Banana peel as a base for fertilizer

Fertilizer from banana peel in indoor gardening has been actively used for a long time, but in the Russian Federation its properties are not well known. This is most likely a legacy from the USSR, when citrus fruits on the periphery were regularly thrown into wide sale only on New Year's Eve, and bananas were “quoted” along with black caviar.

By the way, bananas do not grow palm trees, as it is written here and there. Bananas are herbaceous plants, with palms they are biologically and habitually (seemingly) in common little more than that of a fed-up crapworm or burdock. And by the way, besides dessert bananas, there are also canteen planters. They taste like potatoes, cook them the same way: they boil, fry, bake, stew. Even chips do. But back to our bananas, i.e. to their skins as raw materials for feeding plants.

Composition and action

Fertilizer for plants from banana peel is valuable rather high content of potassium and somewhat less phosphorus. Nitrogen in it is small, but there is calcium and magnesium. Familiar with agrochemistry it is clear that such a complex contributes to flowering and fruiting. Of course, if the basis for increasing the green mass - nitrogen - is also sufficient.

Magnesium is especially valuable for indoor plants that experience a chronic lack of light, because promotes photosynthesis. Fertilizing greenhouse plants with banana fertilizer will give the same beneficial effect, especially in the offseason, when there is not enough light in the greenhouse. However, the plants should receive good nutrition, and the soil should be optimally structured, without good work of the roots and leaves will be bent from the strain, but in the pot and in the greenhouse it is almost always a problem with nutritional value and soil structure. Therefore, in such cases it is necessary to combine fertilizing with banana skins with humates with fertilizing, especially since the latter will create a barrier for unwanted banana chemistry (see below). The cost of humates is low, and the cost of processing is scanty.

It is also possible to use non-trivial fertilizer from banana skins - for seedlings and seedlings. The fruits of bananas are removed unripe and subjected to processing that provides freshness for the period of transportation and ripening at the time of sale. As a result, an increased content of plant hormones - growth stimulants - is observed in the peel of commodity bananas. Sprouts under the influence of banana fertilizer root better and grow faster. But, again, with good nutrition and well-structured soil.

Contraindications and precautions

Nothing is perfect, and banana peel as a fertilizer is no exception to this rule. The value of bananas as a delicacy and vegetables is that they do not accumulate third-party substances in the edible flesh. Bananas are a kind of “smart” plants that do not squander the substances they need on a substance that is needed only to attract seed distributors. Although all cultural varieties of bananas are seedless, the natural biofilter remains in them, and breeders do not intend to get rid of it: this makes it possible to use agrochemistry intensively in banana culture.

When disposing of banana wastes, the advantage turns into a disadvantage: fertilizer from banana skins for fruit crops can be used to a limited extent or to prepare it in special ways, see below. “Banana biofilter” is precisely in the peel, and from a production and commercial point of view, this is another plus: it is possible to use chemistry to adjust the ripening of fruits, which is done - before transporting bananas from treated with ammonium sulfate and other substances that delay ripening, before shipment to distributors - with ethylene, “releasing the brakes” of maturity. Their residues in the peel, as well as pesticides (1-2 treatments per week for 7–9 months, bananas ripen for such a long time to commercial ripeness), must be removed during preparation of the fertilizer.

Note: washing does not remove undesirable substances from banana skins, as they sometimes say, because they are contained in the thickness of the rind.

Similarly, an internal biofilter, but less effective, has solanaceous and compositae, so fertilizer from banana skins can be used for tomatoes, eggplants and sunflower. A particularly strong effect is observed on the northern border of the distribution of these crops, but! Banana fertilizers from fresh raw materials can be used only for seedlings. At the stage of flowering and fruiting, it is possible to use as a raw material for the fertilizer composition of roasted and dried skins, but in the first case there will be no growth stimulants. For all other fruit / grain / bulbous food crops, except those indicated, banana peel fertilizers are not recommended.

