Statica people called immortelle. And it is also called Kermec, limonium. Statica is a perennial grass or shrub with basal leaves, which form a large rosette and with dense pubescent stems in height from 30 to 90 cm. The flowers have a bright color of different colors. They are white, bright yellow, blue, purple, crimson, pink and scarlet.
Static flowers formed in spikeletthat forms brushes and panicles. The flowering plant begins in July and ends with the arrival of frost, and its seeds do not lose their germination 4–5 years. As a weed, a plant is not whimsical, but gardeners fell in love with it not only because of this quality.
One of the advantages of statics is a high immunity to diseases and pests, lack of moisture and other adverse external factors. The composition of the soil for flowers statics does not matter, they do not require special care and fertilizing. The plant does not like only stagnant water in the roots, shade and frost, because of this it is grown only in the middle lane.
Static cut flowers can stand in a vase for several years without losing their decorative qualities. That is why florists use them as flower arrangements for interior decoration.
There are two types of statics:
Since it is very difficult to grow statice from seeds, some prefer perennials.
Growing statice from seeds at home
To get bright colored colors you must follow the technology of growing statice. Her seeds are covered with ribbed shells. Most often, the seeds that are sold in stores, have already been cleared of the fruit, so experienced gardeners recommend planting the whole fruit in the ground. Sowing seedlings for seedlings should be started in February or March in boxes with moist soil. Then they are sprinkled with a small layer of soil and covered with glass or film.
The boxes are kept at a temperature of +16 .. +21 degrees, it is necessary to water regularly. Shoots will appear in 1.5-2 weeks. When two leaflets sprout on the saplings, they dive into separate disposable glasses. Planting seedlings in open ground begins in late April or early May. For landing, choose a place well lit by the sun.
The plant loves loamy or sandy soil. It also does not tolerate transplantation, so a hole is dug with a depth equal to the size of the cup. Next, the plastic is cut off, the plant is planted in the finished recess and watered. It is recommended to add salt to the water: 1 tablespoon per 10 liters. For the full growing season of the plant, the distance when planting seedlings in open ground should be 25-35 cm.
With the observance of simple conditions, the cultivation of a stature does not amount to much trouble. Growing conditions are as follows:
- If the plant grows on poor soil, then you need to make complex fertilizers before flowering 1 time per week.
- Water with lightly salted water is necessary as the soil dries. The plant does not like the excess moisture in the soil, and its drying.
Due to the fact that the plant is unpretentious in content, it is able to give odds to the most malicious weeds and will grow well without your participation. But, you should not leave her to the mercy of fate and, if possible, give her a little attention:
- When it rains it is not necessary to water it. When there is a drought to moisten the soil is also not required. Just twice per season pour it with salted water at the rate of 6-7 tsp. salt in 1 bucket of water and will be enough.
- Periodically loosen the soil under the bushes.
- If the soil where the stat is growing is enriched with nutrients, then fertilization is not required. If the plant grows in poor soil, then after planting shrubs in 7-10 days, they are watered with a solution of complex fertilizer. Then continue feeding every 2-4 weeks.
At this all the care can be considered complete. In September, feeding is stopped so that the bushes can prepare for winter.
Statica is a frost-resistant representative of the genus., it can withstand a temperature drop of minus 30 degrees, but it is necessary to carefully prepare the landing for such severe tests. In the fall, as soon as the leaves begin to turn yellow and dry, it is necessary to cut the plant at the root and cover it with straw, leaves, brushwood and cover it with a non-woven fabric from above. This blanket will protect not only from frost, but also from the melting spring waters.
If you are fond of floristics, do not throw away the cut inflorescences, but bundle them up and hang them to dry in a ventilated room. They make wonderful compositions. Dried flowers harvested in this way will remain bright and attractive for a whole year.
Cultivating statics: description of several ways
Sea lavender is distinguished by its special endurance. Thanks to a well-developed root system (a long root in the form of a rod), it perfectly survives on sand dunes and in loose soils. Therefore, the cultivation of Kermeve notched out of seeds does not require special preparation. It is only necessary to determine the following points:
- planting time
- sprouting method: in a pot or in a greenhouse,
- composition of planting substrate
- technology of preparation of seeds for planting.
Since limonium grows near the shores of the sea and rivers, it is planted in windy and well-lit areas. The soil should be sandy or have a crumbly structure. Air circulates well in such a ground and water does not stagnate.
Statica in the people and different parts of the world is called limonium, sea lavender, immortelle or kermec.
Growing a village from seed: what a gardener sows, he will reap
The collection of planting material is recommended to be carried out in the middle of summer, when the seeds ripen. From tiny bolls, grains are obtained very carefully. Then they are placed in a glass jar and tightly closed so as not to get air. In early spring, when you can plant statics on seedlings, they get them and start sowing.
