot. Gradually, the tissues begin to die: necrosis captures all large areas. At first, the affected tissue turns yellow, then the spot becomes red-brown with bright processes of dying and drying. With strong lesions leaves fall. After the initial manifestation of mildew on the leaves, the fungus passes into inflorescences and clusters with a crop. The comb is affected on the tassels: a green spot appears on it, as if soaked with water. If the mycelium penetrates into the peduncle, ovaries, flowers, buds, clusters with berries, then the whole brush is covered with white bloom, then the flowers and buds fall off, the berries fall off.

The most favorable conditions for the development of the disease - the temperature of 20-25 degrees and high humidity.

To combat the disease, it is recommended to carry out timely fertilizing with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, remove stepchildren, carry out preventive treatments with fungicides. The first is carried out in the period when the young shoots reach a length of twenty centimeters. The second treatment is carried out before flowering, and when the berries reach the size of a pea, a third treatment is carried out. The following preparations are used for mildew: Antracol, Bordeaux mixture, Strobe, copper oxychloride, Thanos, etc.

Oidium or powdery mildew

Oidium, or true mealy dew, causes the most damage to grapes. The disease also causes fungus. Symptoms of the disease is a lag in the growth and development of shoots, leaf curliness, white-gray bloom on the upper side of the leaf. Bunches of grapes and tops of the shoots look as if they were sprinkled with flour. Infected berries burst, lag behind, then dry.

Oidium causes great damage to the crop. In order to save it, it is necessary to carry out the prevention of the disease, and in cases of infection - treatment with Strobi, Topaz, Tiovit, etc.