Color fertilizer with banana-skin preparations is largely free of these limitations, but in this case, you need to know, firstly, that in a fresh banana peel there is in a small amount of substance, similar in action to papain contained in the milky juice of the unripe melon papaya fruit. Papains perfectly and without side effects soften hard meat, but can also destroy root hairs. Secondly, the concentration of nutrients in fresh banana peel is quite high. Therefore, it is possible to use raw skins of bananas only by placing them under the roots of seedlings (see fig.): Until the roots develop, the banana skin will rot in the soil.

Correct and improper feeding of flowers with raw banana skins

And if you put raw banana skins on the ground or mulch them with crushed soil, the effect may or may not appear, or turn out to be the opposite. That is why banana fertilizers in amateur conditions give a stable result for roses and ferns, although they are also suitable for other colors.

Note: fertilizer with raw banana skins for tomatoes can be made as for roses (see fig. above), but in the hole for each bush of the seedlings it is necessary to put half a peel, divided into strips 1-1.5 cm wide, and top dressing before planting seedlings sprinkled with earth to avoid direct contact of the roots with the skin. This method also increases the resistance of seedlings to frost, because when rotting a banana peel, its mass unit produces more heat than manure.

Raw material preparation

To make banana skins biologically inactive (with preservation of chemical activity in the form of mineral components) can be in the following ways:

  • Roasting in the oven or microwave with minimal warming is the worst way. All secondary organic matter is destroyed, but a significant part of the non-harmless products of its decomposition remains in the raw material. With the systematic use of this method in the oven chamber or stove produces a harmful and smelly plaque.
  • Brewing like tea is like roasting.
  • Drying on the battery or windowsill (you need to close the gauze from ants and flies) - most of the decomposition products of side substances evaporate, but during a sufficiently long process, rotting and fermentation of raw materials is possible.
  • Freezing in the freezer of the refrigerator - the end result is similar to drying, only rotting / fermentation is excluded. But you can destroy the refrigerator: the volatile decomposition products of organic byproducts ingrained in the plastic lining cannot be removed.
  • Scalding with boiling water: after 1-1.5 hours, the infusion is drained, and the mass is used for further processing - growth stimulants remain in the finished fertilizer, but some fraction of proteolytic substances (which can damage the roots) remain. In addition, a significant portion of the mineral component is lost.
  • Sawing outdoors in sunny weather - all mineral components and most of the growth stimulants remain, all other organic matter disappears without a trace. Skins, loose into strips of 1-1.5 cm, are strung by the tails onto a thread, like mushrooms, and are dried in the sunlight, and a breeze is also desirable. Outside temperature - from 15 degrees, just not damp.

The best way to make fertilizer from banana skins is a water extract. 3-4 rind prepared as described above (tails must be removed), put in a 3-liter jar and filled to the top with water. After 4-5 days, the infusion is poured and filtered (filtered). Shelf life in a tightly sealed container - up to a month or more, if there are no signs of fermentation. Immediately before use, the mother liquor is diluted twice with water.

However, it is necessary to prepare an infusion of banana skins with some precautions, since microorganisms are very readily established in it. Biologists and aquarists know that banana skins are an excellent nutrient medium for the culture of the infusorian shoe, and other protozoa. The procedure for preparing the infusion of banana peel step by step is as follows:

  1. Water for infusion is taken distilled or tap water boiled in an enamel kettle on gas for at least 10 minutes,
  2. Meanwhile, a stream of steam from the teapot spout is sucked inside the can,
  3. Scalded dishes are placed upside down on a clean cloth, as in the preparation for home canning,
  4. The same rag covers the teapot nose (do not forget to turn off the burner!),
  5. The infusion is made when the kettle cools to 50-40 degrees, i.e. to the touch will not burn,
  6. Immediately after loading the mass and pouring water into the jar, close the jar tightly and place it in a dark place for aging. It is highly desirable - in a cardboard box, because Sterilization with improvised means does not give a 100% guarantee against fermentation. The box will save the next things, suddenly the fermented bank will burst.

For a vegetable garden, a banana peel fertilizer can be made easier:

  • They collect a bucket of black soil or good oily garden soil.
  • Crush 3-10 skins (for tomatoes and eggplants, you can take fresh), spread in a bucket with the ground and mix thoroughly.
  • Water any sourdough for compost ("Baikal", etc.).
  • If there are many skins, then the mixture from the buckets is dumped into the barrel.
  • A month later, you can conduct dressing, mulching ripening mixture pristvolnye circles or soil under the bushes.

