Garden flowers, plants and shrubs

Water lily: flower description

The water lily belongs to the family Nymphaeaceae, which includes more than 50 species of perennials with powerful, fleshy rhizomes. A water-lily is often mistakenly called a lump.

This is an amazing flower. The white waterlily (the Red Book of Russia includes it as a rare plant) among the Slavs was an indispensable component of various means for the love spell. It was believed that this plant, taken on the road with him, would protect a person from any evil. Karl Linney, a famous biologist who collected legends about this plant, was surprised by the fate of the nymph, rejected by Hercules, and turned into a water lily by the gods. Because of this, he decided in her honor to give the Latin name of the flower - nymphae white.

Claude Monet, a French painter, wrote in 1899 in oil on canvas "White Water Lilies". He reflected him, how beautiful is the nature that surrounds us.

Interesting about the plant

The white water lily (water lily) is a natural weather forecaster. There is a huge amount will take the behavior of the plant depending on the weather.

It has been observed for many years that if the flowers open early in the morning, then the weather will be fine all day, while if it appears only at 9 am, it will rain. If it does not appear at all, soon there will be a strong and prolonged downpour.

White waterlily: description

It is a stemless perennial herb and water plant with large, floating leaves. It refers to the nymphaeaceae. It has a creeping rhizome, adjacent to it leaves, resembling a heart, as well as long pedicels with white single flowers. Flowers with lots of white petals, emit a light scent, float on water. Their cup is four-leaf green. Many stamens, radiant, stiff stigma. Fruits - spherical, green, always ripen under water. In June-July flowering occurs.

Places of growth

It grows in the European part of our country, in the southern part of Siberia, in the Ural region, Belarus, Ukraine, Eastern Transcaucasia, in the North Caucasus. In a white water lily habitat it is standing and slowly flowing water (lakes, ponds, river bays).

Recently, the conditions for the habitat of a plant in nature are deteriorating; consequently, today it has been entered in the Red Book.

The composition of the white water lily

The white waterlily (described in this article) contains tannins in the roots, starch, nymphaline alkaloid, flavonoids in petals, cardenomide nymphaline, tannins in leaves, oxalic acid, flavonoids, tannins in seeds, starch and fatty oil .

For therapeutic purposes, applied rhizomes, leaves and flowers of the plant. The roots are stored in early autumn, the leaves and flowers - in the summer.

Procurement and collection

The period of collecting water lilies is selected depending on the required part of it.

If these are roots, then they should be harvested in early autumn, when a huge amount of nutrients are already accumulating in them. They are mined from the bottom with the help of burs, then cleared of cuttings of leaves, small roots. Then they are washed, cut into identical sized pieces and dried in a ventilated room or outside in the shade.

If the buds or flowers of the plant are a white water lily, then you need to accurately select the time of collection. This should occur during flowering. In addition, they need to be collected before 5 pm, and if the buds are just before 7 am or immediately after 5 pm, since the flowers are submerged after this time. Mostly flowers are taken fresh, but if necessary, they are dried in a ventilated shady place.

The leaves of the plant can be collected in the fall before the onset of cold weather around the clock. The leaves are dried in the same conditions as all other parts - in a ventilated shady room.

The fruits and seeds of the water lily are collected during its flowering (it should be borne in mind that one flower blooms for only 4 days): for example, the seeds are taken directly from the surface of the water, where they float in “capsules”, while the fruits - at a shallow depth under water. Seeds and fruits after harvesting need to be dried.

Although not only these rules are recommended to follow the magicians and healers. When various parts of a water lily are broken, you should always cajole the water spirit, since this plant is under its protection: this can be done by throwing a piece of bread or a few coins into the water.

When collecting plants, you need to remember that the water lily is listed in many countries in the Red Books, therefore, it can only be collected in limited quantities.

The white waterlily plant is actively used in folk medicine. Infusion of flowers is used to quench thirst, as a sedative and antipyretic effective agent. Water infusion of these flowers is used for insomnia as a sedative and sedative.

Medications from the rhizomes and roots of the plant help reduce skin inflammation, while in crushed form they are used as mustard plaster.

If you add a white water lily to the roots of the plant, this decoction will help with constipation and jaundice. Roots cooked in wort are consumed by nursing women, thereby increasing the amount of milk.

Alcohol tincture made from the leaves, drink with urolithiasis. When hair loss is recommended to wash your hair with a decoction of the roots of the plant.