Limonium is planted in pots in mid-February. To grow a culture in the greenhouse, sowing is carried out in late March or early April. By that time, the temperature of the earth becomes optimal for growing statice from seeds, when planting it is not so risky.
Containers with drainage holes are thoroughly washed and then disinfected. At the bottom of each lay a layer of expanded clay. Tanks are filled with peat or purchased soil substrate for seedlings. It should be light, loose. To do this, add 1 part of sand to it. Earth is also spilled with boiling water or a solution of potassium permanganate to kill all fungi and bacteria. Then carry out the following activities:
- abundantly watered the ground with warm water
- waiting for the fluid to drain,
- form grooves up to 2 cm deep,
- seeds are evenly sown in them,
- top with a thin layer sprinkled with a mixture of sand and peat,
- moisturize again
- Cover with foil, glass or flexible plastic cover.
The container is placed in a room where the temperature is about 18-22 ° C and the air humidity is 50-60%. This is one of the secrets of how to grow stats faster than usual. Then shoots will appear in 2-3 weeks in the form of several full leaves. Next, you need to dive for 3 pieces in separate pots filled with peat and sand (each component in a flat part). A month later, the seedlings are seated one by one in different containers.
Every day, seedlings are aired and watered with a spray bottle. It is not necessary to allow both drying and over-wetting of the soil.
On a flower bed and in a front garden saplings transfer in the middle of May. The gardener should not be afraid of the return of frosts, because limonium successfully endures them, although there are exceptions.
Growing statice in open ground
Many farmers decide to sow the crop immediately on the garden bed. It is advised to plan the event in April, when the earth and air warms up to 18-20 ° C.
Since the seed coat is very dense, it will have to be destroyed in a piecewise fashion. The sharp ends of the grains gently smooth out the emery paper. After that, they are placed in sawdust moistened with warm water, and left for 2-3 days. In another case, planting material is placed in a solution with a growth activator for several hours.
The stratification procedure is followed by planting the tree in an open field and caring for its shoots. It is important to observe the following rules:
- dig up the earth with humus,
- level the surface with a rake,
- make rows at a distance of 20 cm from each other,
- form grooves at a depth of 2 cm,
- sow the seeds in steps of 10-15 cm
- fill the bed with sand mixture: peat and sand,
- carefully water the area with warm water.
When germs appear, it is necessary to thin the planting. The gardener must remove weak and unhealthy seedlings so that the space between the specimens is not less than 30 cm. Then they will fully grow and not interfere with each other.
Features care for limonium
Decorative kermek largely depends on the proper watering and making timely fertilizing. Moreover, you need to know how to properly cut and dry dried flowers. Slightly above were given tips, as well as photos of planting limonium and caring for seedlings, seedlings. In the process of their growth it is also important to carry out such procedures:
- Watering. The culture belongs to the group of drought-resistant plants, therefore the soil is moistened only in the period of prolonged drought. Under the root of the bush make up to 300 ml of liquid.
- Top dressing. The event is carried out at the beginning of the landing. Complex mineral fertilizers are added to the soil with the calculation of 3-5 kg per one hundred parts of the earth. Poor soil is fertilized every 15 days with organic matter.
- Preparing for the winter. Sea lavender (only a perennial variety) can withstand temperatures as low as –30 ° C. Nevertheless, experts recommend covering it with winter twigs, straw and leaves for the winter, covering all this with non-woven material. Before this, the stems are cut at the root.
In the spring, it is important to remove shelter in time to protect the plant from waterlogging. Then the melting snow will not flood the landing. At this stage, the cultivation of statistics almost ends, because many varieties of crops are annuals.
Some farmers add salt to the water for irrigation: they take 2 tablespoons of preservative for 10 liters. The compounds of this mineral have a beneficial effect on the root system of the plant.
Static varieties that make the heart beat faster
A luxurious bouquet of bright flowers of kermek awakens the feelings of even the most serious people. This plant is very popular with pragmatic natures, because it preserves its decorative effect for half a year. Gardeners will love to grow limonium, as it is not whimsical to care for. It remains only to choose the appropriate grade.
Statica Blinking - a scattering of gems
In a flowerbed, these flowers look like real gems. On tall stems (up to 80 cm), flower shields grow. Most of all gardeners love the statics shimmer for a variety of bright colors. Dried cups with corrugated edges are painted in such shades:
This unique multi-colored placer will be a highlight of landscape design. Contrast bouquets can be a lovely decoration for both the central and rear zones of a small front garden.
Cutting the stems is necessary only after the budding of all the buds. At the same time, they can fade in the sun or grow brown, so do not need to delay with this.
Statica German or when snow falls in July
One of the bright colors in nature is white. To highlight the top of the alpine slide, you can use the Germanic statics as an ornamental plant. When the culture blooms, it conquers all passersby with its snow-white cloud. However, if you look at the flowers, in their middle there is a burgundy little star hiding. And flower patches themselves are more reminiscent of the ear than the inflorescence.