Note: for cabbage, root crops and green crops such fertilizer can not be used!

Ways to fertilize plants with raw banana skins are described above. A water extract from a banana peel, as already mentioned, is diluted 1: 1 with water immediately before application. Water for cultivation can be used water or irrigation, but if a portion of the infusion is not fully used, water for dilution should not get into the residue, i.e. Infusion is poured as needed, and the residue is tightly closed again. The application rate of the working solution:

  • Houseplants - once a week 1-2 tbsp. spoons for 2-3 liters pot capacity, provided that a clod of earth is completely permeated with roots.
  • Garden flowers - 0.5-1 glass per bush or curtain every 1-2 weeks. It is advisable to measure the required number of glasses, pour into a garden watering can, pour irrigation water and water the planting evenly.
  • Greenhouse crops - 0.5 cups per bush for tomatoes and 0.25 cups per bush for cucumbers. Application technology - as before. case.

For annual flowers for cutting it is also possible to use a fertilizer banana cocktail: fresh peel is ground in a blender with a glass of water and this cocktail is added to the irrigation water at the rate of 1-2 tbsp. spoons per pot / bush. Another option - the resulting gruel is dumped on a rag, the concentrate is allowed to fully drain, it is filtered and the plants are sprayed with a filtrate. Banana cocktail for plants provokes their rapid flowering, but perennials depletes to death. Very effective for forcing the lilies of the valley for the New Year.

Banana fertilizer and insects

Undoubtedly, the smell of bananas repels aphids, so rubbing banana leaves with fresh-skinned leaves is an effective way to make aphids lime in room conditions. However, there are quite a lot of sugars in the skins of bananas, which attracts flies and ants. Therefore, if an anthill is found at the site, it is necessary to fertilize from bananas no sooner than you can get rid of ants.

For a snack to bananas

For plants, of course. Tasty for them and nutrient fertilizers can be made not only from banana skins. Here, for example, below is a video about 12 homemade organic fertilizers from food waste. Some of the methods of preparation from our point of view look unappetizing, but the plants eat them with pleasure and a visible effect.

What is useful banana peel?

The skin of these fruits contains a full set of valuable substances for the activation of growth, full bloom and fruiting plants. Most of all there potassium, in a smaller amount - calcium, magnesium, phosphorus. There is still a small proportion of nitrogen. However, it is enough for the seedlings to gain green mass. Fertilizer works effectively on the basis of cleaning bananas for indoor and greenhouse crops that are systematically deficient in light. Magnesium is a catalyst for photosynthesis. It compensates for the lack of sun, if the seedlings will receive a full amount of food and grow in a well-structured soil. Without root support, leaf work will be ineffective.

Council In this regard, the introduction of dressings on the basis of banana cleanings combined with the introduction of humates. The cost of one and the other fertilizer is low, while the benefits are substantial.

As a rule, bananas break green. Ripen fruit on the way to the counter. In this case, a lot of plant growth hormones remain in the skin. When fertilizing seedlings, they will help the seeds to take root and grow faster. True, even without the simultaneous development of roots, there will be no result.

Contraindications to the use of fertilizers

Dessert bananas for food are valuable because their pulp does not accumulate harmful substances from the side. The biological filter is the rind. Therefore, before cooking fertilizer, learn that there is probably a lot of chemistry in the waste. For example, after harvesting bananas are treated with ammonium sulfate, which inhibits ripening. Wholesale distributors, on the contrary, process the fruit with ethylene, which will bring the fruit to commercial ripeness in time for getting to the counter.

On a garden bed, the chemical compounds in the peel will not harm tomatoes, sunflowers, eggplants, and other hard-to-color and solanated crops. But in this case they apply cleaning only after processing: curing or smoking. Keep in mind that while in the composition of the feed will not be growth hormones. For cabbage, greens and root crops banana peel in any form can not be used.

Attention! Fresh banana shells may be used exclusively for seedlings of garden crops or for flower dressing.