Infusion, which is prepared from the flowers of this medicinal plant, is used for bathing and washing, in addition to relieving pain as an external remedy.

Dry rhizomes can grind into flour and bake them with her bread.

Infusion of petals

A small amount of fresh white water lily petals should be poured with a glass of boiling water, held for an hour, filtered, applied orally to quench thirst in small sips with insomnia and fever. White water lily flower in this form is suitable for people suffering from diseases of the nervous system.

The use of such drugs, which are obtained from different parts of the water lily, should be under the supervision of a specialist. It is simply explained - the water lily itself is very poisonous.

The Red Book of Russia, by the way, included a flower in the list of rare plants, therefore its production is now prohibited.

What are the types of water lilies?

Pure white or snow white water lily

Often this flower can be found in the waters of Russia. The beginning of flowering period falls on May-June, the peak of flowering is observed from July to August. Each of the flowers of such a lily lasts about 4 days. After flowering, the pedicel begins to curl and the fruit gradually begins to sink under water.

Dwarf water lily

This white flower has a hybrid origin. This plant has oval leaves of dark color up to 2.5 cm in diameter. Dwarf water lily grows in reservoirs up to 30 cm deep.

Tetrahedral water lily

This type of flower can be found in the north of Russia and even in Siberia. It has miniature sizes - up to 5 cm in diameter.

Fragrant water lily

Found in the waters of North America. The flowers are white and have a diameter of 15 cm. The flower grows at a depth of 40 to 80 cm. There are also white and yellow, pink and cream flowers.

Hybrid view

Hybrid plants are divided into several types:

Frost-resistant type is common in the waters of Siberia and in northern European regions of Russia.

Tropical type is often grown in greenhouses or winter gardens, where the water temperature does not fall below 25 ° C.

How to use this plant?

Water lily can be used as follows:

  • in the Caucasus, the root of the plant is eaten, boiled or fried,
  • in the Scandinavian countries, flour is made from the rhizome of this flower,
  • Lily seeds can be used to make a drink that is very similar to coffee in its taste, and also has an invigorating effect,
  • dried roots and leaves of this plant are used in many homeopathic preparations.

Please note that white water lilies are listed in the Red Book. The chemical composition of the plant is striking in its diversity. The structure includes:

  • oxalic acid,
  • vitamins
  • alkaloids
  • starch,
  • essential oils,
  • glycosides.

The extract of this plant is widely used in the manufacture of pharmacological preparations that are intended for the treatment of the following diseases:

Features of reproduction of water lilies

Plant can multiply in several ways: vegetatively and seeds.

If you want to have not a decorative flower, but a real water lily, then you should pay attention to the following recommendations:

  • it is forbidden to cut off the root of a wild plant, as it is a violation of the law on the protection of white water lilies, as a rare species
  • you should wait for autumn, when the seed boxes come up - collect them on the water surface,
  • seed box in a viscous and moist soil,
  • the soil for planting should be in a large pot and resemble slush,
  • pot with a planted box should be lowered into an artificial reservoir.

If the planting procedures are carried out in the autumn, then it is not necessary to open the box, the seeds should overwinter in it. In spring the seed box will open on its own.

Decorative hybrids of this plant can be purchased in almost any floristic salon that specializes in landscaping ponds. Planted such hybrid flowers in June.

Plant protection

White water lily is very rare in nature. Notice that since 1993, the water lily is listed in the Red Book of Russia.

There are special botanical reserves and mini-reserves where water lilies are artificially grown. Such reserves are located in the Leningrad and Tver regions. An interesting fact is that the Patriarch's Ponds are decorated with water lilies from the Tver reserve.

The largest flower is the water lily. Victoria amazonian. This flower belongs to a separate genus of the family of lily giant flowers. The size of the leaves can reach up to 3 m. There is such a plant in the shallow waters of the Amazon. Victoria Amazonian blooms only a few days, and the color of the petals is constantly changing. At first they are white, then pink, at the end of flowering they can be red or crimson. This variety of water lilies is considered rare, it is cultivated in greenhouses.

As a result, it should be noted that the hybrid water lily is an excellent solution for the decoration of artificial reservoirs. For such flowers no need to take care of them and very easy to plant. But the wild water lilies are endangered botanical species, and their destruction is prosecuted. You can buy a wild water lily only in a specialized reserve. There are several such reserves in Russia.