The variety is recommended to grow through seedlings: from March to May. In August or at the beginning of September, limonium is transferred to the site, which will serve as its permanent residence.
Statica German is a perennial plant. The bush reaches 40 cm in height. Kremek begins to bloom in mid-June or in July.
Statica Suprima pink - reflection of tenderness
Powerful erect stems topped with delicate buds of the shade of an ash rose. It is in this elegant form that the supreme pink statice conquered many flower lovers. Its coloring is an invariable advantage of a grade as it keeps its decorative effect longer than all. Bush culture grows up to 75 cm, funnel-shaped flowers reach 1 cm
Statica Crimean mix - the leader among dried flowers
The successful combination of 7 shades in the colors of the statics of the Crimean mixture makes the grade the most popular to create unique arrangements. Bouquets and compositions come to life thanks to the harmony of a bright palette, which consists of such colors:
Some of them are from the same spectrum, which makes the composition monochrome. Others are too contrasting, but together they look spectacular.
Statica Blue - cool shade in exquisite performance
One of the popular varieties is the Statica Blue, which is often confused with a variety of talismans. Difference of these two types is the coloring. The dark blue inflorescences of the Kermec mascot are complemented by single snow-white buds that resemble stars in the night sky.
For elegant and seasoned in the same style oranzherovok more suitable monochrome varieties of limonium.
From the above, it can be noted that the cultivation of statistics is a fascinating and enjoyable activity. Moreover, the culture will be enjoyed by a busy gardener, as it is picky in caring.
Statica is a perennial or annual semi-shrub plant with a height of one and a half meters. The leaves are large, strongly elongated, erect, growing from the root rosette. Stems hollow inside, devoid of leaves at the top.
Peduncles very high. At the ends are inflorescences in the form of an ear or a candle. The flowers are lush, openwork, the petals abundantly fill the calyx. The color of the flowers is varied: yellow, blue, blue, purple, pink. As a rule, flowers are painted in several different shades. The flowering period falls on the middle or the end of summer, in natural conditions the statice grows like a perennial.
Flower statica attracts the attention of extraordinary beauty and unpretentiousness in the care. In the wild, the plant grows in the desert or semi-desert. Therefore, it is not sensitive to the lack of moisture and nutrients in the soil.
The plant does not require too much attention to itself, it is able to multiply by self-sowing, occupying large areas every year. A negative effect on the flower can only have the absence of sunlight and too wet soil.
Variety of species
Currently, statice's popularity is growing. Ornamental horticulture uses several varieties of plants that differ in size and color of the flower.
- Statica Golden. A low plant with bright yellow or orange flowers. Along the edges of the petals is a white rim.
- Margaritolist. The flower has bright purple petals. Variety blooms long enough.
- Bondelli. Differs in dwarf sizes. The height does not exceed 20 centimeters. The flowers of this statice are blue with white trim. The flowering period lasts all summer and ends in late October.
- Statica Chinese. This is a relatively new hybrid variety. It is grown as an annual plant. Plant height reaches 70 centimeters. Flowers delicate openwork, painted white or cream color.
- Gmelin. A perennial plant of medium size. The flowers are purple in clusters inflorescences. This species easily tolerates lower temperatures in the winter.
- Germanic. A low plant, reaching a height of 40 centimeters. Petals are painted white. It has a high drought resistance, tolerates frost well. The plant is widely used for decoration mixborders and alpine slides.
- Blue north. Tall plant with small blue flowers, collected in inflorescences. Used for registration of flower beds, rabatok, rock gardens.
Statica: description of main varieties and varieties
Statica is a well-known immortelle. Some of this plant is known by other names - "Limonium" or "Kermek". Statica - one-year, but in most cases - a perennial shrub or small shrub, reaching about 1.5 m.
Its leaves are straight, strongly elongated, most often basal, rather large, gathered in a beautiful rosette. Stems from the plant are straight, almost devoid of leaves at the top, densely pubescent.
Flowering spike, with flower cups filled with petals of white, yellow color and a large number of blue, purple, pink shades. The flowers of the plant are most often painted in several different shades. The peak of flowering occurs in mid-summer.
Attention! Although some gardeners recommend growing statice as an annual plant due to its poor frost resistance, experienced gardeners recommend trying at least once to grow the plant as a perennial, since this process is quite laborious and laborious.
Statica surprises with its variety of varieties, among which everyone will find something to their liking:
- Statica vyemchataya.
Due to its characteristics, it is grown in the middle lane mainly as an annual. The shrub is quite large: it can reach a height of about 0.7 cm. The external distinguishing feature of a plant is small, snow-white / cream flowers, as if woven from lace.
- Kermek Bondwelli. Tall variety, reaching 1.5 m in height. Grown as a perennial. Inflorescences are represented by loose tassels of white / yellow shades.