How to make banana peel based fertilizer

Fresh peeling bananas make when planting strictly under the root of the seedling. The goal of any peel treatment is to rid it of by-products, while retaining useful chemical activity. This can be done in the following ways:

  1. Drying on the battery, followed by grinding. Raw material is rolled up in gauze so as not to attract insects. So you get almost pure potassium. Much of the negative substances decompose. True, there is a risk of rotting or fermentation of the skin.
  2. Roast on low heat in the oven. So you get rid of excess organics, but some of the harmful substances remain. With repeated use on the walls of the oven appears plaque with an unpleasant smell.
  3. Brewing tea. Do not get rid of many negative impurities.
  4. Freezing Bananas generally can not be stored in the refrigerator. Therefore, use a container with an airtight lid to prevent the appliances from smelling bad from the inside. But fermentation in such a peel just will not.

Banana peel water extract

This feeding is considered the most effective:

  • 4 skins without tails placed in a 3-liter jar,
  • fill with water to the edge and leave for 4-5 days,

  • strain infusion through cheesecloth,
  • close the dishes tightly and use.

In general, people speak positively about the benefits of fertilizers based on banana peel. But they note that it is difficult to make them. For example, in the manufacture of water infusions it is important that the container for them is sterile. Otherwise, the simplest organisms quickly master and grow on the surface of the skin.

The gardener's primary task in preparing a banana peel for the garden is to get rid of pesticides and enhance the beneficial properties of the cleanings. Otherwise, fertilizer may become harmful.

The benefits of banana peel for plants

Banana peel as a fertilizer in gardening is not new, it has been used for a long time. The advantages of home feeding, compared with store counterparts, are that the first product does not contain chemical additives. The benefits of banana peel:

  • improvement of microflora and soil improvement,
  • harmless growth stimulation
  • strengthening immunity
  • stimulation of the fight against diseases and pests,
  • saturation with beneficial microelements, as a result - plants are less painful to tolerate transplantation, lack of sunlight and heat.

Chemical composition

The amount of water in the skins depends on the time of harvest, the degree of maturity of the fruit, its shelf life. This component composition has found practical use of banana peel in industrial production.

Virtually every mineral or organic component is a useful substance necessary for the normal development and functioning of the organic system of a person, animal or plant. Their consumption is necessary, otherwise the general malaise of the body develops. Receiving nutrients from banana peels should be correct, because they also contain some of the harmful toxic elements that accumulate in the skin.

Mechanism of action

Having studied the composition of the peel, it is immediately clear that such waste is ideal for feeding plants. The mineral complex, which is part of the fruit and skin, is useful for growth, development, flowering and fruiting. The skin of vegetables and fruits very often contains a rich vitamin and mineral composition - this was a prerequisite for the use of banana peel in horticulture. When all these trace elements decompose, it feeds the roots perfectly, stimulating active growth and flowering.

The skin contains a large amount of plant growth hormone, because fruits are ripped off by the underperforming and treated with substances for ripening at the time of sale. Top dressing from banana peel activates seed germination, rooting seedlings, the development of young shoots. This fertilizer is used to stimulate the growth of seedlings of vegetables, feeding greenhouse crops or indoor plants, especially those who do not have enough solar heat and light. Magnesium contributes to photosynthesis, so winter greenhouse and houseplants will have to “taste”.

Application features

Fresh banana peels contain substances similar in effect to papain - used in cooking to soften hard meat, but capable of destroying the root system. In addition, the concentration of useful components in the fresh product is great, so you can apply fresh peel only by placing it under the roots, but with an obligatory layer of soil. To make banana skins inactive biologically, with preservation of the mineral composition, in the following ways:

  1. Drying in the oven or microwave oven at minimum power is not the most suitable method, since most of the harmful decomposition products of organic matter remain in the product.
  2. Fry in a dry frying pan, over low heat.
  3. Brewing boiling water - is equivalent to the first method.
  4. Natural drying in the sun or the battery - almost all the products of decay and exchange evaporate, but due to the duration of the process, rotting or fermentation of the raw materials is possible.
  5. Freezing in the freezer - the result is similar to the natural drying, but eliminates rotting or fermentation of the product.
  6. Scalding with boiling water and infusion for 1-2 hours. After that, the infusion is drained, and the limp substance is used, in which growth stimulants remain, but most of the mineral components are lost.
  7. Sawing in the fresh air under direct sunlight - the whole mineral complex, growth stimulants are preserved, and the harmful organic matter disappears.