Description and photo

Water Lily (Aqua) - This is a perennial.

Grows like an aquatic herb.

Belongs to the family Nymphaeaceae.

Counts more 50 subspecies.

Aqua It has wide root system brown shade. Rhizome strongly intertwined under water.

In the height of the roots reach more 2.5 meters. On them grow stalks and leaves. Thanks to such a system of air channels, the flower can easily breathe and stay on the surface of the water during heavy rains and strong winds. The center of gravity of such leaves is located in the place of stalk growth.

The leaves are floating, egg-shaped. In diameter reach 25-35 cm. Young copies of crimson color. With age, the leaves change color and become lilac.

Because of this, the color and size of the leaves are different. Lily rolled in the form of a cap. With the help of it is hiding flower buds.

Below are photos of Water Lily (Aqua):

Flowers solitary, very large, snow-white. In diameter can reach 15-25 cm. The shape of flowers is cupped. Each flower has 3-5 petals. The location of the leaves smoothly go into the stamens. The stigma is an orange-bloody shade, has a dented form.

Aroma very strong, delicate, floral. Each flower can bloom 3-5 days. But because of their large amount of flowering continues throughout the warm days from May to September. With the onset of cold weather flowers begin to fade. After flowering, oval fruits of emerald hue are formed. The formation of the fruit occurs under water.

Growing area

Where do water lilies grow? In the water along the banks of rivers, lakes, marshes and other bodies of water. Distributed in the center of the Russian Federation, Asia, Transcaucasia, Belarus, Ukraine.

In most cases Aqua grows in the forest and steppe zones. Also, this representative of the flora is used as a decor in landscape design. Water Lily can grow in current and standing water bodies. It decorates artificial swamps, ponds, streams, lakes, fountains.

Many talents depicted Water Lily on their canvases.

Claude Monet he planted various kinds of flowers in his greenhouse and built gardens in the suburbs of Paris.

One of these gardens called Japanese water in which grow water lilies.

In this garden, he created a series of paintings with Water Lilies and Aqua.

In early spring it is necessary to treat with insecticides. They have a wide spectrum of action. Important have time before the flowering of neighboring plants.

Before the budding is complete, it is necessary to process the flower with fungicides. Such procedures prevent the development of fungal diseases.

Processing is necessary to make necessarily, as the flower grows in water conditions with high humidity.

Planting and transplanting plants allowed produce throughout the growing season.

Lilyam need 3-6 hours natural sunlight. The plant can tolerate direct sunlight.

The optimum temperature for growth is 18-26 ° C. The temperature must not be allowed to fall. below 14 ° C.

Therefore, Aqua is recommended grow in gardens, greenhouses or rooms in which you can artificially raise the temperature of the air.

Place for growth choose sunny, warm, protected from the wind. The water in the reservoir is changed every two weeks. Wild Water Lilies can tolerate heavy rainfall, cold gusts of wind and even hail.

Planting and transplanting

Usually he lasts from late spring to early autumn - before the onset of cold weather. The selected body of water should be well lit.

If you use large and wide reservoirs, then at the onset of cold weather the ponds freeze. To frost does not damage the root system of the flower, the plant is planted in the ground itself on a larger recess.

This method of growth allows you to pull a flower out of a pond and transfer it to a warmer and lighted place for the winter.

Such containers should not be very high, but very wide, resembling bowls or trays. At the bottom should be drainage holes.

When using a basket with large cells or a wooden box is knocked down, the bottom must be lay a burlap. Otherwise the ribbed surface will damage the roots of Aqua. And the soil will be washed through the slots and holes, which will lead to the death of the plant.

Thus, they will not be visible from an artificial reservoir.

The root system should be secured with wooden studs, wire, gravel or natural stone.

Breeding happens seeds and shoots of the root system.

Strongly grown powerful bushes must be divided once in 3-6 years.

For such breeding is great will fit root system with a well-developed kidney.

Sections that make a sharp knife, sprinkle with crushed charcoal.

Aqua negatively reacts to drying out. Therefore, bushes is necessary to transport and place in a new reservoir as soon as possible. Full rooting during vegetative reproduction should occur after 14 days.

Growing from seed

With breeding seed planting seeds are sown in the soil at the bottom of a decorative pond. Also allowed the use of small baskets with soil.

Containers are immersed in water and lowered to the bottom of the reservoir. When hit on the soil planting material opens and begins to grow. With full rooting, the plant begins to reach for the light and reaches 25, -3.0 meters in length.