- Statica broadleaf. A spherical plant, covered with a large number of long broad leaves and small purple flowers.
- Statica Gmelin. Unpretentious perennial, featuring medium height: rarely reaches a height of 0.5 m. It is considered one of the most cold-resistant varieties. The bluish-purple flowers are collected in fairly large shield-like inflorescences.
It does not matter whether you plan to grow a statice at home or in the open field: high-quality and generous shoots can be achieved only by seed. Experts do not recommend plant reproduction by vegetative means, since the root system of the statice is so sensitive that it can simply not transfer the transplant.
You can get plant seeds in almost any specialty store, but not everybody can germinate them qualitatively. The breeding process is quite laborious and complicated, but with the observance of some rules you will certainly be able to carry it out.
So, the first thing you need to carefully prepare the seed for planting. Since the seeds are long ribbed shells, it is not recommended to clean them. But if this is not done, the material will sprout extremely slowly. In this case, there is a small trick: just enough to walk a little on the seed surface with an emery paper and then soak in a wet mixture of sawdust and epin.
Seeds are planted immediately in separate containers (this is necessary in order not to further damage the delicate root system of the plant). For these purposes, standard peat pots are quite suitable.
For planting seeds, a special prepared mixture is used, which is also desirable to prepare in advance:
- Add some sand to the soil.
- Thoroughly sift the soil substrate to clean it from small debris, including twigs, pebbles, etc.
- Warm in the oven a couple of hours at about 100 degrees.
- Water the soil with weak potassium permanganate to protect future plants from pests and diseases.
- Moisten the soil slightly with warm water.
Prepared seeds spread on the ground (this process is carried out approximately at the beginning of spring), previously laid out in separate containers, and lightly sprinkled with soil. Then be sure to cover the containers with glass or plastic and leave for 10-16 days in a bright cool place (at a temperature of about 20 degrees). After this time, the first shoots should appear.
As soon as the shoots take root in pots, it is possible to plant the plants in open ground. Usually this process is carried out already at the end of spring, when the last winter frosts recede (if the region is cold enough, it is better to land at the beginning of summer).
Planting in open ground
As you already know, shade is a risk factor for statice, so a place to plant a plant should be extremely sunny and warm. Do not be afraid to carry out the cultivation in the windy area, because the statics are not afraid of drafts and winds. Any soil will be suitable for the plant, but if possible, it is better to plant in light sandstone / loam with a neutral / slightly alkaline medium.
Static seedlings should be handled with extreme care, and the holes should be prepared for planting the same size as the peat pots, so that the whole earthen room can be placed in the pits. After embedding plants in the wells, be sure to pour them with brackish water (1 tablespoon salt per 10 liters of water).
Irrigation and dressing mode
Remember that when growing a flower practically does not need moisture, so watering should be extremely rare. So, in the summer, when it is hot, it is enough to water the statics 1 time in 1.5 months.
Watering should be carried out under the root, always defended with warm water (preferably in the evening). One of the irrigations for the whole season should be necessarily salted water (about 6 tablespoons of salt per bucket of water). Do not forget also periodically loosen the soil around the plants.
Top dressing is something that the site doesn’t really need, but if the soil in your garden area is not nutritious, it’s best to ensure that the plant gets enough minerals. For the first time, mineral fertilizer is applied to the soil in 7-10 days after planting. After that, the frequency of fertilization will depend on the value of the soil (1 time in 2-5 weeks). With the onset of autumn feeding stop. If the soil is very fertile, the plant will not need fertilizer at all.
Fight against diseases and pests
The plant is rarely sick. Gardeners note that the statica is one of the strongest plants in terms of resistance to pests and diseases. Its damage occurs in extremely rare cases, and with proper care you can forget about the word "disease".
But in some cases, a nuisance may occur: the statics will fall ill with botrytis. In this case, the disease may be triggered by excessively abundant watering or rainy summer. Any fungicide will help in the fight against the disease. In some cases, the plant is damaged by oidium. To eliminate the disease, it is enough to spray the statics with a sulfur-containing drug several times.
Combination with other plants in the garden
Statica can be with proper care, a great decoration for any garden. European landscape designers for more than a decade have used this plant as the main decorative element in group flower arrangements.
So, statice is perfect for decorating a bright mixborder, decorating a garden border, rock garden. By the way, statice can be a wonderful “solo” in any garden: you just need to select a separate corner for the plant and enjoy the result in a luxurious bright floral carpet.
It is worth noting that winter-hardy Kermek varieties perfectly winter in the open field. It is enough only at the end of the autumn to cut the stems to ground level, cover them with a hand-stalk or straw and cover them with a protective waterproof material from above. The plant will survive the winter well.
That's all the subtleties that you should know in order to successfully grow statice in your garden. Good luck!