The benefits and harm of banana dressing

Experienced gardeners often use banana peel flower dressing, as they are confident in its effectiveness. The advantages of this fertilizer lots of:

  • The peel of an exotic fruit contains a large amount of potassium and phosphorus, necessary for flowering plants.
  • Infusion easily defeats aphids and other pests.
  • Magnesium contained in the skin is indispensable for plants with a lack of sunlight. They need to be fertilized regularly.

This fertilizer has its own minuses:

  • If you put the peel directly on the soil, the process of decay and the development of mold will begin, which causes an unpleasant smell.
  • Sweet fertilizer for banana peel flowers can be a breeding ground for ants.
  • The infusion of banana skins smells unpleasant.

Contraindications and precautions

Even with all the advantages of a banana peel fertilizer, you need to use it wisely:

  • Do not abuse fertilizing, otherwise the plants will turn yellow.
  • Before cooking the fertilizer, the banana should be thoroughly washed, as chemicals are often used to extend the shelf life.
  • Buy an exotic fruit is best in a proven place. So you can protect yourself from the use of a product containing pesticides, as well as protect indoor plants from the harmful effects of toxic substances.

If the florist decides to use banana peels as a fertilizer for indoor plants, he should take into account all the advantages and disadvantages of this method and adhere to the recommendations and norms.

Banana skins as fertilizer

The fact that banana skins are ideal for feeding plants can be understood immediately by examining the composition of this fruit. Bananas contain large amounts of potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. This complex of vitamins and minerals is very useful not only for the human body, but also for the growth, flowering and fruiting of plants. And as you know, the skin of vegetables and fruits often has an even richer and richer composition of microelements than the fruit itself. This was a prerequisite to the use of banana peel as a fertilizer for indoor, outdoor and greenhouse plants many years ago. When all these organic elements decompose in the soil, they are well nourished by the plants, contributing to violent growth and flowering.

Shredded Fresh Peel

This is the easiest, but very effective way of feeding seedlings and seedlings. Fresh peel is cut into pieces and buried in the hole under the root of the plant. It is interesting that after ten days nothing remains of the skins - they completely decompose, giving themselves to the plant. After such a reception, even sickly and painful greens begin to actively grow, acquire a rich color and healthy appearance.

Beneficial features

When you eat another banana, do not rush to throw his skin in the trash. Banana peel will be an excellent fertilizer for your indoor flowers. The fact is that bananas are very rich in potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, zinc, calcium. This rich mineral composition with a large amount of dietary fiber can beneficially affect the human body.

After eating bananas, the activity of the cardiovascular and nervous systems is normalized, the water-salt balance is restored, and blood formation in the body improves. Dietary fiber can improve activity of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as contribute to the improvement of the digestive process.

In addition, the fruits have a great taste. Probably, few people know that the main part of the minerals of this fruit is concentrated in the peel. Therefore, the mineral components will be excellent as a nutrient medium for seedlings and flowers. But here it is necessary to know how to properly benefit from this.

Pay attention also to the fact that the useful composition of banana peel can compete with commercial fertilizers on a natural basis, for example, with humates.

Banana fertilizers - harm

It is also worth paying attention to the fact that natural organic based on a banana peel is not only beneficial, but can also cause some harm to plants. The fact is that quite often during the cultivation of fruit used pesticides. In particular, hexachlorocyclohexane also belongs to such pesticides. With this pesticide, fruits are processed before shipment in order to preserve the presentation of bananas for as long as possible. This substance is considered to be a carcinogen, it has a cumulative effect.

The carcinogen is able to accumulate in the soil, is absorbed by the root system, falling into the fruit. The human body is also able to accumulate this poison.