Therefore, this breeding method is used only in botanical gardens or greenhouses, where you can monitor the temperature of the air.

Top dressing is necessary make in the spring. For this use purchased soluble fertilizer. They are added to the water next to the plant. When applying slowly-soluble fertilizing in the form of granules, the frequency of application should be once every 3-4 months.

Benefit and harm

Dry Water Lily are drinking with neurosis, strong shocks, insomnia.

She is is an sedative sedative, as it contains Glycoside Nymphaline.

In folk medicine her use in neuralgia with brittle bones, rheumatism.

Is an antipyretic and analgesic with fevers. Dry leaves of this representative flora are used as an external agent. Leaves have anti-inflammatory effect. The root system removes skin inflammation, removes rashes, acne, papillomas.

All this is due to the essential oil, which is contained in the plant in large quantities. For colds, the root of the flower is used as mustard plaster. Tincture of rhizomes is used against spleen tumors.

But people with low blood pressure take Aqua is not recommended, as the plant trace elements soothe the body and reduce the pressure even more.

Aqua - water perennial. It is grown in the fortified soil of decorative ponds. He loves the sun and feeding. It blooms during the growing season from May to September. Possesses gentle floral scent. Used in medicine as a sedative.

The flowering of the nympha begins in spring, revealing large water lilies of white, pink, pale yellow, purple and blue colors.

One of the interesting features of the water lily is its ability to close at night and goes under the water, restoring the freshness of the flower, for a new day. Flower petals are very delicate, oval-pointed shape, cream, red or pink color. Inside the bud stamens and pistil are located. The size of the flower is about 15-25 cm. The fragrance of a blooming nymph covers a large area.

When the water lily is pollinated, a fruit appears on the pedicle, in the form of a seed box, it reaches full maturity under water, where it opens and gives seeds. Water lily seeds are first kept on the surface, thanks to a thick, slimy secret, then washed with water, grow heavy, sink to the bottom of the reservoir and grow.

The yellow core of a large flower of the Nile water lily, was considered a temporary haven of the sun god Ra, from the flower he showed the world the sun. The Egyptian belief in mystical traditions prompted the priests to use the blue lotus in mummification rituals.

At the opening of the Ramses sarcophagus, they found the remains of flowers (the mummy was showered with them) which turned out to be water lilies.

Water lilies are decorative in nature, highly demanded in the decoration of artificial reservoirs. Often gardeners think about planting water lilies at the site, but doubt whether they can create the conditions for the growth and development of the flower. Speculation is easily dispelled, thanks to the ability of the water lily to grow even in small (artificial) reservoirs with suitable temperature and soil.

Thanks to its presentable and memorable appearance, the water lily has long won the hearts of true connoisseurs of natural beauty. Flower growers all over the world bred water lotus, as a decorative culture.

Types of water lilies

The water lily is widespread throughout the world and has absorbed about half a hundred species. The palette of shades of petals and the size of the buds of nymphs are diverse. The largest of all, is the Victoria water lily, with its impressive size and remarkable appearance, it has won the hearts of many gardeners. The closest relative of the water lily is a nugget, less noticeable, but not inferior to it in its decorative qualities and fame.

White water lily

It inhabits the whole of Eurasia, as well as Africa. The large water lily has an impressive foliage size of about 35 cm and large, milky-colored flowers, reaching a diameter of about 20 cm. The root system is strong, located on the surface of the soil, clinging tenaciously to the sludge by long root processes. The length of the root is about 65 cm. The white water lily has underwater stems forming a whole bush. One water lily is able to cover quite a lot of free space in the reservoir. The flowering of white nymphs begins in summer, lasts about three weeks, throwing large white water lilies to the surface with a yellow core.

Red waterlily

Differs in a beautiful shade of colors from dark pink to red, the buds are medium.

Opened water lilies exude a pleasant, lasting fragrance.

The root system is shallow, well-developed. It has one main stem and several additional ones. The diameter of flowers ranges from 12 to 20 cm. The leaves are fleshy, bright green in color, reaching about 25 cm in size.

Blue waterlily

One of the first and most famous species. In another view is called the Egyptian lotus or Egyptian lily. Blue water lily inhabited the coastal zone of the Nile River, then began to settle throughout Africa, India and Thailand. The foliage of the plant is wiry, large, about 35 cm in length. Flowers with such large foliage appear small, reach a size of 16-20 cm. The color of the petals varies from sky blue to cornflower blue, lilac and blue.