Flowers statice (Kermek) - description
Kermek Tatar is a perennial grass or dwarf shrub with large, often basal leaves, forming a large rosette, and straight, leafless, but densely pubescent stems in height from 30 to 90 cm. Small five-membered flowers of Kermek with white, yellow, blue, blue, purple cups salmon, pink, crimson or purple are collected in spikelets, which form shields or panicles. Static flowering lasts from July until frost, and the seeds do not lose their germination 4-5 years.
The Kermek plant is unpretentious, like a weed, but it has won popularity with gardeners not only for this quality. The advantage of statics is its high resistance to diseases and pests, moisture deficiency and other adverse external factors. Kermek flowers are indifferent to the composition of the soil, practically do not require care and do not really need additional feeding. The plant does not tolerate only stagnant water in the roots, shade and frost, so in the middle strip Kermek perennial grown in annual crops.
The perennial Kermek reproduces itself spontaneously, blooms profusely, its fringed panicles are cut for a long time, so florists often use statics to create compositions and bouquets, including dry ones.
Sowing statics on seedlings.
Before sowing seedlings, the seeds of kerke, enclosed in a dense shell, it is advisable to scarify: walk on their noses with an emery paper or coarse sawing, and then keep them for several hours in Epin's solution or hold for 2-3 days in wet sawdust.
Sow statics for seedlings in February or early March, laying one seed in humus or peat pots with a moist, loose, sterile substrate. Top seeds sprinkled with a thin layer of soil, cover crops with glass and contain at a temperature of 16-21 ºC. Under such conditions, seedlings may appear already in 10-18 days. If you are in a hurry, use a bottom heating system, and then the seeds will germinate earlier.
Care for seedlings statice.
Growing a seed cake from the seed implies daily airing of the crops, and after the seedlings appear, it is necessary to water the plants regularly and carefully loosen the soil around them. If you grow seedlings in a box, container, or in small-sized cassettes, the seedlings of the two true leaves are sown in separate cups or pots. Do not tighten with a picking: the statics are too voluminous and rapidly developing root system with a long taproot.
In mid-April, begin to conduct tempering procedures: take the containers with seedlings to the open air daily, gradually increasing the duration of the walk. When statice of seeds can be spent outside the apartment all day, it can be planted in the garden.
When to plant statice in the ground.
Choose a sunny spot for the plant, because the shadow is destructive to it. The site can be open and exposed to the wind, which the plant is not afraid. The soil is preferable to a well-drained, loamy or sandy, neutral or slightly alkaline reaction, although by and large any soil is suitable for Kermek. Seedlings are planted in the garden no earlier than June, since in May there may still be return frost.
How to plant statice in the garden.
Due to the fact that the seedlings of the static do not tolerate the transplant, the wells need to be made so deep that they fit the entire contents of the cup, that is, the root system with an earthy ball. Plastic cups are carefully cut and removed, the plant is placed in the hole, sealed and sprinkled with salted water (1 tablespoon of salt per 10 liters of water). The distance between the holes, depending on the grade of Kermek observed in the range of 25-40 cm
Growing statice in the garden.
Statica in the open ground will grow without your participation. What is caring for her? In rare irrigation and soil loosening around the bushes with simultaneous removal of weeds. Watering is needed only in those cases when the leaves begin to lose turgor. If summer will be with rains, you can not water the plant at all, but from time to time it is advisable to loosen the soil from time to time. In the dry summer, Kermek is watered twice per season, and one of these irrigations is carried out with salted water, dissolved in a bucket of water 7 teaspoons of salt.
Watering is carried out at the root, in the evening, using separated and heated water per day.
Growing statics does not require mandatory dressings, but if it grows in poor soil, it is better to make them all the same. It is advisable to carry out the first top-dressing with a solution of complex mineral fertilizer one week after transplanting into the ground, and then, depending on the fertility of the soil, it is fertilized once every 2-4 weeks. From September, feeding is stopped. Static growing in fertile soil, you can not feed.
Pests and diseases of statics.
In a rainy summer or as a result of frequent and abundant watering, statics on a flower bed can get botrytis - the rot of vegetable crops, which can be eliminated by treating the bushes with a fungicide solution. Sometimes a white mold appears on the plant - a sign of oidium disease. In this case, you should resort to spraying kermek sulfur-containing drug. In general, statics are extremely rarely damaged by pests and diseases, and with good care this does not occur at all.
Planting statice and caring for it, even a novice gardener, and if you manage to grow seedlings of Kermek, then in the future no difficulties are foreseen.
Statica after flowering.
Some types of statice can withstand temperatures down to -30 ºC, but these plants require some preparation for winter. When the winter-hardy Kermek begins to turn yellow and dry, cut its leaves and stems at ground level, then cover it with straw, needles, leaves or brushwood, and lay a non-woven covering material on top of them that will protect Kermek not so much from frost in winter as in spring from melt water. The material needs something to press to the ground.