In addition, ethylene is processed to accelerate ripening. Ethylene is able to negatively affect the hormonal background of the human body. Collectors, as a rule, wash the milky juice from banana bunches, soak them in ammonium sulphate.

No matter how strange it may sound, but such a chemical filling does not get into the fruit itself, since the banana shell plays the role of a kind of biofilter. Due to this, harmful substances accumulate in the shell.. That is why after buying fruit wash them thoroughly with hot soapy water. This action can protect you from the chemistry and microorganisms deposited on the skin.

It is also important to note that white fibers also accumulate harmful substances, so they must be removed.

But how to use a potentially dangerous fruit to fertilize plants? To do this, it is recommended to buy certified bananas. Therefore, purchase them in large supermarkets. As a rule, the service of such supermarkets requests from suppliers the obligatory presence of a certificate of conformity. This can save you and your plants from possible microorganisms and chemistry.

Recycling banana skins

Before you create a nutritional supplement, the banana shell must be prepared. Recycling involves the following techniques:

  • dry and fry
  • brew
  • insist,
  • grind
  • to freeze,
  • create compost.

It is also allowed to use unprocessed banana skins. But let's take a closer look at each of the above-described methods of preparing a useful top dressing for indoor plants and seedlings.

The manufacture of powder and methods of its use

The highest quality top dressing for indoor plants and seedlings can be obtained from powder prepared on the basis of a fruit shell. For its preparation use the peel, dried on the battery, the sun, in the oven or on the dryer for vegetables and fruits. Please note that for the manufacture of top dressing at home it is necessary to choose only green or yellow skins. There should be no stains on the banana skin.

This is due to the fact that at the beginning of the decomposition, it is allowed to colonize the product with pathogenic flora, for example, bacterial organisms or fungal spores. As a result of this, a made dressing will do more harm than good..

So, when bananas are eaten, take away whole beautiful skins. In winter, the banana peel can be dried on batteries. But before that, put a newspaper on the battery. The peel is recommended to be laid on the battery with the inside facing up. Cover the skins with gauze on top to protect them from the invasion of midges and flies. In summer, the banana skin can be dried in direct sunlight, spreading it out on the balcony or outdoors.

There are also special dryers for vegetables and fruits, which are equipped with pallets. On pallets products are evenly displayed. It is recommended to cut the skin. The drying process, as a rule, takes about 8 hours on a special dryer. In the oven, drying is carried out according to a similar method, it only takes a little longer. Be sure to ensure that the peel does not stick to the baking tray. To do this, lay a layer of foil or baking paper on it.

When the peel is ready, it will turn brown and black. Shells will be very fragile. They should be allowed to cool completely.and then grind to a state of sand. It is recommended to store banana powder in glass containers with a tight lid or in a special food container. There are several ways to use banana powder:

  • Add the powder to the soil during transplanting or planting.
  • Use the powder as a semi-finished product for the preparation of other types of fertilizers.
  • Use the powder to mulch the soil.

If you want to please your houseplants, put one teaspoon of ready-made banana powder to the surface of the soil, and then carefully water the plants. Before planting in a greenhouse or in open ground, you must put one tablespoon of the finished powder in the wells, and then place the seedlings in them, carefully pour. After that, you can forget about dressing with potassium for a whole month. Such is the frequency of making banana feeding. During mulching powder is poured in the root zone of the plant. It can be used to feed a variety of crops.

To enhance the effectiveness of the powder, it is recommended to add crushed dried grape branches to it. They also contain many nutrients and elements that are necessary for your houseplants. Dried skins can not even be crushed, but simply broken into small pieces. During transplantation of indoor plants, these pieces are placed between the drainage layer and the substrate. Over time, they begin to decompose soil microorganisms, while improving the composition of the soil and gently nourish the culture.

Infusions and decoctions of banana shell

Potassium, which is found in bananas, is a very important element for all plant species. He is able to positively affect the health of the culture, while increasing the duration of flowering. That is why care must be taken when using potassium-rich organics for fruit crops.. This is due to, that prolonged flowering and the formation of ovaries can weaken the bushes and badly affects the growth of fruits. The most responsive to fertilizing with a large amount of potassium are: cyclamen, begonias and saintpaulias.