Tiger Water Lily

Differs large dark green leaves, uneven brindle color.

The remarkable nature of the tiger-lily creates exactly the pattern of the leaves (brown and red spots). Differs in seasonality, does not tolerate frosts, suitable for growing in aquariums. Africa is considered the birthplace of tiger nymphs. The flowers are small, white or cream color. The root system is developed well, does not tolerate the rapid flow and cold water.

Victoria Water Lily Regia or Amazonian Nymphea

Another kind of impressive size. Victoria Water Lily was discovered by the German botanist-naturalist Edward Pelling in the 19th century. The Amazonian water lily blooms only once a year, dispersed only at night, and it still dims under water.

The hue of perhaps the largest flower changes from white to pink in the flowering process. In full bloom, the Amazonian water lily can reach 35 cm. Victoria Regia has a persistent, noticeable aroma, and her foliage can bear the weight of a teenager.

The water-lily is yellow

Yellow water lily refers to perennials, with a well-developed root system, which lies deep in the ground. It has underwater small foliage with jagged edges, on short petioles.

Surface floating leaves ovoid, large up to 20 cm in diameter. The flowers are large, green outside, yellow inside. They reach a size of about 17 cm. Flowering occurs in June and lasts almost until September.

Water Lily

Water nymphea, from the family of nymphaeaceae. Botanically, it is similar to a white water lily, has a medium-sized floating foliage and a shallow underwater. Flowers above water, reach medium size, have a cream shade and bright yellow core. Water lily is used in pharmacology, and starch is obtained from the roots.

The most popular varieties of water lilies among gardeners were recognized:

Alba (large, snow-white flowers), Gold Medal (yellow flowers with a large core), James Bridon variety (a very beautiful variety with large, fluffy, burgundy halos), Blue beauty (has memorable blue flowers with a yellow heart), Rosia (pink flowers, with a bright purple cup).

Growing water lilies

To the process of growing water lilies do not cause unnecessary trouble, seriously approach the choice of planting material. No wonder they say: "A miser pays twice." Purchase planting material in specialized stores or borrow from proven flower growers.

Warm summer months are considered to be a suitable period for planting water lilies. The plant can immediately be planted on the bottom of the reservoir, but it is worth considering that the water lilies are terribly afraid of frost and cold, so looking ahead, take this fact into account and plant the plant in a deep container, and then it will be easier to remove the flower and send for wintering.

Planting substrate for water lilies can be acquired in the store, buying ready-made primer for water lilies, and you can cook yourself. The optimal composition can be considered a peat layer of 4 cm and 10 cm of sod soil with sand in equal parts.

During planting, make sure that the growth bud on the surface of the pot, on the roots of the water lily stick bulbs-top dressing, made of clay, mixed with mineral fertilizers.

It will be enough to 3-4 pieces the size of a ball for paintball. After, the rhizome is placed in a pot on a layer of peat and is poured on top of the prepared soil mixture, leaving room for a layer of river pebbles, to make it heavier.

Immediately after planting the water lily, the plant should be placed on the bottom of the reservoir, it is customary to calculate the optimal depth for immersion of the pot based on the plant variety data. Dwarf varieties located at a depth of half a meter, tall from a meter or more, the growth of a water lily kidney will serve as a guide.

In order for a water lily to develop faster, it is better to place it in shallow water until the first leaves appear. When the first two floating leaves appear, the plant pot is deepened.

Plants planted in time, you will bloom in the first year of the growing season, and some varieties will delight even a few flowering.

During planting, be careful about the resistance of the variety you have chosen to the cold. Some types of water lilies can survive a mild winter without additional cover, for example, water lily or white water lily. Most often, the high survival rate of water lilies is observed only in high varieties, the rhizomes of which lie deep under water.

But if in your region the winter is long and severe. Water lilies for the winter should be removed from the reservoir and sent to a dark, cool place, and with the onset of spring, after the ice converges, return to the reservoir.

Care for water lilies in the garden

Nymphaea unpretentious plant and care for it is not difficult. In the usual wild environment, water lilies grow without care, multiplying and blooming in time. However, do not allow the water lily to clouded the water mirror with leaves, this may entail chopping flowers.