From cut statues inflorescences can be made dry bouquets. Cut the inflorescences before they start to dry and fade in the sun. After cutting, they are kept upside down and suspended in a well-ventilated, gloomy room until dry. Dried Kermec flowers retain the brightness of their cups for over a year.
Kermek broadleaf (Limonium latifolium)
- plant 60-75 cm tall with large basal leaves and blue-violet flowers, gathered in a spreading paniculate inflorescence. The best varieties of this species are:
- – Violetta - a plant with dense-purple buds,
- – Blue cloud - variety with lavender flowers.
Kermek Perez (Limonium perezii)
- a species common in the Canary Islands, where it was introduced to the culture. Statue Perez is a plant with shoots up to 60 cm high and decorative large inflorescences of purple hue, which florists willingly use for both fresh and dry compositions.
Kermek Chinese (Limonium sinensis)
introduced into culture relatively recently. In temperate climates, this perennial is cultivated as an annual plant with a rosette of glossy dense leaves, from the center of which numerous thin peduncles rise from 50 to 70 cm in height, bearing openwork inflorescences of small yellow flowers surrounded by cream or white funnel-like perianth. The best grades of Chinese statics:
- – Confetti - plant 45-50 cm tall with elegant white-cream inflorescences,
- – Elegant - variety up to 70 cm in height with the same creamy white flowers.
Extruded Kermek (Limonium sinuatum)
originally from Asia Minor and the Mediterranean. It is a herbaceous perennial cultivated in annual crops. Stems in plants of this species up to 60 cm in height, numerous oblong thin basal leaves of a light green shade, pinodia-lobed or pinis-separate, are located on short petioles. Peduncles ascending or erect, branched at the top. In small flowers with a diameter of up to 1 cm dry pubescent wheel-shaped calyx pink, white or blue-violet and whitish or pale yellow corolla. In culture, this is the most popular species among gardeners since 1600. On sale you can find imported and domestic floral statite mixtures notched. For example:
- – Static Crimean - a mixture of plants with a height from 30 to 80 cm pink, blue, yellow or purple hue,
- – Mixed Highbreeds - varieties up to 45 cm in height with purple, white, yellow, blue and pink buds,
- – Statica Suprim - a series of varieties with a height of about 60 cm of different colors,
- – Chamo - a series of varieties up to 70 cm high in different shades of salmon color,
- – Fortress - the height of the bushes is 70-80 cm, the flowers are purple, yellow, white, blue or pink,
- – Compindi - a series of varieties with blue, blue and pink flowers on bushes up to half a meter,
- – Petite Bouquet series - compact bushes up to 30 cm high, richly covered with pastel-colored inflorescences: white, blue, lilac, pale pink or cream.
In addition to the multi-colored mixtures, you can purchase one-color varieties of stats notched:
Statica annual or perennial?
Kermec is a perennial (in regions with a cold climate grown as letnik) a herb or semi-shrub.
Statica has long been used in the landscape design of European countries, it is popular in the compilation of live and dry bouquets, because even after drying, the bright colors are preserved.
The height of an erect stem is 45-80 cm, it is pubescent, covered with narrow oblong leaves. The basal rosette of leaves is thick, at the root of the leaf plates are larger, with notched edges. The color of the leaves and the stem is light green.
В природной среде кермек распространен в Средиземноморье, Малой Азии, Северной Африке, культивируется повсеместно, иногда дичает (природные заросли можно встретить на Кавказе, в США).
Когда цветет статица кермек
The peak of limony bloom is in the middle of summer. individual inflorescences appear until mid-September.
The flowers themselves are small, inconspicuous. Brightness of flowering give cups, which can be white, bright blue, yellow, pink, red, crimson, shade. The inflorescence is spicate, has the form of a shield or panicle.
When to plant statice on seedlings
Seed propagation statice involves the cultivation of seedlings, since the culture is thermophilic.
- When growing seedlings in a greenhouse, crops are produced in the period of the end of March-mid-April (you need to wait until the soil warms up well).
- If you plan to grow Kermek seedlings indoors, start sowing at the end of February.

How to grow statice from seed? It is better to sow directly into individual containers (plastic cups, peat pots), so as not to disturb with an intermediate transplant, the root system of the plant is sensitive to this procedure.
Small oblong seeds with pointed tips are in a dense granulate fruit. On sale you can find seeds cleared from the seed box, but experienced gardeners recommend sowing with it. Soak them in warm water or growth stimulator solution for several hours, following the instructions.

For sowing requires light, loose soil, 1/3 of their sand. Before sowing, sift the soil, remove the twigs, lumps, debris, calcined in the oven for disinfection or spill with a solution of potassium permanganate. You can use a universal substrate for growing seedlings.
- When sowing, it is enough to spread the seeds over the soil surface and sprinkle with a small layer of soil (about 0.5 cm).