Perennials such fertilizing fertilized no more than twice in one season. If it is wrong to use such top dressing, then the plants will begin to direct all their forces towards abundant flowering. And for perennial perennial strength is not enough. In the future, this leads to the death of the plant.

So, let's consider the basic recipes for the manufacture of useful food in the form of decoctions and infusions.

For making decoction of dried banana skins You will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 liter of hot boiled water
  • 2 tablespoons of banana powder.

Water needs to be cooled to 50 degrees, and then dissolve the banana powder in it, mix thoroughly. Use the solution is necessary only when it is completely cooled.

For the manufacture of decoction of fresh fruit shells The following ingredients are required:

  • peel from 3 bananas,
  • 1 liter of boiled water.

Skins need to grind and pour boiling water, let it brew for 4 hours. Broth strain. It can be stored for two weeks.

For the preparation of infusion for indoor plants You will need the following ingredients:

  • chilled boiled water
  • one banana skin.

Fruit shell must be thoroughly chopped and put in a jar, pour water. Let it stand for a day in a dark place. After that, the liquid must be drained and topped up with water to a volume of 1 liter.

To prepare the infusion for greenhouse plants and seedlings, the technology is practically no different from the one described above. The shells of three or four bananas are stacked in a three-liter jar, filled with water and infused for about 4 days.

How to use fresh banana peel

If you decide to pamper your indoor plants with a healthy feed, you can use fresh banana peel. It should be remembered that the shells should not be any spots, it should be mature. It is recommended to apply such top dressing no more than twice a month. To keep the product its beneficial properties, the peel can be frozen.

Put the crushed banana peels in a plastic container and put them in the freezer. For one winter, you can collect the required number of skins to make at least a useful fertilizer as a banana compost.

A simpler way to apply the peel is to use it fresh. To do this, the shell must be cut into small pieces and prikopat in the soil. No need to lay the peel on the surface of the soil, as it will begin to rot and attract insects. The peel must be deepened a couple of centimeters into the ground. After some time, the cleaning will be filled with soil microorganisms, thereby creating a nutrient medium in the root zone of the plant. After that, the composition of the soil mass is significantly improved.

You can also prepare a special cocktail from the fruit shell. For this, banana skins need to grind. in a blender or kitchen processor to the consistency of mashed potatoes. After this is added a glass of cold boiled water, the mixture is thoroughly mixed. The resulting cocktail should be placed on the soil surface at the rate of two tablespoons per pot. Application of such fertilizer should be made no more than once a month.

Fertilizer from banana skins for seedlings

During the period of active growth, seedlings of vegetables need a lot of strength to form peduncles. For this seedlings are needed: magnesium, calcium and potassium. All these elements can be obtained from banana shells. In addition to the above recipes decoctions and tinctures, gardeners use and banana mulch. But before that, you must make sure that there are no anthills on the site. The fact is that ants are very fond of sugar and can destroy seedlings.

As the peel decomposes slowly, vegetables will receive all the useful elements in small portions.

Peel can also be laid in the landing boxes. To do this, it should be finely cut with scissors. First, a layer of drainage is laid in the boxes, then some soil, and only then a layer of fruit sliced, which is again filled with soil from above.

It is important to note that it is necessary to avoid direct contact of the root system with top dressing, therefore, as mentioned earlier, a layer of soil should follow the layer of the banana shell.

Banana Peel Combination Recipes

And now let's look at some popular recipes that have garnered positive feedback.

Nutritious tea. For the manufacture of nutritious tea will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of leafy green tea,
  • 2 tablespoons of banana powder,
  • 1 liter of boiling water.

Banana powder should be mixed with brewing green tea, pour it all with hot water. Let it brew until cool. It is necessary to water plants only 50 ml of nutritious tea. You will see how frail flowers are gaining a green mass and lay flower stalks. The resulting tea must be made with watering once a week. Especially fond of such tea are roses, violets, ferns and begonias.

Complex with sugar and citrus. To prepare such an elixir of life for sick and green plants, you will need the following ingredients:

  • equal amount of banana peel and citrus peel,
  • boiled water,
  • one tablespoon of sugar.

