Downy mildew, or mildew, is considered the most common disease among grape crops. It affects all the green parts of the crop, including berries. The disease is caused by a fungus.

The first signs of the disease is the appearance on the upper part of the still growing leaves of an oily spot of a rounded shape. In wet weather, white bloom forms on the underside on the spot. Gradually, the tissues begin to die: necrosis captures all large areas. At first, the affected tissue turns yellow, then the spot becomes red-brown with bright processes of dying and drying. With strong lesions leaves fall. After the initial manifestation of mildew on the leaves, the fungus passes into inflorescences and clusters with a crop. The comb is affected on the tassels: a green spot appears on it, as if soaked with water. If the mycelium penetrates into the peduncle, ovaries, flowers, buds, clusters with berries, then the whole brush is covered with white bloom, then the flowers and buds fall off, the berries fall off.

The most favorable conditions for the development of the disease - the temperature of 20-25 degrees and high humidity.

To combat the disease, it is recommended to carry out timely fertilizing with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, remove stepchildren, carry out preventive treatments with fungicides. The first is carried out in the period when the young shoots reach a length of twenty centimeters. The second treatment is carried out before flowering, and when the berries reach the size of a pea, a third treatment is carried out. The following preparations are used for mildew: Antracol, Bordeaux mixture, Strobe, copper oxychloride, Thanos, etc.

Oidium or powdery mildew

Oidium, or true mealy dew, causes the most damage to grapes. The disease also causes fungus. Symptoms of the disease is a lag in the growth and development of shoots, leaf curliness, white-gray bloom on the upper side of the leaf. Bunches of grapes and tops of the shoots look as if they were sprinkled with flour. Infected berries burst, lag behind, then dry.

Oidium causes great damage to the crop. In order to save it, it is necessary to carry out the prevention of the disease, and in cases of infection - treatment with Strobi, Topaz, Tiovit, etc.