- Plant 1 seed in an individual container; when sowing in seedling boxes between individual plants, keep a distance of about 10 cm for comfortable development of the root system of plants.
- Spray the crops from a fine sprayer, cover the top with film or glass, the air temperature should vary between 15-22 ° C.
- Ventilate the crops daily, taking shelter for about 30 minutes.
- Moisten with a fine spray as the topsoil dries.
- Provide diffused lighting, you can additionally illuminate (and at the same time warm up) fluorescent lamps with a power of 60 W (enough lighting for 4-5 per day).
- Shoots will appear in about 10 days. Remove the shelter.

- Caring for seedlings involves moderate watering (lower watering or spraying from a fine sprayer).
- When growing in a seedling box, you will need to plant the plants in individual containers when they have 2 true leaves.
The grown seedlings are hardened outside, starting from two hours a day, and gradually increase their stay in the garden to full days. When the frosts are behind, limonium seedlings can be planted on a flower bed.
To bloom was lush and long, you need to choose a suitable site for growing Kermek.
The site should be well lit by the sun, direct sunlight does not harm the plant. In the shadows it develops slowly, it may not bloom at all. Avoid wet areas where moisture stagnates for a long time, ground water should be at a depth of at least 1m.
The soil requires a loose, well-drained, neutral or alkaline reaction. Heavy clay soils are strictly contraindicated. Sandy soils are perfect, feed the soil with fertilizers.
Statica when planting seedlings in the ground
When planting seedlings statically in open ground terms
When to plant statice in open ground? Transplant seedlings Kermek in the open ground spend with the establishment of this heat, when the threat of night frost is completely bypassed. In the middle lane and the Moscow region is about the third decade of May, sometimes earlier.
How to plant statics
- Replant the seedlings in the ground by transferring them, try to preserve as much as possible an earthy bed so that the seedlings take root.
- Make the holes according to the size of the root system, place the seedlings, fill the ground, press lightly with your palms.
- At the bottom of the planting pits make complex mineral fertilizers for flowering plants according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- After planting, the root neck should be level with the soil surface.
- Between individual plants keep a distance of about 30 cm.
How to water
The culture is drought resistant, better tolerate the lack of watering than excessive soil moisture. Most often, the plant is satisfied with the natural humidity, it is necessary to water only in the period of prolonged drought. Under one bush enough to make about 300 ml of water. Signal to watering becomes wilting leaves.
Watering preferably carried out in the evening, use warm water. You can put in the garden a container for collecting rainwater or upholding tap. Experienced growers recommend pouring salt solution once a season (7 teaspoons of salt per 10 liters of water).
How to feed
If the soil is nutritious, the plant does not need frequent top-dressings. It is enough to fertilize 3-4 times per season: during planting, during the budding period and a couple of times during the flowering period. When grown on depleted soil should be fed with complex mineral fertilizers at intervals of 15 days.
Periodically loosen the soil, act carefully so as not to damage the root system. Hand weed out weeds.
Diseases and pests
Diseases and pests plant is rarely damaged, and with proper care, the risks are reduced to zero.
If the weather is damp for a long time, Botrytis (rot) may be defeated. Treat with the appropriate fungicide.
Among the pests should be noted nematodes: angular spots appear on the leaf plates, at first they are yellow in color, then become brown. Remove affected areas, treat with insecticide.
Statica long-term preparation for winter
Some plant species are able to withstand temperatures as low as -30 ° C, but it is imperative to build a shelter
In the fall, when the plant begins to dry out, cut the stem under the root, thrash it with straw, dry leaves, sawdust, additionally cover it with nonwoven material, which should be well pressed to the ground (this will protect not only frost, but also a more dangerous phenomenon for Kermek thawed water ).

Planting and maintenance of statics in open ground
This unpretentious flower is not endowed with the blatant beauty of exotic plants, but it looks great on curbs, mixborders and rock gardens. It has strong immunity and is resistant to adverse environmental factors. It looks gorgeous in the composition of the vast monopositives, creating the impression of a color blanket, which is poured with many colors.
We are talking about statice, this modest beauty of the gardens. The article tells about the features of growing and caring for a plant in the open field.
Botanical description of statics
Statica (keremek, Chinese lemongrass, immortelle) is a flowering perennial or annual plant with upright densely pubescent stems up to 80 cm in height and a rosette of leaves (Figure 1).
Figure 1. Exterior color features
Flowers have a varied bright color. Lying in pairs, they form a cone inflorescence in the form of a shield or panicle. The peak of flowering falls on July.
Types and varieties
In the wild, statice is represented by more than two hundred species, however, in landscape design and floriculture, the most widespread are the following types:
- Statica Suvorov
- Statica Gmelin
- Kermec broadleaf (varieties Blue Cloud, Violetta)
- Kermek Perez
- Kermek Chinese (varieties Confetti, Elegant)
- Kermek Bondwelli
- Kermek notched (varieties Crimean mixture, Suprim, Shamo, Iceberg, Roseum, talisman, Apricot, Turbo, Blue River, etc.)