Fruit waste must be thoroughly minced in a food processor before obtaining mashed potatoes. The resulting mixture of three-liter jar must be filled to a third. Add sugar to the jar with the mixture and pour boiled water at room temperature. The jar with the mixture is removed in a dark and warm room for 3 weeks. Every three days the infusion is stirred. After 3 weeks, the solution must be filtered and refrigerated. Fertilizer should be applied during watering, after diluting it with water in the ratio of 1:20. Infusion is applied no more than once a month.

Compost for bulbous plants. To make a banana compost you will need the following ingredients:

  • chopped banana peel from 10 fruits,
  • one bucket of garden soil,
  • drug "Baikal".

All ingredients must be thoroughly mixed in a bucket. The preparation "Baikal" is diluted according to the instructions, they need to flavor the future compost. The container with the mixture is removed in a dark place, stirring occasionally.

After a month, the procedure can be repeated by adding more banana fruit shells to it. Compost will be ready for use in two months.

It is ideal for bulbous crops.. The finished compost must be mixed with the soil for transplanting bulbous plants. This applies to garden and indoor flowers.

Banana peel as a fertilizer for the garden - an excellent tool.

Dried fertilizer

This is one of the most convenient and safe types of fertilizer for indoor plants, which can be made from banana peel. Of course, it can be used both for street and for greenhouse green pets. Dried tops are crushed in a mortar or ground with a coffee grinder, then sprinkled with this powder on the ground in a pot or on a garden bed, watered and after a while admire the result - a flowering and vibrant healthy plant. There are several ways to dry banana peels:

The most popular method is drying the skins in an oven or electric dryer. To do this, they are placed in the oven for several hours at a minimum temperature. The plant dries out, however, some of the nutrients evaporate with moisture, and harmful chemicals may remain in the skin.

Drying on the windowsill or on the battery. It is also quite an effective method, the main thing is to cover insect skin with gauze. The downside is that it is a fairly long process, and for all the time, raw materials can rot in the sun.

  • To wither banana peels in the sun in a suspended state in the fresh air. For this, banana peels are strung on a string and hung in a sunny, well-ventilated place, like mushrooms. Thus, the whole complex of vitamins and minerals remains in the composition, and there is no trace of harmful impurities.
  • Liquid feeding

This method is universal and well suited for all types of plants.

Before you prepare a liquid dressing, the banana peel must be washed, cut into small strips and put in a three-liter jar.

Pour water at room temperature and leave for 2-3 days.

After that, the infusion is filtered, diluted one-to-one with water and watered, irrigated, feed the soil, plants, seeds and seedlings.

This method is also effective in fighting tla. These insects do not tolerate potassium and its surplus, so that by watering flowers with such a banana extract, you will forever keep them away from their pots and flower beds.

There is also a simple banana-skinned cocktail-fertilizer recipe.

    • The skin of one banana.
    • Glass of water.
Beat all this in a blender and, without straining, add once a month a couple of spoons to the ground. This is a kind of natural growth and flowering stimulant. It will be useful when transplanting plants from one place to another.

Another recipe for liquid feeding - spray. This fertilizer is based on banana leaves.

    • Skins 4 bananas.
    • Powdered eggshell - 2 tsp. with a slide.
    • Water - 1 l.
    • Magnesium sulfate - 20 g Skins must be dried and slaughtered to a state of powder. Mix with eggshell and magnesium sulfate, cover with water and shake well. You can spray your plants with such a tool no more than once a week; fertilizer should be stored in a refrigerator (heated to a temperature of 20-22 degrees before use).

    Banana Skin Compost

In order to prepare banana compost, you just need to add a few finely chopped banana skins to a good black greasy ground, pour it all on any sourdough, for example, “Baikal”, and mix well. After a month of infusing such compost, you can fertilize the beds, bushes and trees.

Freezing is one of the ways to remove all harmful chemicals from banana skins, as well as to keep them fresh so that you can feed your garden and greenhouses with fresh fertilizer at any time. Just get a tray for banana skins in your freezer and as they arrive, instead of throwing it away, throw fresh waste into it.