Dead flowers and yellowed foliage should be removed from the pond so that the water does not “bloom”. In order for the plant to give more flowers, do not leave the water lily more than two floating leaves.

Make sure that the plant has enough space in your pond, do not plant too many nymphei in small ponds.

Small artificial reservoirs with stagnant water are subject to periodic cleaning. After removing the water lily for wintering, the reservoir should be lowered and cleaned of dirt and debris, and with the arrival of spring, be filled with fresh clean water, let it brew for about a week and proceed to a new water lily planting. A week before planting, water lily should be watered with mineral fertilizers.

Diseases and pests of water lilies

The water lily is not susceptible to disease and is rarely attacked by insects. The plant is quite strong immunity.

However, in the hot months, in the stagnant bodies of water, the Nymphaea leaf beetle, a small brown beetle, often settles, the larva of which devours floating leaves.

The method of dealing with it is simple, damaged foliage is removed, and the larvae will have to be collected manually, since most insecticides are dangerous for water bodies, causing poisoning and death of living creatures.

Another enemy of the “queen of the ponds” can be called aphids. Small insects spoil the appearance of the flower and cause premature flowering of the plant. The fight against aphids involves only a mechanical method, for example, washing off harmful insects with a stream of water. Bringing entomophages to a pond can also be a life-saving option in pest control.

The main problem of extinction of water lilies today is not pests and diseases, but constantly worsening ecology and human intervention in the population of the plant species.

Drainage of water bodies, the collection of water lilies on an industrial scale, led to the catastrophic extinction of this amazing and beautiful plants. Some species of nymphs are already listed in the Red Book and if the “man” does not come to their senses, we can completely lose one of the most beautiful flowers on Earth.

Plant description

Water lily belongs to the family Nymphaeaceae and has more than 50 varieties. Flowers with pointed petals and rhizomes floating on the water. Leaves petiolate. Size varies depending on the affiliation. The underwater part consists of cord roots, and in the fruiting season a multi-seedling with a mucous membrane develops there. After ripening, seeds float on the surface, then sink to the bottom and germinate. This is the way natural reproduction occurs. In the diameter of the water lily reaches 15 cm, and its sheet - up to 30 cm.

The most common types of water lilies are:

  • snow-white (N. candida) with a strong aroma,
  • white (N. alba) - differs abundant flowering and application in medicine of all parts of the plant,
  • tetrahedral (N. tetragona) - Siberian beauty with small leaves and buds,
  • dwarf (N. pygmaea) - includes many ornamental varieties for shallow reservoirs,
  • hybrid (N. hybridum).

Often, water lilies and pods are ranked as one species, which is not entirely true. Although nugget (yellow water lily) is often found in the reservoirs of our country and also belongs to the genus Nymphaeaceae. It does not have the same spectacular flower as the nymph for the pond, but is often used for Japanese gardens.

Chemical composition and distribution

The composition of the rhizomes and seeds of nymphea contains the following substances:

  • glycoside nymphaline - has a sedative and analgesic effect,
  • alkaloid nimfein - has a beneficial effect on the nervous system,
  • essential oils,
  • tannins, or tannins,
  • starch up to 50% in leaves,
  • sugar up to 20%
  • amino acids.

The leaves contain flavonoids, oxalic acid, promoting calcium absorption, and tannins. Nymphaea prefers a bright sun, the shadow interferes with the photosynthesis of large leaves. Bud also reacts to the light: it dissolves with the sunrise, and at sunset it hides under water. For the water lily to take root and grow well, it needs standing water or a very small flow.

The water lily is a characteristic plant for freshwater bodies of Russia and Europe. It also grows in the Middle East and is introduced as a culture in China, Australia and New Zealand.

Medicinal properties and harm

In addition to the decorative qualities of the water lily has medicinal properties. The root of the plant helps from hair loss, treats constipation, gastritis, enuresis. Freckles will leave after regular wiping problem areas with water lily juice.
Pharmacology uses various components of the plant:

  • as part of the collection Zdrenko for the treatment of oncology and ulcerative diseases of the gastrointestinal tract,
  • for the manufacture of drugs that stimulate the heart,
  • to fight staphylococcus and salmonella,
  • in psychotropic medications,
  • to regulate blood pressure.

Traditional medicine widely uses water lily flowers at elevated temperatures, insomnia and nervous diseases, diseases of the urogenital system.

However, the use should be treated with caution, as the plant is toxic, especially in its raw form.