All the listed species and varieties have inflorescences of a wide variety of shades within a single plant (Figure 2).
However, there are varieties presented in only one color:
- Blue River (sky blue)
- Erikot (pink salmon)
- Lavendel (lavender)
- Iceberg (white)
- Nachtblau (dark blue)
- Rosenshimmer and American Beauty (rose-carmine)
Growing statice seeds
Growing seedlings of statics presents considerable difficulties even for experienced gardeners (Figure 3).
Therefore, multiplying seeds with Keremek, it is necessary to take into account all the slightest nuances:
- The seed needs stratification to facilitate the germination process, so walk around the seed coat with sandpaper.
- Stratified seeds should be soaked in a special solution “Epin” for several hours or placed in wet sawdust for 2-3 days.
- For sowing seeds of keremek, it is recommended to use a universal soil mixture.
- The nutrient substrate is laid out in separate peat cups and shed water. Separate containers are needed in order to remove the need to swoop down seedlings, because the plant is very painful for this procedure.
- Seeds are laid out on the surface of the soil, without deepening them.
- Crops are powdered with a thin layer of soil, covered with polyethylene and stored in a warm room at a temperature of +16 to +21.
- After the emergence of seedlings in 2-3 weeks, the care of the seedlings is carried out in the same way as when growing other garden crops: airing, watering, loosening, gradually hardening.
Planting statics in open ground
Since the root system of keremek grows very quickly, it is impossible to spend time with planting seedlings in open ground. Therefore, it is better to plant the plants immediately after the establishment of constant positive values of air temperature. As a rule, such weather conditions are set at the end of May - June.
Consider the rules of planting statics in open ground:
- The plant is light-requiring and does not tolerate the shadow,
- The interval between seedlings should be 30 cm
- A loose and well-drained soil is required.
Choosing a place for planting, you should know that this plant is light-requiring and even tolerates direct sunlight. The lack of light leads to slower development, lack of flowering and decay of the roots.
Note: Pay attention to the moisture permeability of the soil. Keremek absolutely does not tolerate stagnant water.
The ideal option for him would be calcareous or neutral in acidity soil. Since the static is sensitive to low temperatures, it is practiced in central Russia to grow it as an annual crop.
How is landing
Crop seedlings are planted in the open ground in May - June, choosing a well-lit place with drained soil (Figure 4). Planting holes should correspond in depth to the cup in which the seedlings were grown. Young plants, together with a lump of earth, are placed in the landing holes at a distance of 25-30 cm from each other. With all the rules of agrotechnology bloom immortelle will come in July and will continue until the end of October.
Peculiarities of care
Since statics is known for its unpretentiousness, it does not need any special care. It is necessary to carry out a complex of usual procedures: watering if necessary, weed control and loosening the soil. In a dry summer, it is recommended that one of the irrigations be carried out using salted warm water at the rate of 7 tsp. salt on a bucket of water. At the same time it is better to water under the root in the evening. Top dressing is necessary only for those landings that are on poor soil.
The author of the video shows in detail how flowers are planted in open ground.
Most often, keremek is grown as an annual crop, but there are varieties that are not afraid of even the most severe frosts with their appropriate preparation. So, after yellowing and drying of the bush, its leaves and stems are cut to the very surface of the ground. Then the plot with plantings is covered with natural materials: needles, fallen leaves, straw, brushwood, and additionally some non-woven material, which is designed to protect plants from flooding with melt water.
Figure 4. The main stages of planting in open ground
If you plan to use cut inflorescences to create bouquets, then you need to cut the flowers before they fade. Material for bouquets should be stored in a dark room in a suspended state until the inflorescences are completely dry.
Statica needs additional feeding only if it has been planted in the soil with low fertility. So, the first feeding is carried out one week after transplanting the seedlings to a permanent place using complex mineral fertilizer. The following feedings can be repeated every 2-4 weeks depending on the level of soil fertility. Starting in September, feeding should be stopped.
Statica refers to drought-resistant plants, so she does not need regular watering. It is carried out only when the leaves noticeably lose their turgor. In this case, plants can be watered only 2 times per season, using separated water at ambient temperature. Experienced growers are advised to carry out one of the irrigations using salted water (7 teaspoons of salt per 10 liters of water). It will be better if you add each shrub to the root.
Pests and diseases
Since statice is endowed with good natural immunity, it is extremely rarely affected by all sorts of pests or diseases. For example, in conditions of high humidity, spots of rot may appear on the parts of the plant, which are a sign of botrytis vegetable crops. Избавиться от них поможет опрыскивание керемека раствором фунгицида. Иногда она поражается белой плесенью. В таком случае прибегают к обработке кустарника каким-либо серосодержащим препаратом.
